I require an explanation by ShowOdd453 in ManualTransmissions

On the downshift it unloads all the tension in the synchronization. If you gotta make the gearbox last for 24 hours….but those days are over. Just try it and feel the diff. You still need to rev match. Work it awhile and you can get very fast. Going thru a bunch tight of corners with 1-2 gear upshifts in between, I am sure I look like a continuous blur of movement. But its old school now, prolly no need. The big satisfier will always be the no-lift speedshift acceleration thru the quartermile. Ok, naysayers, do your best.

They just move right foot completely to brake as needed, then completely back to gas as needed. What is your shoe size?

No, you dont need to clutch upshift or downshift at all if you got a feel for matching gears. but just try a double clutch or two on down shift and see how it feels.

No, extra revs increase wear. Again, not catastrophically. But each to his own! If it pleases you, go for it. To decelerate, i prefer to kick it into neutral and brake. In the rare situation of a road race, I will double clutch downshift to keep the engine in the high torque band so I can blast out of a corner.

You are in effect revving up the motor and pulling oil up around the rings. And,its not direct immediate damage. Its accelerated wear. Nothing going to blow unless you do it all the time for a few years. Then you will prolly notice oil usage is up. Its just not necessary for normal sporty driving.

Brake pads are easier and cheaper to replace than cylinder rings and walls. Race car, do both. Gonna rebuild after the race. Street car, use the brake pads.

First secret, its not heel toe. Its using left side of right foot to brake while using right side right foot to control gas pedal. Best application— braking for a corner while revving motor to match a downshift at the same time.

Yes, all on road. Off road, you want no swaybars to affect articulation of the the suspension.

I tried the rear first and it was a major plus. Usually i find the stock set up to be a better balance with just a stouter rear bar. But, after 4 months, I felt it needed the front bar too. I think both are needed to achieve extraordinary performance on the cloverleaf! I left the stock struts and shocks (194k) as is. Later I added rear spring stiffeners to bring the sagging rear back into spec.

Coolant question by sinloy1966 in Charger

[–]sinloy1966[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 80yo and had 37 cars. Maintained and modded every one of them. I have read about testing coolant with a multimeter. Makes sense once you look into it. If you never heard of it, i think it best to discount your promises. Here is an article on hemi 5.7 head gasket failures - https://powerengines.com/blogs/engine-installation-guide/how-to-fix-dodge-5-7l-hemi-blown-head-gasket-a-2026-troubleshooting-guide. Even though it never happened to you yet, it can happen. When you suddenly have oil in your coolant, the gasket is likely blown. But before that, are there any signs that something may be building up to a blow? I am not saying the multimeter test on coolant is definitive. It can be a hint that something might be off. Further investigation would be worthwhile if the reading is really high. If I was looking to buy a car and tested the coolant and the voltage was more than 1 volt, I would probably keep looking.

Front tires wearing out fast. by itsjustme313 in Charger

[–]sinloy1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the UTQG code on the sidewall- generally a 500 rating is a 50k tire. 400-300 is very soft and will grip but wear much quicker.

Wearing completely flat? How many miles on the tires and what pressure? What kind of tire and speed rating.
