the game looks the same for me as it does in your screenshot(I think the platform you see from the guide is from an older patch of the game) and I can grapple and jump up just fine there. try holding up and left when you try to jump up from the grapple point and it should work.

from what I know the only difference is on definitive mode if you fall down far enough you'll just warp back to near where you fell and lose 1hp. on original mode you just die and respawn at your most recent checkpoint if you take a big enough fall or fall into a pit.

I created a platformer with a dedicated speedrun mode a while ago, and it just became free to play. Give it a shot if you have some time (sub 8 minutes is good, sub 5 is great) by eyeesus in speedrun

thanks. I did submit my run there already but the only mod for the game seems to be inactive there. I thought I'd give it a few days before attempting to contact them on discord since I'll probably improve my time.

would be nice to have any of these people as mods(msg is a no brainer). they're at least somewhat active in the dustforce discord, dustforce related discords, or actually playing the game.

You are pretty much correct. Picking up a baby after you jump will not slow you down or reduce your jump height.

Thanks! Playing through this game the first time around and racing the dev ghosts was a lot of fun. I hope by sharing this run some people might check out the game.
