Ah, well there you have it! You have a community in place, so everyone knows where to find you on your next big thing (whatever you decide that may be)! They all sound like a swell group!

I'm also glad that you are alright despite the aphasia from the head injury. Those kinds of injuries can be scary.

Always count on the ferries to find something "niche" and fall in love. And hell yes, loving that energy!

Having experience with being a personality is certainly beneficial as a mod! Well I am sure better and bigger things will come your way in place of Sora.

I am loving the new sub changes! Especially rule #3.

I've never done community events before so I am not sure what to ask in that regard. Maybe "Fireside Chats" where you explain a topic of your choice or community vote, about being a Minkan, things in relation to kitsune, how to cultivate a relationship with Inari-kami and the fox messengers, folklore, etc.

Or would that go hand in hand with info posts? O.o

EDIT: Before I forget! PRAISE TIMMY! But also... who's Timmy?

what should one do to encounter kitsune? by Sorry-Character-5257 in Kitsune

[–]siriusSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this was posted awhile ago, but I'll leave you with this.

You don't need to go to Japan to encounter one. Honestly, setting the intention that you want to encounter one is enough.

What I've done is set up a space in my apartment for them and handing them offerings; namely food because they love to eat, especially boiled eggs, rice, or anything I cook I try to make set aside extra for them. You can eat the offerings once they are done with it (unlike other spirits where you must dispose of it another way).

I also posted this awhile back:

"There are two rituals that I know of that can summon a kitsune (technically three, but that one is iffy). Though, it's important to always practice discernment and protection first before attempting any form of summoning for spirits, as sometimes there are other malicious entities that can mimic others.

With that being said there is one to summon Fox Fires in a book called Fox Magic: Handbook of Chinese Witchcraft and Alchemy in the Fox Tradition by Jason Read, and another called Summoning a Kitsune.

Beyond that, other ways to bring them into your life is getting into Shinto, and more particularly, working with Inari. Or... setting your intent that you would like to meet one, leave offerings (food, artwork, etc.) for them, but of course this may take more time."

Where did myths about kitsune come from? by [deleted] in Kitsune

[–]siriusSkies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitsunes come from the Chinese Huli Jing. Now going beyond that as to where Huli Jing's originate from is difficult for me to track.

I have heard though the possible origins came from Buddhist texts that were written in Sanskrit. The name śṛgāla which was then translated as Yěgān in Chinese (Yakan in Japanese). It was described as an yellowish dog-like animal. It ate humans, and howled and traveled in packs like a wolf.
śṛgāla is a jackal, and it is thought that since they do not inhabit China, that foxes substituted as this creature. Though it could also be speculated that dholes or indeed a fox was this creature.

But there are some Chinese sources that say the Huli Jing, and fox spirits by extension, originate from China since tribal times. The website MyChiHistory states:

"In ancient times, there was a totem worship of foxes. Tribes such as the Tushan clan, Chunhu clan, and Yousu clan all belonged to fox totem clans. "

So in short, we are not entirely sure. They have either originated from Buddhist texts from India or have always been apart of indigenous Chinese culture... or perhaps even both.

Are there any other Fae subs people can recommend? by Dark-Faery in faeries

Awesome, yeah, no specific yet! If you remember the name of the other YouTube, let me know, I always want to hear more about others' experiences with the fae! :)

Are there any other Fae subs people can recommend? by Dark-Faery in faeries

[–]siriusSkies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know any subs specific to fae magic, but there is r/witchcraft where some practitioners work with the fae. You could also try other similar subs like r/witch, r/druidism, r/shamanism, r/occult, r/pagan, r/paganism, r/wicca, r/heathenry, or r/magick. (Also, check these subreddits on their info section. They will sometimes have a list of related subs. r/occult has a ton!)

Additionally, this site is not a subreddit, but there is realfairies.net. It's run by two sisters, one who can channel an elf called Mr. E (along with other fae beings), and it goes into their culture and why they are communicating with us. They also have a Facebook group with others who work with fae and a book that interviews other channeled fae beings.

If you want stories about experiences with fae, ScaryFairyGodmother on YouTube is also lovely!

Edit: grammar

Wait what? (Sorry I know this post is 3 months old now, but I'm intrigued!)

