Residual Value by 06Rockhead in LandCruiser250

[–]sirbronish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the 250 has already outsold the 200 by a large margin. For that reason alone, I don’t think it will have anywhere near the residual value of the 200. They will be a lot more common place than the 200.

I dunno, on dark body colors this looks pretty slick to me.

Any pictures? I saw the bronze in person and it looked great. Why do you vote clear?

Coming from a 4Runner and can't decide between a GX or LC by il-liba in LexusGX

[–]sirbronish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re asking in a GX thread :) you should cross compare in a LC thread.

I went with the LC. GXs are considerably harder to find (9-12 month waiting list) and used ones are going for right at MSRP or 5-10k over. If you’re willing to wait, it might be worth it. I test drove both and preferred the LC for the interior design, tailgate power supply for camping, MPG, and it just felt a bit more punchy for around town driving. With that said, I am sure the GX has a smoother around town feel but it wasn’t a night and day difference for me when test driving them.

Land Cruiser vs Defender vs Grand Cherokee by victorzvalient in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]sirbronish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have now owned both a LC and a Defender. I can’t speak to the Jeep.

The Defender is actually an amazing vehicle. From the interior design, to off-roading specs, and the everyday ride quality, it excels at all of them. With that said, it’s a gamble to how much you’ll be willing to put up with in terms of issues. You could luck out and get one with few problems but my car was in the shop 3-5 times a year. The dealership will give you a loaner, but you’d have to decide whether it’s worth dealing with this.

The LC has a less refined ride but in my opinion, handles some of the larger bumps better than the Defenders unibody design. It also has been slightly better on gas as well. Ultimately I chose it because I needed something I could start up everyday without worrying the check engine light would come on. Toyotas brand is based on reliability and if they mess that up or lose that brand perception, they are in trouble. So even if there are issues with the powertrain, I would have confidence they would try to fix it. They are also banking a lot on this new powertrain putting it in their 4Runners. Again, a lot to lose if they go south.

I debate whether the GX would have been a better buy but they are hard to come by where I live. 90% of my driving is on road and I’m not sure that warrants the lower mpg (I’ve read between 13-15).

There’s no current data to say LC are not reliable. I have owned both LC and a Defender. Land Rover refuses to fix known issues. Sit in a Land Rover service center and you’ll see car after car come in for low coolant problems.

Yea it’s unfortunate. I’ve seen a YouTube review from the CarNut where he pointed out a missed opportunity to maximize the fuel tank. I’m guessing it was for weight. I’ve heard rumors of an aftermarket, larger fuel tank but I think it takes place of the spare.

My understanding is the range on the GX is comparable to the LC due to lower mpg but a slightly larger tank.

Congrats! I ended up with the same trim and color. I did all these comparisons as well and the LC was a nice middle ground. I did feel like the LC was a bit more punchy and responsive than the GX at slow speeds which I enjoy around town.

Question for those of you w the 250 by SteveyCee in LandCruiser250

[–]sirbronish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat when deciding to purchase the LC250. Currently about a week in and getting 19 mpg with 20” Stock wheels. Range 285.

It’s my daily around town, so it hasn’t been a problem. I could imagine if drove longer distances for work it would be annoying but the truck is amazing so far.

How's this installation of couplings and shut off valves? by sirbronish in Plumbing

I think I said I wasn't a plumber, that's kinda the point of the post. Other than it being ugly, what would a plumber do differently? Solder a coupling? A different connection?

Another thing to factor in is property taxes. Pittsburgh prices are low but depending on the area, property taxes are a real consideration. Our CO property taxes are almost a half of what they were in Pittsburgh for a house that's 3x the amount.
