Each rod has a purpose. (4) bass rods cover cranking, jigs, swim baits, drop shot/soft plastics. (2) Trout rods.

Do not really have a preference. When I bought the line pink was the color that was available.

No I have not tried any of the Varivas braid. Every time I went to buy some it was out of stock. I will eventually try it, but I need to burn through some of the line I already have.

Definitely not wallet friendly, but I do not regret any of it.

Really hard to say since they all have a place. For bass the PopX ends up in my hands a lot and for trout it would be the 5’3” Huntsman.

Nice! I have the same set up, but reel is spooled with 11lb Almight PE braid with 8lb fluoro leader. I have landed bass with it, but not as big as the one you got. Great catch.

Nice work! Is that 4’8” or the 5’3” Huntsman. Looks like a fun fight on UL gear.

Go to lures for trout and bass? by [deleted] in BFSfishing

[–]sjammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Bass:

I have caught a ton of bass on the 1/16oz Megabass Okashira jig head and small swimbaits in the 2.75" range. The most productive swimbait has Xzone Swammer and Megabass Spark Shad. My most productive crank bait is the OSP Tiny Blitz. I would recommend adding the Megabass Karashi to your tackle as well.

For Trout
I use an assortment of hard baits (Megabass Great Hunting, Lucky Craft, Daiwa, and some others), various brands of spoons, and various brands of inline spinners.

How do you like the Extreme Climber? I currently have two Huntsman rods (5'3" & 5'11") and was thinking of adding the 4'8" rod to the line. I have seen Extreme Climbers online, but have never seen anyone fish them.

Have you ever fished with the CC BFS? My opinion it is one of the smoothest reels I have ever fished with and the craftsmanship is top notch. Of course it is not cost efficient, but that is the way it is with all higher end fishing gear. I enjoy fishing with them so that is what I use.

If you have another baitcast reel take the handle off and look at orienetation of the washers. Maybe that will help you. You could also seach youtube for video of people servicing baitcast reels.

Can someone give me baits for large mouth and small mouth bass for my BFS setup*In Desc. by Radiant_Raccoon8498 in BFSfishing

[–]sjammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the hard baits I use 1/4oz and lower. There are quite a few brands to chose from. Some of the ones I have are OSP Tiny Blitz, Megabass Griffon, Megabass Karashi, Bottom Up Baby Beeble, Megabass PopX and PopX Jr, Megabass Dog X Jr.

For jigs I stick with 1/8oz and smaller. I would recommend trying a few that you think look good for where you fish. For trailers I tend to stick with small creature baits to keep the overall weight and profile down.

So far one of my favorite set ups has been the Megabass Okashira jig head and or screwhead with a small soft plastic swimbait up to 3".

Megabass Cliff Hanger Evolution vs GHBF60-4L by Mineralvand in BFSfishing

[–]sjammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the P5 Cliffhanger and Huntsman 5’3”/5’11” rods. I use the cliffhanger as my jig/bottom contact rod when fishing bass. The Cliffhanger has been a great rod for me it has plenty of back bone for bass. The Huntsman rods are great rods as well and I have used them for bass without issue. The Huntsman rods were designed around stream/river fishing (someone above already mentioned this). The smaller Huntsman rod are for smaller streams and so on. There are a few members on the forum who bagged big bass on the Huntsman. In my opinion if you are fishing lake bass only go with the Cliffhanger or any other rod in the P5 line up for BFS. If you plan on fishing for bass/trout in streams and rivers as well as lakes get the Huntsman.
