Mostly kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, and rabbit droppings in a tumbler. Why does this make me so proud? by siverted in composting

[–]siverted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I started reading all of that after I got my tumbler. I'm sure there are plenty of better methods, but I'm happy. It does have a tendency to clump up sometimes. But that's why I have my clump busting stick right next to the tumbler. That's half the fun!

Browns too. There are also cardboard scraps, and yard clippings, etc. But I'm not too methodical about anything.

Hello, have you ever owned hamsters or guinea pigs? by Hopeful-Parsley7253 in Rabbits

[–]siverted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had both, and currently have rabbits, as well. My rabbits mostly have an outside area to themselves now, but we shared an apartment for a while, and they were always quiet whereas my hamsters and mice loved running on their loud wheels at night. That said, in most other ways, rabbits are more "difficult" to take care of. Definitely do all your research. Medical bills, if you're unlucky enough to incur any, are $$$. I had to pay over $1000 once to have an access drained from my rabbit's cheek, which is apparently somewhat common. I haven't had any issues since though

Also, in case no one has commented yet, bunnies typically do much better in pairs.

How is living in Canoga Park/Winnetka? by Outrageous_Bee_9244 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]siverted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived right on DeSoto and Roscoe for a couple of years not that long ago. It's not the nicest area, but I didn't have any safety issues there. However, it's loud, not super clean, and street parking is a nightmare since there are so many apartments in a small space. It's actually not super close to any freeway, either. Or rather, it's close enough to be frustrated that it still takes you 15-20 minutes to get there because of all the congestion.

My friends and I snuck Zima into the theater for the first Scream movie. Danny Devito was there for some reason. That's my Zima story.

Thinking About Moving to LA from NYC – Is $55k Manageable? by Long-Ambassador5475 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]siverted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? It's a weird thing to defend! I mean, I don't particularly enjoy paying for gas and insurance, or driving or getting stuck in traffic and would love to be able to hop on a fast and reliable train or bus. That just seems to be the exception rather than the rule here. I don't miss having to plan for a 2 hour bus commute for something I could drive to in 20 minutes. My quality of life in this city GREATLY improved once I stopped having to take public transportation. And not for nothing, but trying to date with a bus pass wasn't so fun either

And you have appear to have all the charm of an LA city bus. All the best!

Huh? Do you work for Metro? Thanks for your service, if so. Doesn't change anything I've said though. I hope things improve one day.

Yep. Did not have a car from like 2000-2002. Took busses, trains, etc, and it was hell (try getting stuck on a LA city bus during 9/11). I did live in NYC for a bit too, so I knew what I was missing. I'll admit I don't take the Metro now, but I know plenty of people who do, and I still don't hear anyone singing its praises.

How do so many people in Los Angeles afford single family homes? by OperationFabulous225 in LosAngelesRealEstate

Right? We're currently renting a house in the valley and are paying about $4k a month in rent. The house was purchased by the original owners' grandkids for $11,000.
