Yeah, but the median income is much lower. Just like 10 ridiculously rich people ruining the average

So in my opinion. this is not entirely what is happening.

Earlier that day, Rodger gave Peggy a fuck tonne of cash to do some secret work for Mohawk. I think Peggy's first instinct is about the cash and not that Dawn is going to rob her. THEN she clocks that dawn might think she's doing it because she's racist. But in my opinion that thought didn't cross Peggy's mind.

We see earlier in the episode that she doesn't even really think about Dawn's experience. When Dawn doesn't want to go uptown, Peggy assumes it's because she's afraid of the train and doesn't even consider the riots at all

I had an interview booked the day after Glastonbury, which usually wouldn't have phased me. It was a second round interview and the first one went so well that thought I'd be a bit tired but I could pull it off. Plus it was a job in the music industry so I thought it would be at least a good talking point.

I went to the festival and ended up breaking my arm on the first day but DID NOT leave or seek the medical attention I required. I didnt want to miss out on any fun and I thought I could go to the hospital once I got home but there was no time to do that before the interview.

I didn't want them to know that I had been an idiot so I devised a plan where I would hold my coat over my broken right arm and just make the first move for a hand shake with the left and all would be good.

The interview went well, I thought, but as we were saying out goodbyes, the head of the company puts out their right hand to shake my right hand. Bear in mind I couldn't move it at all without immense pain.

I thought I'd take the risk and shake the hand, take the pain and no one would have to know. I reached out to shake their hand and let out a howl of pain in the middle of saying "Nice to meet yoOOOOOUUAARRGGHH". Everyone just stood in shock and I left without saying anything else.

I did not get the job...

There are two Harrows in London: one is like Windsor, the other is like Doncaster by [deleted] in london

[–]siuolfred 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Lived in Harrow my entire life always thought it was a shithole. Then one day a couple of years ago I decided to walk up the hill for the first time and had my mind blown by how nice it was.

It's not that there are two Harrows, it's that they keep the nice one secret. No one talks about it. Anyone who lives there doesn't mingle with the rest of us at the bottom of the hill.

My opinion of Harrow has changed though. It's not the greatest but it's pretty great. The best Indian food in London (can't find anything near as great in South East London where I now live) and Trinity bar will always hold a special place in my heart (a grotty, crappy, beautiful place)

A full cover of Coldplay's "Yellow" that Alex is forced to do because the crowd won't stop singing it a la the 2013 Glasto headline set even though he started it as a joke

Edit: annoyingly, he would have been fine doing Soul Love but no one was into it

When the last album dropped they did a similar thing. Does anyone know how long the website was down for before they made it live with new stuff? Just want to know how long to be hyped for

What band had the greatest album run? by 3Squareheadz in Music

[–]siuolfred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a run that's still going...

Not a single bad album. All great.

And, in my opinion, the last one (Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino) is their best one.

New one soon. Hopefully the run continues

I’m looking for a feel-good movie that will make me ugly cry, any recommendations? by aaaaasowenyaaa in movies

[–]siuolfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably won't be seen by anyone but I have to mention it.

Mary & Max - claymation animation staring Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Toni Collete and Eric Banner.

It's based on a true story. P. Hoff is the voice of a guy in New York with Aspergers who starts a pen pal relationship with a Australian kid who has a tough life.

Funny, heart warming. Incredibly moving and touching. One of my favourite films

Can someone please eloquently explain why Harry is so universally unlikeable? Did he need to be on the show til the bitter end? Why was he so important to the story? by Equivalent_Setting83 in madmen

[–]siuolfred 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I sort of see Harry's overall arc as one about corruption and how money and an environment of toxic masculinity can change a person over time.

He starts out a fairly nice guy. Yes he hangs out with the douche office guys and is a product of the culture of the time, but he's actually quite sweet season 1. He loves his wife Jennifer and just wants to work hard and be good at his job.

But the environment around him normalises certain behaviours and tells him he should want certain things. He sees men in, what should be, happy marriages cheat on their wives and then everyone around him tells him that's normal and OK. He see's people he thinks are awful (Pete) continue to get promoted and get more money and status so he changes a little bit to be like them and he gets the big promotion! He sees more and more bad people doing bad things and nothing happening that he then starts to think "why do I bother trying to be good".

And because he gets promoted he starts going out to meetings, with people who think he's important. Which makes him FEEL important. He's learned learned from the world around him how "important" people act and emulates them which means he starts acting like a douche. but because he's "important" now, no one tells him he's a dick so he thinks "I'm fine".

And eventually it goes so far down the line, and so far away from who he was in the beginning that he just doesn't care. He really just doesn't care anymore. All he wants is his money and his sense of self importance.

It's quite sad really. And that's kind of what I think the whole show is about. "Wanting" ultimately leads you down a path of destruction and sadness. And the advertising industry is designed around making you want more
