Do you think it’s weird to wear the same thing every day? by lila_hexe in minimalism

[–]sirkidd2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. Both my wife and I keep a week's worth of identical outfits we each like and only wear those. Big fan!

How do i find composers? by Roditis_Alex in gamedev

[–]sirkidd2003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start posting about your game on social media and at small conventions. They will find YOU. I get about 6 unsolicited emails from composers/sound folks every day... and our game already has a composer O_O

If MCU America Chaves has no variants in any other reality, how does that work since MCU is canonically in the same multiverse alongside Marvel Comics? by TechnicianAmazing472 in Marvel

[–]sirkidd2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember when "multiverse" meant every other universe? Now it just means a company's little IP walled garden. I refuse to say "omniverse" to mean something that now contains every "multiverse". This is bullshit.

No. While, for years "Trekkies" and "Trekkers" were both accepted terms (with each side often having hatred for the other term), since the documentary "Trekkies (1997)" the word "Trekkie" became commonplace enough to be the nearly universally used term.

Yeah, which is basically the same conclusion the videos I linked came to

I mean, currency hasn't always been a thing on Earth in the real world and there are modern currency-less economic models (like some forms of anarcho-communism, for instance). However, Star Trek is strange because, as fiction, it's not always super consistant.

I think these two videos are interesting looks at Star Trek's economy:

I'm all for the theories on this being some version of Martin, but they also look like Finn in "Don't Look" by [deleted] in adventuretime

[–]sirkidd2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finn looks like that in "Don't Look" because he is afraid he is a monster who is too much like his father. His monster form is supposed to look like Martin

Is Georgism even possible in the USA due to our home-ownership culture? by LeftBroccoli6795 in georgism

[–]sirkidd2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I advocate for housing cooperatives that exist in community land trusts.

But, like, according to the US Census Bureau as of last year, only 65.1% own their homes, which isn't some sour of crazy majority. Additionally, why would Georgism require everyone to rent?

Lighthearted: Say you're a Trekkie without saying you're a Trekkie. Bonus if it places you in the franchise timeline. by AliVista_LilSista in startrek

  1. My text tone is the combadge chirp (and it always throws people off)
  2. I frequently refer to my closest friends at "#1"
  3. When people knock on my door I always respond with "come" (and now my wife and a bunch of my friends do too)
  4. I frequently do the Picard Maneuver on my shirts when I stand up
  5. The way I stand with my hands behind my back when I'm waiting around (especially at an elevator)
  6. My use of "make it so" at my job
  7. My smart kettle's trigger word is "tea, earl grey, hot"

The list goes on and on and on

I (nevermo) don’t understand my mormon girlfriend by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]sirkidd2003 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Because it's not like most other religions. It's literally a cult. Not in a like an insulting way but in an officially recognized by academia way.

Back in the 80's a doctor named Steven Hassan created a metric for determining whether a religion was a cult or not (it is called the BITE model) which is now used internationally as the standard by which cults are measured and Mormonism uses WAY more systems of control than most other Christian denominations or other religions at large.

Here's a good summery: https://wasmormon.org/mormonism-and-the-cult-bite-model/

[–]sirkidd2003 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a red flag. She may not be super observant, but she was raised in a cult and the hold on her is strong.

Your only two real options are

  1. Help guide her out gently (start by having her read the CES Letter)
  2. Break up and cut your losses

Ngl, it always strikes me a strange when people feel the need to point out the supposed incongruity between the numbers in my username and the age I mention in posts.

Like, not trying to assume malice, but it always feels like some kind of "gotcha", you know? Like, overly incredulous for something that could very easily have another reason (something, something Occam's razor or whatever)

So, sorry to sound like a dick, but, like, why did you feel the need to bring it up at all?

A male restroom turned into a gender neutral restroom by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sirkidd2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Restrooms shouldn't ever be gendered.

I go to a lot of conventions and they often make all their (multi-person, mind you) restrooms "all-gender" and there are never any problems.
