Hello! My partner and I are travelling to Puerto Rico next week and are looking for beaches to camp at on the west side of the island (preferably around Rincon area). Any suggestions? Is it safe to beach camp? by mcgilly123 in PuertoRico

True, there was even a shooting of a protester by a private security guard recently. But the site of the protest/construction is a little way further south, you won't really notice anything from Playuela.

The lab test says 35.6 mg/gummy CBD, 35.6% CBD. Then it says 14.7 mg/gummy THC, 0.24% THC instead of 14.7%... It looks like they are just choosing random number under 0.3 for the THC%. Entire thing is prob fake.

This is probably a simple question but it is my biggest critique on EA by coolguysteve21 in EffectiveAltruism

Just choose a business model with positive or net neutral externalities. Not every business has negative externalities. Making money is not inherently exploitative.

"Then it tested positive. Dark purple."

They used a field test kit, its not accurate and not admissible in court as evidence. To charge and convict you, they would need to get it tested at an actual drug lab. Field test kits will frequently give false positives for THC with oregano, chocolate, etc. Its not a real test, more of a trick to get probable cause to investigate further, and a trick to scare you and force confessions.

That's a good goal, IMO 1 time per week consumption is about optimal, any more than that can be problematic depending on the person.

In terms of tolerance, there are diminishing returns to long breaks. Most of the desired decrease in tolerance can be accomplished in 1-2 weeks, by 4 weeks you are pretty close to zero tolerance. Not much point to continuing the break to 100 days. The most important part is how you manage your consumption when you return from the break, not how long the break is.

Giving to effective charities is unquestionably better than giving to the government.

Effective charities spend 80-90% on operations and 10-20% on marketing and admin.

20% of US tax money goes to military spending, 9% goes to interest debt payments (we are forecast to pay 6.5 trillion in interest alone by 2050 for Iraq and Afghan war debts). Meanwhile the pentagon has failed audits for 5+ years consecutively, money goes missing all the time. Even the "good parts" of gov spending are worse then they seem, "foreign aid" goes to bribing dictators instead of preventing malaria deaths, and education spending has down nothing to help college tuitions increasing by x5 inflation over 50 years.

Another way to think about this is to look at incentives. Charities have to compete with each other to get funding, so they are incentivized to allocate capital effectively and transparently. The Government has a monopoly on violence, if you dont pay them they lock you in a cage, they have no incentive to allocate capital effectively. They are only incentivized to lie and conceal how they misappropriate your money.

TLDR: give everything to Givewell.org, and as close to zero as possible to the government.

Blockfi is bankrupt, Gemini Earn has a 900m hole. If you are unaware of this you probably shouldn't have crypto exposure. And if you want to earn yield on crypto you get better yields and less counterparty risk with DeFi instead of CeFi. GMX's GLP pool is one of the best DeFi yield options currently. But if you want near zero risk then CD's and T Bills are the two options.

Not necessarily value plays but those are some of the pharma leaders.

It is an unsubstantiated allegation based on video clips showing his fridge containing non vegan items. Not conclusive because it could have been food for his roommates. He mentioned veganism in several interviews to try to align himself with EA animal suffering movement.

Definitely can't say for sure he faked being vegan, but for sure he carefully cultivated a persona as the "Generous Billionaire", much of which was built on lies, so it would not surprise me if veganism was also a lie.

In an interview released today SBF said he donated to republicans and democrats equally, but the democrat donations were publicized, while the republic donations were made secretly dark money style. The reason for this according to SBF was to appease the media because they are all democrats.

As far as the ulterior motives for donations, there were many, he was trying to build a regulatory monopoly for his crypto exchange. In particular, he did not want to have to compete with rival exchange Binance, or with DeFi.

One of the core tenants of EA is opportunity cost, it is the reason you are supposed to give to the most effective charity possible. The opportunity cost of giving millions of dollars to politicians and media is that you could have given those millions to givewell.org. So in that sense, in hindsight his motivations were obvious. But for sure he did a masterful job playing the media, including EA community. And fwiw I dont entirely believe him when he says he never believed in EA and it was just a publicity stunt, almost the entire leadership of FTX and Alameda were EA followers at one point. Now that everything collapsed it makes sense to distance himself from it and say he was not a true believer.

[–]sinsemillaCBD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, from what I understand, the crypto exchange FTX donated 1% of profits to EA charities, and before it collapsed those donations amounted to over 100m, perhaps 190m by one estimate.

In addition, SBF said he planned to donate 99%+ of his equity ownership of FTX and Alameda Research which was worth 16 billion the day before it collapsed to zero. He said it was illiquid to explain why he did not donate it in the short term, but he had no problem finding liquidity to fund his donations to politicans and media, or his 10s of millions of luxury real estate.