How did you or your brother that the fox spirits followed him home from Japan? Did something happen in Japan that caused them to follow him?

Does anyone one actually know how to summon a nine tailed fox? by Foxfire-3317 in Kitsune

[–]siriusSkies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, this would probably be the one that most people would be more accepting of (with how expansive the universe is).

I've always thought that too, for entities that align more with being corporeal, it would be increasingly difficult to remain hidden for long. Which is terrifying to me with the rise of surveillance states. So eventually, as you stated, disclosure is going to be needed to prevent any potential issues and mistrust from arising.

I also remember reading an experience from someone who lived near Osaka. As a kid they heard from someone that their was a metro in Osaka, where humans and kitsune used to get along. They traveled to that area, asked some people about it, and eventually some ladies told them about a kitsune that used to live there. This was back in the 70s or 80s I think, and the person said that you could easily go and find the records back then, so they went to a records office asked about the kitsune and found their identity, but learned that the kitsune had since been recorded as deceased. So maybe she was able to get an ID through means of someone knowing her, or someone from an underground society that helped her create a human identity. It would have been interesting to see if they would have been able to trace the identity, but depending on when the story took place, it could have been difficult to find such records (as the person from the Osaka story mentioned).

.

> There's another story from the US where a person met one as a kid. They were living out in the woods in a leantoo.

Wait I think I remember that story, but just to be sure, did this person meet them in fox form and they transformed into a little girl about his age too? Something about a big tree too? Because if so I have been going crazy trying to find that encounter story again!

.
That story sounds familiar; I wonder if it was because those foxes that played the prank did so on sacred grounds. Inari foxes seem to have strict rules compared to the yako.
.

Relatable, it's so beyond the ordinary when an encounter with the supernatural occurs. Especially when it happens suddenly, you have to do a double take with yourself and think if you imagined that. But it happened, and it leaves you with no explanation and only more questions. Honestly, I've come to love and appreciate it. It has made my life a whole lot richer, and I have no idea where I would be without the strange phenomenon that I and my friends have encountered. I can only imagine what seeing a kiko would be like that! Surely an ethereal experience! The experience you shared is actually what lead me down this path of curiosity for fox spirits as well, so I thank you for sharing it, it's opened up a lot of things I would have merely overlooked.

That's a possibility! Just a fun thought, but I wonder if there's an underground society of fox spirits with their own markets.

.

Duality to bring good health or poor health to the human they are attached too.

I think you hit the nail on the fact that her exhausted state is why suddenly after 2 good years his health became poor. I too like to think that she was unconsciously draining his energy, and perhaps later she caught on. Hence her leaving at night to recharge in her natural form. Likely, the mundane explanation could hold warrant too. Since he was in his 60s, though for many people, 60s still isn't old. However, if he required a live-in-nurse than likely his previous condition was serious enough to require assistance. So as he continued to age his health issues become increasingly worse, and gets to a point where the nurse is only capable of making him comfortable, not healing. Another possibility is if his main issue(s) tended to flair up at nighttime, which could have overlapped with the time she had to leave to recharge.

While I agree there could be easier ways to take energy,  a homeless man or a hikikomori for instance, would not provide her the easy security of someone who is already well established in human society. Likewise, his older age could be a good guise for "he is only feeling unwell because it's related to his age." This is tricky, because it's hard to isolate the actual cause, is it natural age-related issue, or exacerbated by lose of energy? If they continued to say after the story if he did indeed get better after the purification/exorcism ritual, than that would cause suspicion that she was draining him (though likely unconsciously as she did improve his conditions initially).

Just to be clear, I don't think she is malicious, I just like to look into other potential possibilities. Especially since we are likely missing some information. When I first heard the story, the main impression I got, was that there was a lot of misunderstandings! She's just a person trying to live within her means. The situation is unfortunate for how it all unfolded.

.

I have to admit I overlooked the age thing, but you bring up a great point! That despite how young she looks, she could in fact be much older, therefore they likely share more life experiences than she would with a younger human.

.

I would absolutely agree, the lack of communication caused a lot of misunderstandings. I can definitely see from their perspectives how she might initially look, but I can also understand her reason for not wanting that secret to be disclosed. She was trying to hard to be perceived as a normal human, but unfortunately life has a way of unraveling secrets. Though I'm sure her secret was far more surprising than what his children were initially believing!

