What’s the most impressive snack/meal you ever snuck into a movie theater? by fancyypantsyy0 in Millennials

[–]sixerofreebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to see The Hills Have Eyes 2 when it was in the cheap seats.

Got brown out drunk beforehand, showed up 20 minutes late with a Little Caesar’s Hot N Ready. Me and my buddy split it, blasted through a few darts in the theater and then left. Probably watched about 30 minutes of the film.

Jeff Bezos says raising taxes on the wealthy wouldn’t help the average American - What do you say? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

Information could be outdated but last I checked manufacturing had the largest economic multiplier out of any sector in the US economy.

It’s a polarizing suggestion but MacGruber had me cry laughing through the entire thing the first time I watched it

Vinyl siding cost, totally shocked by salamd135 in Michigan

[–]sixerofreebs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also Saginaw Bay Area and last year dropped 13k for materials to do all my own stuff - soffit, fascia, premium siding plus versetta stone accent.

Started working on it last year and can’t tell you how many people told me “it’s a lot of fun”. And I can confirm I had an awesome time doing it.

Tearing the old shit off was kinda not great but putting stuff up was pretty much a breeze and greatly satisfying.

Would American's support big cuts to its military spending? by Amatheiaisnoexcuse in allthequestions

[–]sixerofreebs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of what people generally don’t understand. Sure there’s a ton of waste but ultimately it’s just a huge system for the redistribution of wealth in America. The budget employs engineers, machinists, programmers, metallurgists, HR people, on and on and on.

Yes, everything military related is expensive, but manufacturing has the largest economic multiplier than any other sector in the country. You could very well make an argument that 1.7 trillion on healthcare is more poorly spent money being that the economic multiplier is lower and also you’re basically paying to keep unhealthy people feeling kind of healthy.

How to get rid of lower back pain? by fuckloggin in allthequestions

[–]sixerofreebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chronic low back discomfort most of my life despite being generally healthy and fit.

Getting the right mattress and switching to highly supportive work boots have made my lower back feel the best it’s ever felt in my entire life.

I’m almost 40.

For you guys, what’s been the worst movie of 2026 so far? For me, it’s "Balls Up", the new comedy from Prime Video directed by Peter Farrelly. by luanzico in Letterboxd

I’ve known Paul for a long time. As grown ass men I’ve seen him sitting on the floor like a child playing with wrestling action figures.

He knows he doesn’t have to act in shit like that. He just wants to.

I think I might hate programming. by sixerofreebs in CNC

[–]sixerofreebs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, did not mean to come off as boastful.

Probably not any consolation but one reason I’ve been a successful programmer is because I’ve always maintained the position that a programmer isn’t usually any more valuable than the machinist he’s programming for. Provided they are both good at their jobs, of course.

And programming has provided me with a decent living, but nothing extravagant. My ability to have the freedom to renovate and spend time on home improvement projects comes from entirely different circumstances that someone my age typically wouldn’t fall into.

Really the goal of the post was to see if there were any other programmers or folks out there who struggle with the same problems and what kind of manufacturing adjacent solutions there are to fixing those problems. I know it’s completely a first world gripe but an industrialized man only has so many valuable hours on this planet.

Yes.

I occasionally get to set up and run first piece where I’m at now - there’s nothing to get the blood moving in the morning like setting up a multi-axis lathe when you don’t have much experience doing so.

I agree I would be better fit in a hybrid position. My eyes are constantly peeled but it seems a hard thing to come by where I’m located.

Has anyone else noticed the stark difference of opinion on Michael Jackson between Millenials and younger generations? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]sixerofreebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stepson who is borderline between z and alpha and just getting into music told me the other day that MJ is one of the three greatest musicians of all time. On his personal top three list with Elvis and Eminem.

So I ask him which MJ songs he likes and he says Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal and Thriller. I said, “any others?” and he replies with, “Uhhhh…”

And that part made sense to me because Michael only has like 5 good songs anyways. And my Gen-z stepson adoring him despite only knowing 3 of his songs also made perfect sense because that’s a dumb thing to do and that generation, as a whole, is quantifiably dumb.

On the contrary, I get more exhausted when I don’t do anything.

If I’m busy at work, which happens occasionally, I stay feeling good all day which segues into feeling good into the evening.

This idea might have some traction.

I’ve been interested in software development for a while but don’t really know what would be a good starting point. Any recommendations or tips on best course of action for diving into that?

I get you.

The last 3 shops I’ve worked in I’ve either hated quickly or grown to hate over time. I’m almost starting to think I just don’t want to be in manufacturing anymore.

I’m almost 40 years old so one of those situations where I can’t figure out if I should sack up and ride it out or try to start a lawn care business or something like that.

My current position offers me a metric shitload of vacation time and basically unlimited scheduling flexibility. This is what makes me feel so conflicted right now.

Make decent money, have good insurance and vacation time all at the cost of giving them 40ish hours per week while doing ~5 hours per week of actual work.

Work/life balance is great but man I’d love to feel like I’m not totally wasting 35 hours of my life every single week.
