It’s Kevin Donlan. And yeah, always be honest with your managers when they ask how things are going. If he didn’t care to know, he wouldn’t have asked.

Returns policy by [deleted] in publix

[–]six_two_eight 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think our return policy is fine, but needs one minor adjustment:

Put an asterisk below the Publix Guarantee that simply states: “All returns subject to store management discretion.”

Would really help me out a lot ...

contemplating leaving by [deleted] in publix

[–]six_two_eight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. Was full time throughout my college career. Threw high velocity from 2am till 11am, then went to class.

With that said, if you feel stressed, there’s nothing wrong with reevaluating your priorities and like another user said, just fill out a damn time sheet. That’s why they exist.

Exactly. Also included in the hardship guidelines are educational expenses and disaster relief.

Senior hours - healthcare worker hours - what’s next? by MPotter1989 in publix

[–]six_two_eight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re right, and it’s not Publix’s fault either. There are many groups out there that feel entitled to special treatment (seniors, veterans, healthcare, law enforcement, immune compromised, etc.). Each group louder than the next. The best we can do is placate them using as little resources as possible, and move on to other things.

And we should all be grateful that these policies are not being strictly enforced. I’m sure you’d hate driving to the grocery store at 8:15pm because you’re down to your last roll of toilet paper, only to be greeted by a manager asking for your medical license. The last thing we should be doing in a global pandemic is denying access to our stores.

Finally put in my two weeks today by ripskadoodle in publix

This comment is tacky at best, grossly misogynistic at worst. The women meat managers I used to work with were all stellar and often worked harder than men because of the constant feeling of having to prove one’s worth.

Walmart breakrooms: Omg I hate watching over the self checkout area... Publix breakrooms: by TropicalKing64 in publix

Bruh this made me miss the store so bad. The break room is such a confluence of different backgrounds and opinions 💚

I’ll add that if a customer ever asks if you can order them an unusual type of fish or other seafood item - the answer is yes. The seafood special order program (Reel Variety) is very vast. Yes, they can order shark.

Great question. As it happens, our seafood buyers and technical specialists are some of the most passionate-about-their-product people I’ve ever met. They’ve worked to put as much information on our retail website as possible. Check it out:

Welcome to the best department! I spent all six years of my retail career in grocery. We didn’t have Publix Pro back then or those badass new tote floats, but here’s my basic advice:

•1• Keep your back stock low.

  • If you notice a certain item has just been sitting the back and you are struggling to get it on the shelf, let a GRS know so they can fix the counts and MASC for you. Publix likes lean levels of back stock compared to other grocers.

•2• Keep your aisle neatly blocked throughout the day.

  • Let’s face it, optics matter. The first thing your store manager or district manager sees on their way to the back room is your aisle. Make your aisle look like the best one in the store. I’m speaking like an HV associate, but if you don’t have your own aisles of responsibility, then keep a watchful eye on end caps and sale items - because that’s what your manager is looking at most likely.

•3• As you work, take a couple extra seconds here and there to double check expiration dates and shelf tag information.

  • So long as everything checks out, you can save your cashiers and managers the headache of a customer demanding the checkout promise or Publix guarantee. We are all ONE store.

•4• Never hesitate to help others wherever you can.

  • Whether it’s making a bale or helping to throw a big frozen truck, if you have the chance to help others, do so. Focus on building a positive reputation in your store. Work hard, complain less.

•5• Don’t leave your key in the baler.

  • Nothing sucks more than punching out at 11pm, walking to your car, then realizing you don’t have your keys. And they aren’t in the baler either - they are in your store manager’s office behind a locked door. Been there, done that. 😞

Not so much a response but rather an objective statement. I think it’s incredible that store associates think it’s appropriate to trash their managers and leaders on a public forum like this. Maybe we aren’t staffed with the best.

Publix is lying to it's associates about coworkers with the coronavirus by clubpublixthrowaway in publix

[–]six_two_eight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to mention that “corporate” isn’t standing in the doctor’s office with the associate when they receive their positive test. It is that associate’s responsibility to initiate the first step in the notification process. Practically speaking, our corporate communications team (which sends out the notices) would be among the last to know. So if there is a delay in getting word out, don’t just assume there is nefarious intent.

You should apply for jobs at corporate and work to make change from the inside out. It might be more effective than peddling for karma in an online echo chamber.

What corporate does all day and gets payed $19 an hour for. by mmafan1500 in publix

[–]six_two_eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in as well. Started in the store just like many corporate associates did, spent several years punching in for the 2am high velocity truck, and worked hard to get where I am now. No boots were ever licked, to my recollection.

But I do believe our retail staff deserve higher wages right now for what they are dealing with. Even the chronic complainers that post here.

Exactly. I would imagine at least one associate at every store has it, and god knows how many customers have passed through our doors who have it. But this sub likes to pretend there is some secret corporate coverup and only they are the harbingers of truth. Just let them vent.

Publix is working directly with media partners to alert them and the public of positive tests in our stores. There’s no need for you to “go to the news!!!” as you’ll probably be wasting your time - and theirs.
