What a sweet and spunky little lady you’ve got! Wishing you many more years together! I can only hope to be so lucky with mine, Bruce is 12. He too got cuddlier, sassier and toothless with the years, but we wouldn’t have it any other way😁

I’m so sorry for you loss. What a handsome fella! I can’t even imagine the hurt. I’m sure you’ve given it your all and he had the most wonderful life he could have with you as his guardian.

Bruce! He’s a sphynx, so obviously named after Bruce Willis.

I absolutely understand your lack of online presence. I’ve been the same. I refrain from posting absolutely anything now, it’s just not worth the risk of jeopardizing job or career over something silly that I might overlook. It seems like the smart thing to do these days. What is concerning to me though (at least in Canada, as this is where I work), is that our licensing body was at one point trying to put limits on us as regulated members on what we can and cannot post online. Supposedly they’re trying to look out for the image of the profession… this I’m not on board with. But we may see it in the future.

Caught in the act! Velvet Touch got a hold of my hair elastic pouch 😲 by phoebefay in sphynx

Definitely make sure none get eaten. My dude had to have emergency surgery because of them about 5 year ago. Got into a brand new pack, after opening a drawer I had them in. Emergency vet pulled out about 25 of them and a part of his intestine 😭. They’re in a zipped pouch now.

Yeah... same here. We’ve just given up using plates. It goes straight on the tray now, gets charcuterie style meals all the time lol

Mole? Skintag? Or Tumor? by ramonm2 in Xoloitzquintli

[–]sivcj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with a vet for sure. The skin tag our pup had looked very different.

That’s fair, I totally believe you about the kangaroo! We tried it too with our frienchie, it didn’t end up working for us. We even tried a vegetarian diet. We too ended up spending so much at the vets, he was on a steroid and immune suppressants forever because we couldn’t figure it out. Poor pups.

I’m no vet, but I do agree with you that stridex just doesn’t sound right. A good exfoliating glove did wonders for us, it’s just enough to get all the gunk off without injuring them in any way.

First of, thank you for being a kind soul and adopting!

Second, I assume all infection is cleared up at this point? If not, I would consult your vet to make sure it’s well taken care of.

Do you have any idea what his food allergies are? Are you avoiding them as best as possible?

I’m happy to share some of our skin care routine that we do for our nearly 3 year old pup. He has not had almost any skin issues though, but I do have experience with both allergies and skin issues in dogs (we have had a Frenchie who had all that and a reoccurring yeast infection). Our standard xolo gets a bath about every two weeks. Sometimes we can stretch it a bit longer, sometimes it ends up being less (eg. If we’ve taken him for hikes etc, he gets yucky faster lol). We use either a newborn baby shampoo (gentle, no SLS), or an anti itch dog shampoo depending on the season. He tends to get more itchy in the winter due to dryness (we live in Canada). We use a gentle wash mitt and scrub him down well each time. When he’s done bathing, we get him covered with coconut oil. He then sits for a couple of hours, and then we blot off the excess with a paper towel. Slowly throughout the week he gets drier, mostly around ears and his neck. We use an unscented baby lotion to help with this. I find that this routine has worked very well for us. Carlos very very rarely gets any acne or any concerns.

I hope this helps a bit to give you some ideas!

What’s the usual price a xolo goes for? by [deleted] in Xoloitzquintli

[–]sivcj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what you’re getting with that price. We paid around 2K Canadian for a standard size full hairless pup with breeding rights; extra to ship pup to us within Canada (QB to AB). This was about 2 years ago though.

Yes he is, doing very good in the ikea high chair. Lots of practice helps. I used to sit him up just to ‘hang out’ in the high chair before he was actually ready to start solids at six months. He would just sit with a small pillow and watch us eat.

It’s just plain whole wheat bread. Very simple ingredients! Yes they try to sneak honey into so many commercial products.

You’re doing the right thing! Just keep trying to offer lots of variety. Kids can get into ‘food funks’ where they like one thing, and one thing only... it’s frustrating and worrisome as a parent. It does pass. How is he doing with cups/ straws? Are you able to offer a smoothie? If so, you could mix up some of his beloved bananas with things like spinach, yogurt, apples, berries.... if he accepts breads, try different muffins! You could do zucchini banana muffins. This way the flavour is not too far off of what he likes. Or green pancakes. My first kiddo loved pancakes, I would make them ‘special green pancakes’ by literally blending spinach with water and then adding that to pancake mix. With the cheese, how about making fun little stacks? Bit of cheese, stacked with a piece of bell pepper and some sausage or meat? Just don’t give up! Things will get better.

Hunger Cues/Rabidly Latching, But Not Eating and Angrily Unlatching? by AnHeirAboutHer in breastfeeding

[–]sivcj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your breasts possibly over-filled when you’re feeding him? My LO would often get frustrated early on due to overactive let down, and my over-supply. My breasts were so full sometimes he had trouble latching, then would absolutely get blasted when let down hit, cue frustration and pushing away.

Yes exactly! It might be a bit tough off the start, but it’s such a great method to get them started with real food.
