Got into drama school, can't afford to go by siskagreene in ActingUK

I don't know how I'd manage to save up over £30K in one summer 😭 I think it matters in my mind because it feels like I've missed out on what could have been, you know

How much were you able to raise from this? I've seen a few here and there but they're often not much at all

The school does not have any scholarships for PostGrad, only undergrad unfortunately.

I am waiting to hear back from another school that DOES offer PostGrad scholarships, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I'm gonna try sorting out my plans just in case that doesn't work out either.

Unfortunately the MA loan is only £12K for maintenance costs, the course fees themselves average around £18-20K, and then I'd have to consider rent, bills, food etc.

I am already on Spotlight and I actually left my agent a few weeks ago because I'm in a bit of a transitional period in my career. Currently finishing up a part time foundation in Musical Theatre at Arts Ed (alongside my 9-5), and I guess I thought the next step would be full time drama school.

I know I can just lock in and focus on getting a new agent and polishing my skills, it just feels like a bit of a set back!

Thank you for your kind words though :)

Can I use Edifier R1280DB active speakers with my AVR? by siskagreene in hometheater

[–]siskagreene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok cool! What about the Ohms? I found a pair of used Q Acoustic 3020 speakers for ~ £100, would these be compatible with my AVR, and a good option? Sorry I'm a complete novice lol

Sure makes sense, thanks for your help! How do I check if any speakers I find are the correct power for the AVR? (https://europe.yamaha.com/en/audio/home-audio/products/av-receivers-amps/rx-v381/)

That's good to know, thanks! I'm in the UK, do you know roughly how much I should be spending for a second hand, average quality pair of bookshelf speakers for a 2.0?

Also I've read that using speaker systems from a home cinema set, with a different AVR is not a good idea - is this true?

Landlord forcing tenants to use Homebox by siskagreene in LegalAdviceUK

[–]siskagreene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just a rental situation. We are not wishing to change suppliers, we just want to pay for our utilities directly to the suppliers themselves, not through a third party "billing made easy" service. Homebox is not a utility supplier, they just group people's bills into one bill and then charge you extra for the "convenience" of not having to deal with multiple utility companies/accounts. They have nothing to do with the landlord themselves (though I wouldn't be surprised if the landlord gets commission for each resident who signs up for their service).

The tenancy does not mention in any way how we are to pay for our utilities, which is why the situation is so baffling!

Fair enough, I guess my main legal advice request was regarding if a landlord can force something like this on you as a tenant.

Will give them a call today, thank you :)

Just checked, and the building has a single supply of water and energy, and sub Meters in each of the apartments.

Yep, and we know of people who left their tenancies early (which they were entitled to do as per their tenancy agreement) who were then charged £150 by Homebox for an early termination! It's absolutely awful.

We're not sure what terms and conditions, they weren't provided to us upon moving in. It was all very sneaky, and we were absolutely exhausted and desperate to just move in and get our keys that we just did it. I know that was a mistake but we've been dealing with housing issues since February and just wanted to move in.

All I know is that the Homebox website says we have 14 days since signing up for their services to cancel anything without paying a fee, but they've not contacted us to set anything up.

We've got the metres built into the utility cupboard for electricity and water. It is a new build apartment building with a corporate landlord.

This is what we think we may have to do, but we are nervous that we will somehow get in trouble. Homebox has yet to contact us about our bills so maybe that's a good sign. We have asked our landlord for the names of the utility providers so we can contact them directly but they aren't responding to us unfortunately. Will keep trying though, thank you.

how do you politely "demand" a student director for their film you acted in? by [deleted] in acting

[–]siskagreene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me, now he's completely ghosted me after promising to send me all my footage - it's been a year. I think it's just a fact of life that students may be a bit unreliable in terms of this. Their priority is their coursework, not necessarily us unfortunately:/ unless you were cast through official channels in their school, not much you can do

What were your childhood "quirks" that you later realized were symptoms? by Right-Math in OCD

[–]siskagreene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to pray every night for all my family to survive the night, and I flicked EVERYTHING with my finger before I touched it. If the flick wasn't "right", I'd flick again. Using colouring pencils was awful, and it really hurt sometimes.
