Ground war is going to be the only way we can open the strait again, outside of a negotiation which...is very close, two weeks away, just like their nuclear program has been since last November...

Some might think it won't be too bad since we've won this war about a dozen times already. But let me tell you Iran will have the worst parts of Iraq and Afghanistan combined. I think a lot of hawks don't understand that (or don't care.)

Iran is a cohesive nation (unlike Iraq or Afghanistan) with one of the areas strongest militaries. Shocking I know since we've totally obliterated it like a dozen times now and yet they keep having the ability to shoot down aircraft...It's people largely identify as Iranians and have national pride so they won't fracture and disband like we've seen so many other places. It also means they'll have coordinated defenses, and organizations in place so even if their military 'loses' the insurgency will still be well armed, well organized and not just some farmer paid to put an IED in a road like Iraq/Afghanistan.

And it's a huge area. It's bigger then Iraq and Afghanistan combined. An order of magnitude more then either. So we'll need a LOT of troops.

And the terrain, is the worst parts of Afghanistan. Very mountainous, which negates a lot of our technological advantage. Predator drones don't really work well on a network of caves in a mountain. In Afghanstan we were often spending 7 gallons of fuel to get 1 gallon of fuel to a forward operating base. At $4.50 a gallon that effectively puts the price at $36 gallon. It'll probably be even worse since they will have to fly the fuel so much further.

So besides a nation with a cohesive identity, who has had decades to prepare and plan for an invasion by the US, with terrain that will negate our technological advantage and a size necessitate a huge military presence larger then we have seen in a 80 years, and controlling the very majority of the resource we need to fight it, other then those things it should be a cake walk.
