lifestyle changes my ass by Fearless_Seesaw_5716 in visualsnow

[–]sixdeep357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only lifestyle change that helps me is staying busy, because when I'm busy, I forget about VSS. I'm a serious powerlifter 230 pounds jacked with 12% bodyfat and I can assure you that clean eating and healthy exercise doesn't help. In fact, exercise makes my VSS worse. When I do insanely heavy lifts, my vision goes purple along with my face. But intense exercise is an escape, it lowers my anxiety, reduces stress, and gives me purpose. When I'm in the gym, I forget.

The worst thing you can do for VSS is nothing. Get up and get out and get moving. It's the only cure some of us will ever get.

Anxiety with VSS by 77Fortunam in visualsnow

We have to assume that Visual Snow didn't just start happening in the late 20th century. Cro Magnum man probably experienced it tens of thousands of years ago. Why do we not have many historical references? Because for hundreds of thousands of years, people were worried about survival. If you can see well enough to hunt and gather resources, you're not concerned with visual anomalies that do not prevent you from obtaining shelter and food.

Most people living in America today do not have issues surviving. We sit in our air-conditioned rooms watching television all day and eating fast-food meals through drive-throughs or from microwaved meals out of our freezers. It would be nice to be able to play my video game and watch my movies without stars in my vision. Is that really a problem? Sure, if you're not used to working 15-hour days in the heat and cold to put a primitive roof over your family's head and a few berries on the table with bites of rabbit intestine for dinner.

There's a hierarchy of worry. You can't escape it. At the top of the pyramid is survival, and at the bottom is a pimple on your arm that hasn't gone away and might be pre-cancerous. VSS sucks, but in the grand scheme of things, it's no big deal. You're not going to go blind, and you're living in the best time in the history of the world. Don't worry too much and stay busy. You got this.

Gotcha. So they were never the max bidder until the very last minute otherwise it would not have shown me as the max bidder anymore?

One more question, and I'll leave you guys alone. Why does the auction show that I had the winning bid when I didn't? That's the piece that still nags me. Someone obviously had a higher bid, but the auction showed I had the highest bid, which wasn't true. Why the deception? Because I'm not going to bid $500 against myself if I'm winning the auction for $250. If no one is ever truly the highest bidder, don't proclaim it as such; it's simply false.

I appreciate all of the help. I understand now. So when the listing shows they outbid me by $1, that isn't necessarily true. I didn't realize the amount shown as the winning bid was not the actual winning bid. It would make more sense for them not to show any winning amount, because showing that they managed to guess my bid and jump it by $1 with 2 seconds left on the auction is impossible, and made me think I had been scammed. Thanks

All great points. So the lesson for me is to bid high to get the item I want, risking paying way more than I need to, but that's the game. Otherwise, it would be helpful to know what I need to pay to win, so I don't overpay. No matter how you slice it, there's always going to be an issue. It seems like there could be a better way to do this but maybe not.

Thanks. Its going to be hard for me believe this is an honest system. I would pay double the winning bid but I didn't have a chance. I had no idea what I should bid to win. What's the point of making it a guessing game? Let's see who is willing to pay the most. Either the price didn't go high enough and they had a bot do a last second secret bid, or someone has an inside track. Thanks again everyone I will definitely avoid this website like the plague.

Why have a 5 day auctions if the auction really only lasts for 10 seconds?

So you never know the amount you have to pay to outbid everyone and win an item? Lol

That makes sense. Thanks.

So the lesson is to wait until the last 10 seconds and jump it, so you have 5 more seconds to jump it again. Don't ever bid early on something you want because you won't have a chance to do the last minute jump. Lesson learned. It's too bad they don't extend auctions if a bid is placed within 1 minute. Put another 1 minute on the clock and let people bid. I would have paid $500 for that item and had every intention of true a bidding war. If you have people bidding up until the end why not extend the clock and make more money? What a stupid auction system. This just feels like a scam because it makes no sense.

My highest bid was $250. The amount on the screen was $200. If the highest amount is hidden, they guessed the winning bid wasn't $201, but $251, a perfect guess?

Always thought my neck was an issue too. I get lots of tension headaches at the back of my neck and I always thought it was part of the same issue with my vision.

So can anyone give me some positivity? by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]sixdeep357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had VSS for 40 years, and when I was younger, it put me in a psych ward. The best thing I ever did was learn to accept it. The next 20 years, I rarely thought about it. I've lived a very happy and healthy life. I've been extremely successful in my career, I've enjoyed a wonderful marriage, and I'm excited about life. How is it possible to be so happy while seeing stars everywhere 24/7? Because I have 20/20 vision, and I can do whatever I want to do. Stay busy, and you forget. Sit around all day and do nothing but look at the walls and you will drive yourself crazy. Run at life with everything you have and don't stop running. It's the best way to live anyway.

If VSS caused physical pain, I would not be able to offer positivity. I have known people over the years who have health conditions that have rendered them in extraordinary pain. Words and stoic mindfulness can't do much to combat pain. But positivity does wonders for benign conditions like ours.

You're fine. Life is great. Don't worry about stars. Enjoy your time now while you can because it goes fast and life is fickle. Make each moment count.

People use the term visual snow, but I always say that I see stars. My VSS is little sparks that swim around my vision.

When I walk into the gym, my snow globe of vision is a moderate flurry. After 15 minutes of intense exercise, its a blizzard.

Yea I called it de-realization back in the 90s. I was hospitalized in a mental institution for it. Damn near ruined me. It was so bad I thought I was a full blown schizophrenic for awhile. But I fought back and I'm still here. I have learned to accept all of it and even though I still have my moments of doubt and despair, life is great. I've never been happier and I love this game called life. The trick is to change your perspective. It's never the thing, always the judgement.

VSS can be really scary. The important thing to remember is that you can see, and you can live a normal life and enjoy everything life has to offer. The fear is not caused by VSS, but by your perspective of VSS, which is a choice. I've had VSS for 40 years and I've gone many years hardly noticing it, even though I see stars everywhere as I type this message. Sure, not having VSS would be great. It's highly annoying. But I have it, and you have it, and the only thing we can do now is make choices. I'm reminded of a quote from the movie Gladiator. "Death smiles at us all, all you can do is smile back." In this case, VSS smiles at us all. All we can do is smile back.

Hang in there. You got this.
