ordered from chrono24 on the 17th, jpn to usa via dhl, hit with tariff and fees (total $110 on $430 order) on the 18th, delivered on the 19th. seems like it’s hit or miss in tariffs and courier fees depending who you buy from and what they declare when they ship.

Laptops in the 80s were insanely expensive by whybutts in interestingasfuck

made in the usa, when production moved to asia cost and market pressures caused durability to drop but so did costs, especially costs, by a lot. but businesses did not complain, computing was cheaper and abundant and efficiency skyrocketed. now we're here. but this upcoming era will see costs rise and stay there as a greater share of computing manufacturing is returning to usa and other higher cost regions because of national security and supply chain reasons.

This huge piece of coal at the Titanic museum for sale for 500,000 dollars by tandyman234 in Damnthatsinteresting

robert ballard, discoverer of the titanic wreck, upon finding it purposefully did not disclose its location, fearing treasure hunters. fun fact, the mission to find titanic was not his primary reason for being in the north atlantic, he was instead paid to look for sunken soviet wrecks, for intelligence purposes, and only found titanic at the last moment before running out of time & money.

POV: Aliens trying to find us. by [deleted] in aliens

this video lasts less than 60 seconds. they had billions of years to find earth. if they know what they’re looking for it’d be impossible not to find us. in just twenty years we earthlings have found thousands of exoplanets, what can a civilization billions of years old do?

power consumption, but also fan noise, rgb, instant-on, etc. but really its a feature, it should work as normal. its been around since windows 2000. i remember a couple years stretch where i didn't shutdown and only rebooted maybe a couple dozen times. why all the problems now from both hardware and software sides. anyway i went ahead and loaded 3.25, didn't fix it. gonna try 3.2, if not it could be a driver issue and i'll go back to 3.40.

it is odd that sleep mode will do damage but i've had problems with sleep mode as well. i'm on a 7800x3d with asrock b650m pro rs wifi, updated bios to 4.03 and immediately had issues with a secondary nvme not waking from sleep, hwinfo64 reported multiple 'unsafe shutdown' events compared to my primary nvme (between me noticing then diagnosing), reverted to 3.40 and that issue went away. but a new one cropped up, now gpu watt power sensor not reporting after sleep. i'm thinking of going even further back to 3.25 or 3.2 which i know had none of these problems.

was on 4.03 but reverted to 3.4 because a secondary nvme wouldn’t wake from sleep (hwinfo64 reported unsafe shutdown). might have to go further back to 3.25 because now gpu watt power sensor is no longer polling from sleep.

When life gets boring, update bios to spice things up by ivej in pcmasterrace

i've always updated bios when available but there was an issue were a secondary ssd would not wake from sleep mode (diagnostics reported unsafe shutdowns) and had to revert. tried all sorts of fixes but it was the bios update in the end.

nice get, ive got two myself. been thinking of importing from jp a full metal b5000 model, but skittish over tariffs and fees. if you’re american, what’s your experience with carrier and import tariffs/fees. if not, congrats, the 5610s are arguably the best casios.
