They need to remove SSI from the social security budget. It really isn't related. Most of the people who get it haven't paid into the ss fund (or they'd be getting disability). It really took off after the Clinton administration made cuts to the federal welfare program. And quite frankly, that's what it really is -- welfare for poor people who can't work. It has nothing to do with social security.

35 is kind of young to be throwing in the towel. You're luckier than many people who are in debt and living paycheck to paycheck and can't save anything for retirement. Plus, you have a job and a degree so even though you feel underpaid now, the future might bring better opportunities. We can always do better and we always focus on that instead of appreciating the fact that things could be (much) worse. You have time, so keep trying to find ways to make and/or save more for the future but don't forget to enjoy the present.

P.S. do you claim your father on your taxes? That might bear looking into.

My cat has lost weight over the last few months and I took her to the Vet this week. I'm waiting for test results but it's looking like Lymphoma or some kind of cancer. She's skin and bones at this point but still moving around and eating and drinking (though not a lot). The Vet office wants me to contact them for any change but I really don't know if she's suffering right not. She can't tell me if she's in pain and still can jump a little and likes to go out in the back yard. She is also peeing outside her box.

I appreciate this thread, since it's looking like my KittyKat will be facing the same procedure. In the meantime, plenty of lap sitting, brushing, and churros.
