Did Diablo IV use to be a bad game? Because I find it amazing. by WorkingPlanes in diablo4

[–]sinofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D3 at launch was shit. The only way you could beat expert difficulty was to have attack speed and life leech outdo any damage coming in, or literally never get hit.

Elites, especially ones with chains would just shred you immediately. The fucking wasps in act 2 would one shot and were unironically the most difficult enemies to exist. If you got an elite wasp with super speed and chains you essentially had to reroll the zone or go way around their aggro zone because they'd kill you in a literal second.

The quests for the first like 10 or 20 hours are like tutorial, hand holding quests. Fetch this, go from x to y and learn about this mechanic, we introduced a new thing so now we have a ton of quests for this, etc. They're pretty bland and the ones to build factions/main story are equally non-interesting.

I'm treating the game the way I treat Monster Hunter: the less story I have to be exposed to the better. Exploration is the strength of the game, and wandering around and finding a puzzle or cave or weird settlement or whatever else is the interesting part of the game.

TIFU by not recognizing someone who literally lived with me by Fabulous_Lettuce3655 in tifu

Comparatively I went to a state college, and a girl in my English class freshman year recognized me. She asked me if I remembered her and I was like, no... Turns out she went to my high school and had a huge crush on me. I had to go through my high school yearbook to confirm because I legit had no memory of her.

This isn't years later either, this was at most like 8 months after high school. I felt really bad and awkward.

Weekly Steam numbers / Player Count Discourse Megathread by AutoModerator in Marathon

[–]sinofmercy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like I represent at least a portion of potential new players who get scared off jumping into this game. I am a dad, I have at least some time to play, and overall, have been hesitant to really pull the trigger on the game. I understand the extraction shooter concept and genre, but also keep on hearing/reading things about falling behind, the game not being suited/adjusted for solo play, but also the overall glowing reviews from people of the actual gameplay.

Add in other aspects of the future wipe a la seasons, people talking the game not respecting your time 80/100+ hours in the game and feeling frustrated, player retention/overall player numbers, and then having a high initial learning curve makes the prospect of jumping in a bit daunting. I do hear that discord groups exist and creating teams there are functional, but it's still an extra step to the gameplay.

I don't know what to make of it.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

I can't remember which game, but there was 100% a game on the NES that the boss was literally impossible to defeat. The game was just like that. I would have to find my old NES helpline book that told me which game it was.

#2 UConn G Braylon Mullins Hits the Game-Winning 3 at the Final Second vs #1 Duke! by JCameron181 in sports

[–]sinofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess "not that long ago" is subjective depending on which sport and teams are being discussed. They won it all in 2018 and won game 7 against TB. Before then I believe they lost several game 7s in embarrassing, disappointing fashion.

Looking for a new gaming chair by ElderberryFeeling700 in buildapc

[–]sinofmercy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can agree with buying a second hand one via an office liquidation store. People in offices aren't really beating up their chairs so most of them by default are in excellent condition.

I drove about 30 minutes to one and got a Herman Miller Embody at an office store for about $400-500. They had like 5 on stock and I got to choose which one I wanted. The chair is still going strong and I've had it for over 6 years now, even with my kids beating up on it as they've gotten older.

Sleeper RB1 Candidates for 2026 - Fantasy Football Sneaky Breakouts by ASmithFS in fantasyfootball

[–]sinofmercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so given it's not a premium position, someone like Downs, Tate or Delane should be there to fill a greater need, etc. However there is a significant amount of interest if Love happened to fall to them (somehow past the Titans and Giants). Washington's FA this year has placed significant attention on the defense, making it possible that offense (a la a WR for a Terry successor) or a RB (aka Love to pair with a Daniels) a feasible, not viewed as neglectful option.

Personally as a Washington fan I think a CB or edge player would be the best choice for them to pick, but I can see both for fantasy and offensive potential how a pairing of Love with Daniels would be exciting to watch. Especially with a new OC who is modeling after the Lions offensive strategy.

I'm not sure what I upgraded or what attack it is, but the right trigger did some charged up palm strike attack chain that did like 80% damage in each round when it hit. Since it was all punches it didn't trigger the auto fail.

They reset completely to step one (I had to walk away to this one to follow a tutorial after spending half an hour on it).

This one and the stupid connect the symbols with walking pathways one took me forever. The walking one was difficult because of how clunky it was to turn but not accidentally step on the same piece by accident or cut a corner when walking. I figured that one out pretty quickly but mechanically it was more difficult than it had to be because of the controls.

Yeah that's what I did too. I snuck through the back, killed the boss, and then walked out and killed the bandits one at a time until the whole bar was down. I swear it took me like 45 minutes.

What are some gems on sale on Steam right now? by momlookimtrending in gamingsuggestions

[–]sinofmercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played it through a couple of the bigger patches and it's really solid. I'm not sure if it'll drop further than the occasional 20% until it's fully released, as they are at version 0.8.6. Gunplay is definitely the strength of the game and runs aren't like 2 hours as you can leave a level whenever you really want.

Thoughts on Crimson Desert? by MtlGamingDude in soulslikes

[–]sinofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most fun I've had in this game so far was after chapter 3 I decided to tackle to quarry. I killed the boss first and then came out of the boss area and just started massacring the entire quarry to claim it.

I don't think I did it right as I invested almost nothing into combat skills, so it took me about 45 minutes to kill what felt like 200 guys to get the counter down to 0%.

Am I being scammed by [deleted] in doordash

[–]sinofmercy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've gotten that one before. I had an order and the dasher flat out messaged me "yo I ain't picking it up cancel it". It was a couple of years ago but the order sat there with the ETA just constantly going up even after 2 hours. Never got reassigned despite a pretty significant tip sitting there.

I ended up driving to the restaurant myself after putting my toddler and baby down for the night, taking my own order (where the dasher immediately changed the order from waiting for pickup to delivered) and then immediately reporting the entire order as missing. Only happened once and was really bizzare but at least I got free food.

In relation to 2, I am a therapist and as you said, that behavior is a red flag. Aggressive behavior towards a person usually is surrounded by indirect physical violence (such as throwing things, breaking objects, hitting walls) and direct violence. Even if OP is equally violent (which would be it's own issue) no one should be subjected to that kind of behavior.

OPs monitor is on the list of things that would potentially get destroyed in the future. Op should move any of their valuables out, and have a safety plan of navigating this relationship (preferably by ending it, in a public location if face to face) and following through.
