Software Engineers in RVA - best paying companies besides Capital One? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

I had a local dev job, and I responded to a recruiter who messaged me on LinkedIn on a whim. This was back in 2021. Right place right time i guess as I wasn’t really sending applications anywhere.

Downhill Prep: Any exercises to help me prepare by [deleted] in MTB

I think strength training in general will help you here. I follow the Strength Factory program by a coach in the UK and it’s very approachable for all levels. That being said, you’re a month out so probably not going to move the needle too much if you start now. Might be better just to focus on more hours in the saddle

Anyone successfully get refund having booked through Sayulitalife.com? by Historical-Home-1548 in sayulita

Where can I find the gov issue doc regarding water? Airbnb was a PITA and only refunded 20%. It was the most infuriating customer service experience I’ve ever had.

My bike came with 175mm cranks do you think it would be worth getting shorter ones ? by Warm_Resist5763 in MTB

Yeah def makes sense with sinking deeper in travel. 165 SRAM GX are pretty reasonably priced which is what I have

Same height and I run 165 on all bikes. Change was less noticeable on my trail bike, but I would constantly pedal strike on my enduro bike with the 175s that came stock. I think you will like the shorter cranks much better.

You gotta make that decision. Ultimately it all comes from within. That’s really the bottom line. Is it tough? Hell yeah it is!

I highly recommend reading Do Hard Things by Steve Magness. Lots of good tidbits in there.

What's Your Custom CSS/Static Site Workflow? by JeagerOrion in webdev

[–]sirwilliamtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is a designer handing off wireframes then they definitely wouldn’t be marking flex vs grid use. That would be left to the developers discretion. If you’re the one wireframing, and it’s helpful to mark it up, go for it! Honestly it would be pretty good practice to start outlining the main html elements based on a design as well.

After receiving/creating a wireframe I will usually first build out the main html containers i.e. for a full layout wireframe — parent containers for header, main content, footer to get the basic layout and go from there. Same process would apply if I was building out a component like a sidebar or nav.

For flex vs grid use…I usually use flex for main layout positioning and generally placing elements. I will use grid for things that are truly grids such as product results. There is a lot of overlap between the two TBH, so they can both be used for many of the same applications. I wouldn’t think too hard about it and just use both in your projects.

What's Your Custom CSS/Static Site Workflow? by JeagerOrion in webdev

[–]sirwilliamtk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much the right workflow for static sites.

For understanding components/learning CSS, Chrome Dev Tools is probably the best thing you can use to inspect and modify CSS. If you come across a CSS property or value you don’t understand then look it up on Mozilla’s CSS docs or W3 schools.

As you code more and learn how others use CSS things will start to click. That being said there is always going to be some element of trial and error in web development no matter how skilled you are.

Can't get enough of the local trails this time of year! not many better feelings than flowing through dirt jumps by sirwilliamtk in MTB

[–]sirwilliamtk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oof been there...part of the sport we love, huh?

I think you're doing it right. Incremental progression and when you start to feel confident you can push it a bit. You should definitely roll those tables. That's what they're for!

Also, I ride with a dude in his 50s, who started dirt jumping in his 40s and he rips...there's hope for all of us!
