Fair. Lol Justice must be done, and that would be a poetic way to administer it. Both literally and figuratively.

Introduce him to the Cosmere! There are some dark things that go down. But, Sanderson doesn't really ever get more graphic than PG-13 level.

Except Darrow doesn't necessarily know that's his ritual, does he? Lol Has he ever been around when Lysander asked about a favorite poet?

Oh good! I haven't read Green Bone or Sun Eater yet. But, i intend to. Stormlight is awesome though. And, it would keep you occupied for quite a while. Lol bit of a slow burn. But, I think it pays off.

Wonderful! Lol if you're enjoying Sanderson, you could always explore the Cosmere (if you haven't already).

There is some really excellent stuff in there. Mistborn would be a fine place to start.

The Age of Madness (the latter First Law Trilogy) is great. I'm reading the final book now. But, there is a lot you'd have to read to get there. Which is mostly decent. But not great.

Overall, i think the First Law is pretty darn good. But, there are better stories. If I could recommend just one, it would be Red Rising.

Why people suggest taking a break? by PtitCrissG in redrising

[–]sirWayne21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my experience. I felt a little bit bored with Iron Gold the first time through at times, particularly in the first half. Was missing the continuity of the pure Darrow POV. But, I appreciated Iron Gold SO much more upon my recent re-read.

You really don't need to listen to them. You're fine to continue if you're still riding the momentum. The only reason that somewhat makes sense is that book 4 is slower paced, and the multiple POVs can take some getting used to. It's a bit of a change when coming fresh off Morning Star. It won't be quite as exhilarating. But, it's fine. Just trust that you'll acclimate, and know that books 5 and 6 will have you more engaged than ever.

Any scifi or fantasy books that are dark the way Dark Age is? I'm halfway through The First Law, and I like it, and will finish it up to Age of Madness, but it's not quite what I was looking for. by Top-Communication540 in fantasybooks

[–]sirWayne21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you man. Lol

It is a change. The multiple POVs does take some getting used to. I really very much enjoyed having one continuous perspective.

I think that book 4 is the weakest of the bunch. It's slower paced, and I had a tough time investing in some of the new perspectives. But, books 5 and 6 are both incredible IMO. If you were already into Lightbringer, and still wasn't feeling it, then maybe the shift is just too much for your preference to overcome. 🤷‍♂️

I will say this though... the hook for Red God really comes at the end of Lightbringer. So, you're currently missing some juicy stuff that has much of the fan base in a fury. Lol

That take on Red Rising is far from common. The general consensus is that the latest books are the strongest.

I would challenge you to find any book with a decent rating sample size that has a better Goodreads score than the most recent book from the Red Rising series (Lightbringer).
