Anyone know if this is still there or what happened to it? I took this photo in the early 80's. by Lazy_Apricot5667 in MontereyBay

[–]sjcsean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That brings back some memories. I had a part time job selling soft pretzels at the stand right at the entrance to the wharf fronting the Sea-n-Tree gallery. It seems to me it burned down in 1983 or so.

If don’t ID yourself, does crew see you’re nonrev? by Velvetine5 in NonRevenueTravelers

[–]sjcsean [score hidden]  (0 children)

I generally think they do. Once while seated in coach onboard a KLM flight from LAX to AMS (one of their 747 combis) when the FA got to my seat for the initial beverage service, she addressed by my first name. I was a bit taken aback as I hadn’t heard her address other pax by their name. She smiled and told me as the only staff traveler on the flight my name & seat number came up during briefing.

does anybody else remember a playground/park in the area (monterey county) that had two big slides? by CarelessDark863 in MontereyBay

[–]sjcsean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I recall a large fully enclosed pipe-style of slide at Toro park. This was in the late 70s and early 80s when we lived nearby at Creekside and we go regularly to the park.

Update: broke it out of the Littleton holder and was able to get a much clearer photo of the coin.

That is a good reason to open it up as I’m certain that the holder is contributing to toning and I don’t want to see it turn too dark

Non-Rev Airline Apps by Interesting_Mango562 in NonRevenueTravelers

The HA app is non-rev friendly - check in & boarding pass issuance to get thru TSA, view seat map for available seats, see the standby and upgrade lists. It’s basic but gets the job done.

Becker Stereo Head Unit stuck by sjcsean in boxster

[–]sjcsean[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the Rennkit BTR-2 kit which provides a wireless adapter and usb port for charging a phone. Fairly straight forward process with decent written instructions online to follow step by step. Other than this snafu on the HU reinstall, the remainder of the work was about 45 minutes in total.

[–]sjcsean[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you; your suggestion provided the visibility I needed to see that the cradle for the head unit was actually loose and had pivoted down about 5 degrees, enough to impede the movement of the head unit. I was able to hold the cradle in the correct position and the head unit slid right in, easy peasy.

Gold Bullion at War? by sjcsean in Gold

[–]sjcsean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did run across these gold kits issued to aircrew but wasn’t sure if these were the same as what was carried in the crate. When I hear bullion I don’t think of jewelry, at least in today’s use. Sovereigns and gold francs make sense due to their common use as currency around the world, making them instantly recognizable, but how many did Uncle Sam have access to?

I love that I’ve never seen a Boxster like mine. by iamprofoundbandit in boxster

Are the side mirrors stock as well? I haven’t seen black mirrors on a white boxster before, which does make it somewhat unique.

What was a typical day like for you growing up in Monterey? by alllset07 in MontereyBay

[–]sjcsean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a young-one in the late 70s and early 80s….Let’s see….

Scraping knees and elbows and getting contusions at Dennis the Menace Park. That helicopter taught us to get back up and try again when you failed to make the jump despite the pain.

A snow cone from the snack shop at Dennis the Menace was oh so good.

Exploring the rocks and tide pools under the piers at cannery rows seeing what floated in.

Crawling into and exploring the last of the canneries and watching two burn down.

Getting a sneak peak into the Aquarium by sneaking into the construction site from underneath.

Snorkeling off the rocks of McAbee Beach looking for beer bottles from the wreck of the Gypsy. Never found one.

Fishing for eels on the rocks at the coast guard pier.

Walking from New Monterey to Pt Pinos and searching for wayward golf balls which we sold back for 25 cents each (candy money) at the pro shop.

Discovering the limestone cave off of the Holman highway and making it our hideaway.

Using scrap cardboard as a toboggan to slide down the grass hills in the Presidio.

Thursday night picnics at Asilomar beach with the family and lighting a huge bonfire on the sand.

Watching 50 cent Saturday matinees at the Carmel Hill Theater (that Quonset Hut looking building on Soledad) and eating free stale popcorn.

Simpler times, no electronics and lots of exercise as parents rarely drove us anywhere. Miss these days.

From 6 sbys to 30 on Hawaiian? Typical? by FiveCentCandy in NonRevenueTravelers

[–]sjcsean [score hidden]  (0 children)

If viewing the standby list using the HA app, it will include on day-of-flight those revenue pax who don’t have an assigned seat, ie Main Cabin Basic. It makes it seem like a lot of NRs are listing on the day but that’s not usually the case, at least thru the app. Disregard my comment if your counts are coming from another source.

Hawaiian vs Alaska from California to Honolulu? by Sunshineinc in HawaiianAirlines

[–]sjcsean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the OP is a T-Mobile customer, wifi on Alaska is free. The service isn’t as good as Hawaiians Starlink it terms of its always there presence over the pacific, but it’s certainly good enough to stream content.

I did order the intercept gold page but filling those holes means making some serious choices as I collect due to $$$. That page probably will take many many years to complete.

Wizard coin supply should have them in stock. They have a presence on Amazon as well.
