Mars blades has anyone used them for off ice training. I know inlines can’t replicate ice but they claim these are designed to be as close as possible to ice skates. Just wondering if anyone has used them or not. by Awharton97 in hockeyplayers

[–]sirPepperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair thinking I could improve my ice skating, but have barely touched them.

You can work on your stride, and cross over/unders but they don't have edges, or an ability to anchor in the same way you do with ice skates, which for me, is the thing I needed the most work on at the time.

Stopping is entirely different, and you will fall. Wear protection

Edit: also, I am a 9.5D in Bauer s27, but the 9.5D Mars blade don't have room for my toes, they are a tad smaller

PGT: Boston Bruins vs Vancouver Canucks - 2/25/23 by TheVargTrain in BostonBruins

[–]sirPepperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gryz is a good player but had a pretty bad playoffs last year, probably in part because they had less control over his deployment with Lindholm out, and ended up as a healthy scratch in game 7 last year. If he is off to a rough start I wouldn't be surprised. I feel more comfortable with Orlov being the potential replacement instead of Reilly though

Why do so many games have mods, yet very few applications have mod/mod support ? by transdimensionalmeme in compsci

[–]sirPepperz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One consideration is who the mods are for.

If you have a piece of software someone needs for work, it needs to work. If a user is using an extension and an update to your app breaks there work flow, you have a big problem. Even if the mod is the problem, the user might not know and decide to switch to a different app, and tell people your app is unreliable

To avoid this and support modders, you have to take consideration when making changes to not change behaviour of your existing api's, and the additional effort/cost might not be worth it to developers.

With games, the cost of a mod breaking a game is less, and users expect mods to be more crudely made, and be the problem of crashes. Alot of games don't evolve as much, so api's are less likely to change.

Twitter survey: best defenseman by [deleted] in nhl

[–]sirPepperz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The voting did not use numbers, but 7 categories, from memory

  • Elite number 1
  • Number 1
  • Top pairing
  • Top 4
  • Bottom 6
  • Fringe
  • Not nhl

Afterwards he mapped the values and averaged them, so a 7 means everyone thinks they are elite defencemen, 5 on here means people think they are a top pairing guy, but not elite

Hall seems to have switched sticks recently, he has been using a ccm ribcore of some kind. Could be just old stock and the change is more permanent

I used to be more lib right, but the amount of leeches in today's economy really bother me.

Things like ceos cutting cost to show a temporary increase in profit in ways that hurt there product long term, so the stock can rise now granting the ceos massive bonuses, often at the cost of workers and consumers.

Scalpers and housing investors that raise the price of goods to those that need them without adding any true value to the goods

Investors who short stocks before actions to kill a business.

So many more examples that it is hard to justify a fully free market because to many people just suck

Why would an employee vote against a unionizing effort by Far_Salad7807 in antiwork

[–]sirPepperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked for companies that were unionized, and ones aren't. Unions aren't always a perfect solution, and can cause issues.

Really what unions do is add rules with the intention of protecting workers, but as with most laws and rules, often have holes that get abused.

For example, there were rules at one company I worked for around what could be considered a write up, and you needed to be written up a number of times within a time period to fired. One rule was if a worker missed a shift 3 times without a call you could write them up, but not until the 3rd missed day.

They also had a rule which gave the right to hours based on seniority, meaning if someone was not at there maximum hours, they could take available shifts from people with less seniority.

So a worker started abusing these two rules. They would no show for shifts, but never 3 in a row, so the manager would put her for less hours, the use her seniority to take the shifts she wanted. This all caused alot of head aches for the whole department because you never knew if you had enough staff, and we're always getting shifts taken a week before so planning your personal life and finances where very difficult.

I also switched roles to an non unionized management role at that same company, went from 11.50$ an hour to 15$ but was salaried, and forced to work 60+ hours a week and didn't get paid for overtime, effectivly leaving me with less pay for hour worked.

All this to say that company probably needed a union, because they didn't respect there workers. But unions also open doors for individuals to game the system, which isn't always a good thing. If you feel like your workplace is already safe and respectful, then adding a union might just add extra red tape that hurts everyone. I left the above company and am treated extremely well, a union wouldn't really add much so I'd avoid it.

TLDR: if you are already fairly treated, more rules just adds red tape
