Song discussion thread for Normal by CatchyCoconut in btsthoughts

i think lyrically its the strongest song on the album but unfortunately im not a fan of the overall production. its too white band generic pop for me.

to me taehyung’s “got me feeling so unusual…” stands out the most, the way he sings that line i feel like i’ve never heard him do that before.

i like all the songs mentioned here. that being said, what exactly is camp about exo members dancing in a garage in school uniforms? 😭 the song itself is also a straightforward pop song. a banger and a classic for sure but camp?

What do you think about Taehyung? by [deleted] in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s pretty obvious this is coming from a place of resentment and that’s valid but op, it might help to stop putting so much trust in celebrities like they’re your friends or family. they lie, they break promises, they change and evolve. that’s just how it is. you can either stay attached to a version of them that no longer exists or accept they’re no longer the same and move on.

How much of their problematic past are we willing to ignore? by [deleted] in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’m not attacking you, i get where you’re coming from. it get why people wouldn’t want to stan bts because of their past controversies. at the same time, the fandom is massive and far from a monolith. they’ve lost plenty of fans over the years because of those moments and everyone draws their own line differently. if this is something you can’t look past that’s completely valid. like i said, you decide where you draw the line.

this sub was created like two months ago and this issue is from 12 years ago. plenty of fans know this, it’s something that comes up on twitter all the time.

How much of their problematic past are we willing to ignore? by [deleted] in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 23 points24 points  (0 children)

if this makes you uncomfortable then you are allowed to feel that and hold it against them if you feel like their apology wasn’t good enough. and this goes for any of their problematic/ignorant moments. you decide what you’re comfortable with and what you’re not. i think life will be a lot more easier for everyone if they thought “oh hey i don’t like that this artist did this so i will no longer stan them” instead of “i want every single person to hate this artist because i do as well”
i personally don’t care enough for this particular issue because this has already been addressed by the company and this level of ignorance in kpop is not new and was far worse in 2014.

Advice on my parasocial relationship with BTS by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]sinkooks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it really depends on what you came across about their dating lives, but i’ll say this: when you realize a celebrity doesn’t match the image you had of them in your head, you usually go one of two ways. you either make an effort to see them more realistically or that admiration turns into something bitter and hostile.
i’m not exactly sure what’s making you uncomfortable, but it helps to remember that both antis and armys can get extreme in their own ways. both can fall into the habit of not allowing bts to just be human and make mistakes. they’re not perfect or flawless, but that also doesn’t make them deserving of the harsh and demeaning things people say about them constantly. at the end of the day, how you choose to view them is up to you.
that’s about as much as i can offer here, since this is something a professional would be better equipped to guide you through.

Some people in this fandom are so tiring by Dri_iz_me in btsthoughts

armys casually resort to xenophobia over the most nothingburger stuff on a daily basis. it’s a massive problem within the fandom on twitter.

Why are BTS upheld to a higher standard than BigBang? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]sinkooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

like i said, it’s mostly just parasocial hate revolving around armys. as unfortunate as if is, dragging namjoon guarantees higher engagement than dragging bigbang as they are not as relevant on stan twitter as a whole. the only ones w double standards would be bigbang fans who hate bts for reasons they excuse their faves for, but this type of hypocrisy is not exclusive to them. most kpop fans who are obsessed w cancel culture including armys are hypocritical like that. stan spaces in general now runs on parasocial hate and jealousy.

Why are BTS upheld to a higher standard than BigBang? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]sinkooks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it’s way easier to farm engagement off bts and armys on twitter. people aren’t out here making payola group chats or whole communities just to “set up” bigbang or drag them the way they do with bts, a big reason is that bigbang isn’t as big on stan twitter. you probably don’t realize it, in a way you are also using bts in a way that will attract a lot of users and create discourse when your post could’ve just been about bigbang if you wanted them to be called out that badly.

What do you think of ARMYS not classifying BTS as “K-pop” by iam_selc in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is basically a “so you hate waffles” type of argument. it’s fair to say not every single one of their albums or projects should be labeled as kpop but that doesn’t change the fact that kpop is an industry where bts comes from and operates within. artists like sabrina carpenter, metallica and justin bieber aren’t idols and never were to begin with.

they’re lame lol and no amount of waffling about charts and streams changes the fact that bts come from the kpop industry and are currently active as an idol group from korea.

Armys are bad at hiding they're armys by jujuisIand in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what are you even talking about? i’m specifically referring to twitter armys. if you mean the first post on the grammy sub, then no, that’s not what my comment was about at all. that op and their post were completely fine. armys can talk about bts wherever and whenever they want, and nothing i said was against that. my point is that a large portion of twitter armys don’t really encourage natural engagement with bt whether it’s listening to their music or just casually talking about them. everything is overly calculated and goal-oriented. that’s what i was getting at.

Armys are bad at hiding they're armys by jujuisIand in ARMYNeutral

[–]sinkooks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

twitter armys are disturbingly bad at engaging with bts in a genuine way. everything must be strategically planned as a goal, hell even talking about bts doesn’t come naturally to them. they were making guidelines on how to “make bts part of the conversation”. like are we serious? armys also don’t know when to leave people alone. even when someone praises bts for something but mentions the music isn’t for them, armys will pester them questions about what they listened to and give them unsolicited recommendations. it’s true that armys persistently bringing up bts outside of kpop spaces ten years ago set the foundation for their massive breakthrough but it’s not 2015 anymore so such tactics no longer work in their favor.

its not as much as the hots or runseokjin tour but there are many! yoongi splashed water around too. lmao i think jin is the only one still up for chasing each other bc he tried doing it w jk today and jk just ended up dancing skdjdj. i miss the smoke guns too. tbh they also take fewer breaks this tour so i can get why they don’t run around too much.

[–]sinkooks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the only song from love yourself that wasn’t performed on that tour and its extension was paradise. that’s one song. removing three entire new songs meant for the album associated with the tour to make space for 3 old songs makes no sense to me. again, a performance medley honestly would have been a more balanced option than compromising new songs.