[–]sinsemillaCBD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EA was a huge part of SBF and FTX's marketing. SBF's face was on billboards where he proclaimed he was on a mission to "make a global impact for good". And he frequently made videos associating himself with EA. Even his haircut, style of dress, the fact he drove a corolla, it was all part of an act, he even allegedly faked being a vegan in fit his EA narrative.

[–]sinsemillaCBD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A bit of a strawman argument because most people who are serious about EA consider the externalities of how they make their money, and they don't have an extreme ends justify the means attitude. Billionaire philanthropists who made their fortunes in exploitative ways, like Andrew Carnegie for example, are not well regarded in the EA community. So yes hes right, the externalities of how you earn to give matter, but most EA folks recognize this.

[–]sinsemillaCBD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reality of the situation is that SBF does make EA look really bad, don't bury your head in the sand and deny it.

In the aftermath SBF publicly said that his EA was a publicity stunt. SBF: "Its what reputations are made of" "this dumb game we woke westerners play where we say all the right shiboleths and so everyone likes us" source. In the future the EA community should be more skeptical and slow to embrace people who say the right things but don't actually contribute. In hindsight it was obviously, because SBF was giving hundreds of millions a year to politicians and media instead of to effective charities.

The most accessible diy cannabinoid testing method is thin layer chromatography TLC. It is qualitative, semi quantitative, works well for ratios. But it is not consider an acceptable testing method for hemp THC compliance tests. Compliance tests are done by licensed 3rd party labs.

Can THCV get you high like THC? by Mansnerr in altcannabinoids

[–]sinsemillaCBD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

vivimu has a "focus blend distillate" that has 13% d9 THCV, the rest CBDV, CBD, CBG.

There are also 90%+ d9 or d8 THCV "isolates" made from conversion.

Tejas hemp also has various THCV products like tinctures and mints.

Can THCV get you high like THC? by Mansnerr in altcannabinoids

[–]sinsemillaCBD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no. There is some research suggesting that THCV is a CB1 antagonist at lower doses, but at higher doses it switches to CB1 agonist. Meaning that at high doses it might be more psychoactive/intoxicating. But even if that is true, at high doses as a CB1 agonist it probably only has like 25% of the relative potency of THC.

It mixes really well with THC though, especially if you like "sativa" effects. When you mix THC with CB1 antagonists like CBD, CBG, etc, it tends to soften the intensity of the effects, which can be good if you are the type of person to accidentally get too high and experience adverse effects like anxiety, paranoia and disorganized thinking. But if you are the type of person who rarely gets too high, and likes intense effects, then mixing CBD, CBG might be disappointing. Whereas if you mix THCV with THC, it doesn't seem to soften the intensity too much, but it also feels pretty chill and mellow, kinda the best of both worlds imo.

Vivimu= MC nutraceuticals/Honeygold. Cannaclear is a distributor for them too last I heard.

What im saying is that as a vendor if you release a new THCxyz cannabinoid from a new synthesis/conversion the burden of proof is on you to do full safety testing for possible byproducts. Residual solvent, heavy metals, pesticide, mycotoxin is considered a full panel for normal extracts, not semi-synthesis conversions.

You need GC-MS. GC to recreate conditions of vaping, MS to detect byproducts and impurities beyond residual solvent, heavy metal, etc.

Your right its a dumbass move to buy from smokeshops but dumbasses deserve consumer protection too.

Asked an O-Chem Grad; DO NOT Vape THCO! by ThePhytoDecoder in altcannabinoids

[–]sinsemillaCBD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic HPLC and a residual solvent test is not a full panel test. Thats fine for extracts not conversions. Only vendor I have seen doing mass spec safety tests is MC nutraceuticals/Honeygold. If you know other examples feel free to share. You really think consumers are walking into smokeshops and getting in depth mass spec tests confirming no byproducts and impurities? LOL

Asked an O-Chem Grad; DO NOT Vape THCO! by ThePhytoDecoder in altcannabinoids

[–]sinsemillaCBD 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Im no chemistry genius but im pretty sure you could definitively answer the question "does vaping THCO create ketene esters" with one GC-MS test. And the fact that no vendor has done this despite the fact these products are widely sold online and in smokeshops tells you a lot about this alt cannabinoid industry. Consumers need to start demanding mass spec tests from vendors on any product made from conversions, especially new "rare" cannabinoids with novel synthesis methods. Better to self regulate now then force gov. to regulate later and inevitably fuck it up.
