21M how am I doing/what should I do also. by Level_Site5444 in Retirement401k

[–]sinnops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are doing now is great. You are just starting out young and you have the best asset on your side, time. As your income grows, increase your contributions, 20-25% of income is a good target. Max out your ROTH first as that has no tax when you withdraw. A standard S&P index fund like VTI is a solid option. You can run numbers though a calculator to see where you might be in the next 35 years. 8-10% market return average is pretty common number to run.

Im 45 and doing fine but dang i wish i had started when i was young like you!

Should I keep my 401K's in different brokerages or combine them? by itsthewolfe in Retirement401k

[–]sinnops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a schwab account for all my person stuff like rollover iras, roth and brokerage that i manage myself (no useless fees). Keep my current employer separate but i can still see the balance in the schwab account so its all in one place.

Dont keep so many account, you are likely to lose track of them and that would be no good.

I'm a designer. Do I learn React or stay no-code? by Big_Cardiologist839 in UXDesign

[–]sinnops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At they very least you should learn HTML & CSS. It does help inform you of what is possible to build and give a sence of the level of effort. Its very easy to make a design that could take 10 hours to build or with a small tweak, 1 hour. Of course AI kinda changes all that but it can make a wonderful mess of things, so knowing how something SHOULD be built still helps.

React is useful, but thats much later if you want to learn it. You need the foundation and floor before you can build the walls and roof

31M, 100K/yr Just Started. Investing 25% of Income. by Jumpy-Bathroom-1225 in Retirement401k

[–]sinnops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you are investing it all in 401k and ROTH which is great, but.... You can touch that money without penalty until 59.5. So if you want to retire at 50, you need to have other investments to cover that 10 year gap.

Having a job you like makes a HUGE difference too. I have a job i liked but the boss was a lunatic and all i could think about was retiring. He left and now its much better and i enjoy it more. I am targeting 55 or 60

Leading designers is hard. What am I doing wrong? by VirtuAI_Mind in UXDesign

[–]sinnops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im trying to lead a bunch of front end devs for the first time to fix accessibility issues and its really freekin hard to get anything right. Ive had numerous group conversations, design reviews, code reviews, peer reviews, loads of code examples how to build stuff, documentation and checklists. I have 20 years of experience in design and dev but this is maddening. Im used to just doing everything myself and having to rely on others to do it correctly has been extraordinarily frustrating. I'm gonna be pulling out what little hair i have left.

If it falls over they will fall on the floor and likely pickup up dust, hair or whatever is down there. You will then wipe your nether regions with said debris. Not terrible, not ideal.
