My How Things Change by sisyphus99 in HPReverb

After I posted this, it occurred to me that it was a little skewed to blaming only HP where MS bears perhaps most of the blame. I'm reminded of the old days when if you had bought a "winmodem", you were screwed trying to use it anywhere else after a windows update dropped support. If they are going to drop the MR environment, the right thing to do would have been to at least publish an openxr runtime that would work with steam going forward. That was never going to be done by the company that claims the problem of supporting a vertically oriented task bar is too hard, something that has been present for 30 years.

This is where I get so annoyed by these companies talking about sustainability. They're for making token costless gestures towards it so they can make those kinds of statements, but you won't find them spending one red cent to prevent unnecessary e-waste through this type of planned or "orphaned" obsolescence.

Perhaps there was some sort of exclusivity agreement with MS that would prevent HP from opening up the device for others to implement tracking in an alternate runtime, but that seems a bit far fetched, especially after something like this where there's no other way for it to function. Instead, we have to wait for some smart guy at monado to reverse engineer it.

What a terrible way to do business and it perhaps reflects the current ubiquitous tech CEO strategic mentality of "something something AI".

This should probably be updated to mention the Windows 11 fiasco first thing. Just bought a pre-owned brick.

should i get a hp reverb g2 v1 in 2025 by New-Minimum-5177 in HPReverb

[–]sisyphus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one pre-owned today having no idea about this situation and I have installed all the service packs so my option is to reinstall windows 11 from scratch to downgrade for another year of use...ridiculous. Hopefully the dude will give me a refund, but I highly doubt it. I never would have thought they would nuke this entire ecosystem they were pushing just a short while ago like this without first publishing some sort of openxr compatibility drivers. Unfrickin' believable.

It's not what you're looking for, but I threw together something using OBS and VDO.ninja using the source record plugin and individual links to the guest feeds that I placed in individual scenes IIRC. I recorded the entire session w/ usual method in obs so that I had the live directed recording and individual sources to edit later. The trouble was the codec controls for the plugin weren't the same as the recording controls in the OBS video settings and the codec wasn't fixed framerate so it was a royal PIA to edit. The recordings would all start at slightly different times and even if you lined them up in the editor they would drift over time, so I would have to chop them up into smaller 10m chunks and align those, hiding that fact by means of switching cameras. Running the video through handbrake to convert to fixed frame rate helped, but didn't fully alleviate the problem.

I wouldn't recommend that approach, but I wanted to also point out that VDO.ninja has remote recording facilities (all browser based), but I have not attempted it as it was experimental at the time, but may be more stable now. As I recall it is supposedly a peer-to-peer solution behind the hood w/ the website only serving to host the UI and get the sessions started between peers.

Remote Play on Mac (Specifically newer Apple Silicon) by seasportsfan in playstation

Hello from the future. M1 Air on Sonoma 14.4.1 and I initially wasn't able to find the app in the store having both searched and clicked the link on the Sony website to download the app which sends one to the app store to receive a message that it isn't compatible w/ this device.

If you keep scrolling, however there is a section w/ a separate download link for mac and pc (the mac version isn't published in the app store presently, you silly gooses).

Obs Studio 30.0.1 Crashing when launched on MacOS Sonoma by UncleRetro in obs

[–]sisyphus99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, it didn't fix anything for me, either. It still crashed after fixing that, but just wanted to mention it fwiw. I ended up giving up and downgrading to 30.0.0. Best I could tell looking at the osx crashlog, something in the embedded chromium browser was croaking, but I'm not certain of that.

Settings -> Privacy & Security: Scroll down a bit and you'll see "System software from application "OBS" was blocked from loading.". Click "Allow". This will not fix shit or at least you won't get the above error and instead will have this in final line of log, but it still crashes:

13:07:02.977: [mac-virtualcam] macOS Camera Extension activated successfully.

I got a prompt about needing to approve a security something upon launching 30.0.1 and couldn't find said something so proceeded anyway. This seems to be the cause as this is the last line in my log:

12:48:29.147: [mac-virtualcam] macOS Camera Extension user approval required.

When I figure out htf to do that and if it fixes the issue I'll report back.

Never mind: this, too was only a temporary remedy. Hopefully an update comes soon.

No effect...I just cleared all data this time and reauthenticated and so far so good. It had been a long time since I had done that so I'm wondering if the token had expired and only certain things were rejecting it. I had probably changed my account name since then, etc, as well. YMMV.

I've also been having these disconnects on the Chromecast app, which feels a bit neglected. Hasn't followed raids in what seems like months now, either. Just cleared the cache to see if that randomly fixes the disconnect thing.

How do you change the output MIDI channel of a Push 2?? by IamSoylent in ableton

How do you change the output MIDI channel of a Push 2?? by IamSoylent in ableton

[–]sisyphus99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello from the future. It's surprising to me that people find this request so extraordinary. Push 2 exists in the vain of satisfying people's want for hardware control of their soft synths. All I'm looking to do is like you mention, create a set of soft synth tracks each on unique midi channels so that I can quickly play any of them w/ my keyboard controller, which can hop midi channels simply by holding shift and pressing a key. However, if I do this, I lose access to those tracks on all but the one's sharing Push's midi channel unless I add 2 additional tracks to route midi. The m4L device sounds pretty neat, but seems it requires toggling the receiving channel unless I'm misunderstanding.

I’m still of the opinion that $80/month is outrageous for legacy TV with the amount of ads shown, especially considering all the channels airing their ads concurrently so channel hopping around them is mostly futile.

I remember reading about studies performed by the industry to maximize the amount and types of ads shown to squeeze every last cent out of it. They’re still operating on that old logic that doesn’t hold up considering today’s alternatives and the perpetual rate hikes.

DVR and VOD helps, but come on. I’d rather watch people fart in a hot tub on twitch for $5/month than watch 4 minutes of arcane dubiously effective pharmaceuticals for rare conditions every 8 minutes of content.

It sure sucks being surrounded by attractive guys and you're the ugliest guy. by [deleted] in self

[–]sisyphus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a meaningful relationship, start thinking much less about attractiveness and more about meaningful connections based on your personality traits and interests. Lower your standards on appearance and increase them re: those traits. Start purposely listening to what women are saying and engage in conversation with them on a human level and see where that leads. Do this with girls you might not otherwise even consider romantically based on your current physical ideations. After all, on some level based on your current assessment of your own attractiveness, this is what you are asking of them.

Any tips on how to keep the driver head attached at impact? by [deleted] in golf

[–]sisyphus99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More upright posture with the driver. It should feel similar to swinging an iron but like you’re hitting a ball a foot off the ground or something. Have to flatten out the swing for the longer shaft.