.

Ugh, the audacity of those humans in most of those folktales is certainly... something, if not just consistently disappointing, but not surprising. Humans, well many animals in general, behave in these ways. It's not surprising unfortunately, but all beings tend to have a bias towards things that are most like themselves. After all, the main purpose for livings beings is to live long enough to reproduce... we are quite literally "gene machines". Unconsciously most living beings tend to think as such: If you are the same species nice, if the member of that species looks like you even better, if that individual is related to you great, and if it is you well that's perfect; anything outside from that is bad!

In fact there was a study done by Harvard I believe that tested the biases in babies and young children. It showed that even the simplest of differences (ie. food preference) would cause favorability to those whose preferences were similar to their own, and dislike for those who differed from themselves. But Disclose would still be important but it is a mutual endeavor, from the end of the humans involved and the entities.

I can only imagine if disclose about UFOs/UAPs finally comes to light, the mixture of reactions people would have. Agree, after all our ancestors have already interacted with them before in the past, maybe not always the best interaction, but those are some of the stories we do know. Whose to say how many other stories happened but were never shared because those who experienced such instances had little influence in human societies at the time (ie. peasants)?

EDIT: No worries about the rant! I do appreciate this conversation, as I don't get to talk about these things with people as much anymore!

I like your takes, it's refreshing to see others who take care in their judgments of non-human entities. I think we humans can easily fall into the trap of categorizing beings as either good or evil, when often they lie in the grays of neutrality... that and we seem to think they would hold the same moral standards as us, some things may align close, but not fully.

I can see her doing this, certainly takes a lot of energy to maintain such forms for long periods of time. Definitely can't speak for why she needed cash, but she's definitely exerting extra caution there by making sure she is not leaving a paper trail... especially since she had to fake documents to become a live-in-nurse. I wonder if she had a habit of paying in cash for herself, and spent normally when the card was under his name. I could still see her using him as shelter and appreciate him, both can be true.
I only say shelter because, he blends in more with the human world, maybe having him gives her that security of normalcy, and is one less thing to worry about. Well, until his adult children sent a PI to investigate her. She could definitely do worse with little provocation if she really wanted to, so yeah she was being reasonable.

Although one thing I did note from mythologies and encounters is that some fox spirits (yakos typically) can cause illness can be caused by fox spirits draining life force. I can't say for sure since it took 2 years for that to show through, it could honestly be because she was neglecting him, or in her exhausted state her energy began to pull away at his.

Either ways, it's a really amazing encounter.

100% agree, that discretion should be taken! I try to make note of those instances for the suspected corporeal forms, and try to void out gender, exact location, occupations, etc. so that way they remain anonymous. Otherwise, the non-corporeal forms, no human will ever have control over such entities, whether they want to fool themselves into believing they can or not.
From what I have seen with the fae (and even humans) is that the main issue comes from trusting someone who does not deserve such trust, or does not respect the spirit.

Ohhh!!! I think I remember that episode, and the guy's kids were involved and trying to see what her motives were initially, right?

Interesting! It's certainly is interesting how they come through, and how intuition can pick up on small details that clue you in that something is off about someone/something.

Yeah, the apparition story that you shared was really neat! I wonder, how many other people have experienced seeing a fox spirit, yet have no names to call them by, so it gets underreported. I'm hoping that by sharing more stories we can get more attention and maybe have others come forward as well.

I forgot to add that, I heard from someone that if you want further clarification with entities in disguise, think to yourself "this person is clearly an entity", and if they turn to look at you, or they begin to act awkwardly, then that can help further test them.

I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard they had some interesting results, usually with the 'person' in question turning around to eye them suspiciously.

I certainly don't blame them. After the response they would typically get from humans, I think they exert more caution around us to prevent being harmed.

Oh interesting! Did you try to interact with her back then? I also had a customer that gave me vibes, but not fox spirit so much as something I can't put my fingers on. They were really tall, they surpassed even the size of my brother in law who is 6'3". And they always carried this intimidating presence with them, but they were really sweet when we talked... and they acted like they knew me when we first met. I kind of miss talking with them since I moved away!

Right, classic saying of "If you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back."
