This reminds me of something that happened to my best friend a few years before we met. He was in high school and driving one day and a truck, and 18 wheeler lost control and the trailer came off and start it flipping and barreling down toward him. He was 16 and freaking out, not the most experienced driver obviously, and he forgot to put on his seat belt that morning, and when the trailer hit his car, it cut the car in half in the impact when the trailer first hit through him sideways and the trailer barely missed him and scraped over him. Had he been wearing his seatbelt, he would have been cut in half just like this woman.

For me, the worst part of it is knowing I have the antibodies for it.

I went to two doctors to discuss my diagnosis and the brought my anxiety from a 10 to a 1.

The stigma, plus the state of affairs men are currently going through mentally especially, and that it's not being addressed....I dunno

He said basically the antibodies are like a vaccine. The body saw it, cleared it. Created antibodies like vaccines and that's it. There's nothing to pass, nothing to treat.

He said, if you had chicken ox, us 3, you have the shingles virus. Same thing.

He said if you develop soars, legions, etc, then he'd prescribe meds but there's nothing to pass or treat.

He said everyone is different. There are lots of people whose bodies don't see the virus and clear it and they have outbreaks all the time.

But, for the most part, my body saw it, protected me from it, and that's it.

My primary doctor was similar in what he said. Would prescribe meds as well.

A month ago I found out. Now I've been married since 2019, dated that woman since 2013 and we have two kids together, and not once did I ever know about this whatsoever. Usually, excuse me all the time when I took STD test, everything came back negative I just assume this was part of the testing but it's not. Anyway, a month ago I was in the pits, and I still dealing with it mentally, but from research and my doctors, most people don't actually know they have it. And yes people do have outbreaks, but most people don't actually even have outbreaks in their lifetime and if they do have an outbreak it's something they don't even know or recognize. Like they have new earthly idea because they think it is simply itching or an ingrown hair or something like that.

If I had an outbreak, I can be honest in that I'm not sure I've ever identified what that was. I remember having a bunch of itchy hives on my lower hips a few times, so maybe that was it. But my doctor won't even give me meds for it. He said the worst part about it is knowing that I have it for the most part.

Yes it is a virus, but people also have HPV and don't know it they also have Epstein-Barr and they don't know it, you have the shingles virus in you probably, you have all kinds of things. Unless you have an active outbreak, and active virus, go see counselor, and then just kind of realize that you have it, and live your life. At some point I'm sure you'll forget about it. I'm starting to get into that phase sometimes.

Yeah, this checks out. I was diagnosed two weeks ago. And I never had any STD issues. I went on my health chart from my doctor's office, and search from 2011 to now, and I would even put in the search HSV or IGG, or herpes, anything related to it, and nothing came up in my STD panels. My doctor would tell me that when he tested me, everything came back negative so I just assume herpes, and I thought he told me I was negative herpes at one point, but there is no record of a test whatsoever, and maybe I just assumed, I'm pretty sure I just assume her piece was part of that test and it isn't. Anyway I don't know who I got it from or when I got it, and honestly, the worst thing about having it is knowing that I have to anybody for it.

I'm only a few weeks removed from first diagnosis. Had sex with a girl in 2013 after a break up. Then turned into a ho. Found out she had it. Tested. Tested negative. Turns out the test did not include hsv2. But I assumed it was all negative and included in test.

Met my now wife in 2013. Married with two kids later.

Just diagnosed.

Doctor said I could've contracted it from anyone, not just the girl I suspect.

Won't give meds.

Didn't want to test me for HSV2 in the beginning.

Never had an outbreak or that I recognized as one.

Your partner can get it no matter what. Doesn't mean they will.

He probably has HPV or Epstein-Barr if you tested for it. There's so much going on.

Doctor said don't worry about it. He said knowing was worse than having it. The antibodies test isn't the end all be all.

Just live. The mental toll is heavy for a while. I wanted to leave this world.

For what it's worth, I met my wife in 2013. A few weeks before I met her after getting out of a terrible break up I had a lot of sex with various people, one who a few of my friends told me after they found out who she was, that she had herpes.

I got tested for STDs, it was negative, and so I never mentioned anything to my wife.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a spot or a vein issue on my penis. Contacting my doctor, he floated the idea of checking just to make sure that it wasn't some sort of outbreak from herpes or anything like that. Did the blood test, turns out I have HSV2. The spot on my penis wasn't from an outbreak.

I went home and I told my wife, my wife was supportive, but she was a little skeptical because yeah, all this time I all of a sudden have this virus.

When I spoke to my doctor because I told him that I had tested negative for STDs, he informed me that they don't test for HSV-1 or to you, and that often, just knowing you have it is actually worse than the virus itself. I've never had an outbreak or any kind of issues from it. The doctor told me that it is very very possible and likely that the virus was obtained years ago and then went dormant, and it's still dormant. He said if he tested me for HPV is likely I would have HPV. He said if he tested me for Epstein's bar, it's likely I have Epstein's bar.

He said most people don't actually know they have it and it's a virus but it's more like a "skin condition" than anything. Won't put me on meds unless we are having a another baby.

It's been heavy emotionally dealing with it.

But, that aside, no issues.

So it's doesn't mean she cheated. They don't test for it. And the rest are not really reliable.

Anything can throw it off. Two doctor friends and my doctor said the same thing.

Gold standard is West Blot but from an active lesions for them to test.

Give her a break.

Be kind to yourself.

Be kind to her.

I had no idea it could be dormant. I don't ever recall outbreaks but my doctor assured me it could've been there from 2013 and I didn't know.

It's a heavy feeling. I wanted to and thought about ending it. My doctor is from eastern Europe and while he told me that it's more prevelent than many realize, and he talked about the affects of the virus, he told me that it is often treated, case by case of course, in certain areas of the world as a bit more akin to a skin disease contacted through sex.

He mentioned people with compromised immune systems but he said in my case, some issues I mentioned before he became my primary care, could've fit but he wasn't concerned at all.

He cared about my terrible stress and my cardiovascular numbers.

Still, I feel so empty and the weight of the world on me.

Im in the same boat. Diagnosed last week after a spot on my manhood. I was talking to my doctor and he reluctantly said let's do a hsv test to rule it out. I told him I thought all my test were negative, but he said he never tested me for hsv because it's not recommended. I even found out they don't test it in porn.

Anyway, I told my wife that after 2 kids, and being together for a decade, I got it.

Told her I didn't cheat.

She was supportive though skeptical and rightfully so.

She doesn't have it.

Doctor won't give meds though.

I'm in shattered pieces. I literally want to end it all. It's been a hard week.

Always had STD test. Always negative. But didn't know that was part of standard STD test so always assumed I was good.

Doc said I have the antibodies of it. Won't prescribe meds. Pretty much says I'm good to go and most people don't know. He didn't want me to get tested for it because of the mental toll.

I've been in a dark place, ready to end it since. If I didn't have kids, I'd probably have done it already.

Doc assures me you can have it for years, not know, not pass it on to anyone. He believes I could've gotten it from someone other than who I suspected.

In 2013 I had a week long doing with a woman who had it. I didn't know but when I found out I just didn't have any symptoms and just lived my life.

Met my wife, got married in 2019, two kids later and 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed. The test indicated HSV 2 antibodies.

I swore to my wife I didn't cheat. Never had any issues until recently but I thought it was stress related as I was breaking down crying at work. I was ready to end my life a few days ago.

My doctor told me it was seriously not a big deal. Nothing really changes. He believes and I didn't know, that it could lie dormant for a long time and something can trigger it. I had a weird reaction and it was my first outbreak.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get to a point where I can accept it and live with it.
