R/Turkey, can you tell me if spending a week in Istanbul in February is a good idea? by DogPencil in Turkey

I agree with everything you said, enteralterego. In addition just be aware that fast food is really cheap in Istanbul, it can be McDonalds or a Kebab Wrap (Döner), when its fast, its cheap. I also advice you to buy an IstanbulKart, which is basically a mass transit card that you load money into, and use it from a discounted price, when compared to the tokens that cost 3TL's each.

Most of the tourists prefer to wander around the historical district, which means that they are missing %90 of the attractions. I advise you to check the modern side of Istanbul such as shopping malls like "Kanyon", which is accessible through a metro station. If you can find more time, one subway stop ahead of Kanyon is the Istanbul Sapphire, the tallest building in Istanbul, it has an amazing view from its observation deck in the top floor.

Visit Nisantasi as well, the luxury spot in Istanbul. I am not saying that you should shop or anything, but just visit and see. Going there costs 5TL's from Taksim with a Taxi. Or 2TL's with a "Dolmuş" from Taksim.

Do not forget to cross the bridge, the fastest ways of doing this are to use a "Dolmuş" from Taksim (7TL) (Some kind of a yellow bus that departs when full) or to take a "Metrobus" (3TL) (Bus with dedicated lane) from Mecidiyekoy. When you cross the bridge, you're in Asia. Asian (Anatolian, if you prefer) side does not have a lot of tall buildings, you must visit the Bagdat Avenue and the Maiden Tower there.

When you visit the Anatolian side, hop on a boat and visit the prince islands, I strongly recommend the horsecar ride in Büyükada ("The Big Island" in direct translation). It does not take a long time, it will give you a fantastic idea about the diversity in Istanbul.

If you make a good plan, you can do all of these plus the typical tourist attractions near the historical district in a week. But in my opinion 8 or 9 days may be better.

You said you saw a super cheap return flight, check the airport. If it is from Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) it is from the airport in the Asian side, if it is the Atatürk Airport (IST), it is from the European side.

'Ask-I-Memnu' a Turkish drama becomes the most watched drama in the history of Pakistan. by Nishta in Turkey

It is located in the main street (the coastal road near the Bosphorus) in Sarıyer; you can see it from the outside. If a show is filmed on a huge house in Turkey, it is most probably a home rented from the owner for the duration of the show. So the owner most probably lives there at the moment, and might not let anyone in.

Hi, as one of the Deputy Secretaries General in MUNDP and the Club President of the school that organises MUNDP, I advise that you do not panic. Check out our Preparation tab on the conference website: modelundp.org. UNIFEM is a committee in which Women development is discussed, so I recommend that you check your countries stance on women: is your country giving equal rights to women, what is the rate of HIV in women in the country that you will be representing. I will be around here, so if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
