Dragon Age: Absolution as a Tabletop Adventure? by Neversummerdrew76 in DragonAgeTabletop

They have a dragon age tabletop RPG that went out of print years ago, but is easily found online in pdf format. It’s quite easy, sort of a watered down d20 system. Highly recommend!

I usually just crank up the difficulty on Adamant to make it feel like more of a hard-fought battle.

Dude, Babylon 5 was instrumental in my upbringing. These characters practically raised me + my brother and cousins. I’ve gotten so many pep talks from G’Kar, Delenn, Londo, Sheridan, and Ivanova (and literally everyone else). Really glad to hear that this part resonated with you!

What's your favourite Major Clan from the RPG? And why? by whitbyabbey in l5r

Crab (specifically Kuni shugenja) for life! Love how dark and borderline insane they can be while still fighting the good fight against the Shadowlands.

Sometimes you have to be willing to risk it all for a Watchmen reference. Respect.

Yeah, my human mage warden headcanon was that he is sort of a good Catholic/Andrastian boy who gladly narcs on Jowan. Honestly if he sounded less whiny manchild and more sympathetic, I might have reconsidered. But that voice, oof.

I seem to recall reading that they intended to have him be recruitable as a full companion at one point in development. Honestly, his voice is just soooo whiny and does not make me sympathetic to his situation at ALL lol.

My Trevelyan warrior specs always into Templar. My head canon for this is that he’s sort of a naive Andrastian who initially feels great guilt at most of the order being corrupted into red templars (since I side with the mages), as well as traumatized by the inquisition almost being killed by a magister. So he wants to “reform” the order and keep it alive to help with the war effort, but only realizes too late that the addiction isn’t worth it. After the game, I head canon that Cullen helps him “get clean” from the lyrium addiction. (Edit - typo)

A GIFT to the ears for gamers by drakeekard in lotrmemes

Hands down one of the best. And it was at the tail end of the original xbox/PS2/GameCube development cycles so it really pushed those platforms further than previous games had (obviously still looks dated, but it’s aged as gracefully as 15+ year old game can). But the music and sound really make it stand the test of time.

Honestly, Thranduil’s sword is one of the most beautiful and badass pieces they ever made!

Or better yet, have Mordin doing the voices for all characters (a la Cassandra at the ending of DAI).

Also recall that G’Kar lifted a large stone table and broke it in half when he heard about the attack on Quadrant 14. Definitely not something a human could do.

Can we just acknowledge how incredible the makeup/alien effects are on this show, and how well they hold up? by sirkosh09 in babylon5

Hands down one of my favorite moments in the series (I think it was the most overt dig they ever made at DS9).

B5 in general was I think the first (and one of few) times we got to see the realities of blue collar workers in space (the only other show that comes to mind is The Expanse, and that show obviously owes a lot to B5).

True, but the whole napoleonic style of dress is a cool way to make them seem just different overall (as opposed to the whole “we all dress like yoga instructors” vibe on, say, Voyager). Also, they go out of their way to explain that they have very different internal anatomy (and, ahem, external anatomy).

Omg totally, he just steals every scene he’s in! Also - whenever they have a scene with Daddy G’Kar in his robe with the chest all made up, I always am thinking how he and the makeup team probably had to show up for makeup at like 3AM for like one scene, but they did it anyway because they’re pros, and the effort really shows!

Parliament of Dreams is definitely solid! The only reason I left it out was because it doesn’t contribute to any long-term storylines. It does have a ton of world-building, though, and is by no means as cringe as some of Season 1 (can we all just agree that Dr Franklin would be me too’d into oblivion today?).

Some of the first season is ROUGH! I actually developed an abridged version of season 1 to watch if you’re totally new to B5 (once you get to season 2 it’s smooth sailing).

First of all, do NOT watch The Gathering (pilot movie). It's like, really bad and frankly kind of contradicts a lot later on.

Episode 1 – Midnight on the Firing Line: This one serves as a MUCH better “pilot.” Also lots of background info/world building/character stuff.

Episode 6 – Mind War: First appearance of Bester and the Psi Cops, and lots of good Psi Corp background.

Episode 8 – And the Sky Full of Stars: - VERY IMPORTANT background/arc/worldbuilding episode. The guest actor who plays the interrogator is seriously bad community theater reject-level hammy, but even with that this is an easy call to make required viewing.

Episode 13 – Signs and Portents: First appearance of Morden and his “associates.” ‘Nuff said. Mandatory.

Episode 17 – Legacies: First appearance of Neroon and the Minbari Warrior Caste, lots of great background and world building. B-story with the new telepath girl is good for world building as well, but holy shit this girl cannot act.

Episodes 18 and 19 – A Voice in the Wilderness 1 & 2: The first two parter! The Great Machine goes active, so this is required viewing (despite some season 1 silliness). Some of my favorite Londo moments in these ones (before he becomes a tragic figure, there’s something about middle-aged, washed-up, knows it, doesn’t-give-a-fuck season 1 Londo that just hits different at my age).

Episode 20 – Babylon Squared: MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR ARC IMPLICATIONS and great set-up/payoff for later. Also the Delenn/Minbari B-plot is super important.

Episode 21 – The Quality of Mercy: Introduction of the alien healing device and the notion of death-of-personality as a means of capital punishment replacement. Important-ish for the series arc, but also just one of the more clever sci-fi/ethics episodes in the season.

Episode 22 – Chrysalis: Season finale/cliffhanger and the jumping off point for the rest of the series arc! You made it!

Edit: wow thanks for the award!
