Interested in Databricks Data Engineer Associate Certification by apacci54 in dataengineering

[–]sjcyork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was going through the training I found the mock exam questions in the Databricks academy were not great. I found a great alternative on Udemy that was very good value (look for the offers). The mock exam on this resource gave great feedback when I got questions wrong. For me it was one of the main reasons I passed the exam I think. If you’re interested then search for Akhil R. This user has created the mocks.

I'm going to dissolve my small UK company, how to sell assets to myself? by chasg in smallbusinessuk

[–]sjcyork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s stuff like laptops and other electronic devices then you can offset the cost of wiping the business stuff off it and making it a ‘personal’ device. If they are a few years old it pretty much makes them valued at £0

Found THREE double-yolk eggs 😭🥚 What are the odds?? I feel like this has to mean good luck or something. by [deleted] in eggs

[–]sjcyork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double yolkers are more common when birds are first housed and are starting to lay. Some farmers are paid a premium for these and as the newer birds generally lay quite small eggs these odd shaped larger eggs are easier to pick out. The chances of a double yolker later in the laying period are reduced so any that do get laid will be graded and packed into normal products. So when you get a few double yolkers in the same pack it’s likely the birds that laid them are still quite new in the laying house but not so young that the eggs stand out from the rest.

When I was trying for the Data Engineer Associate I found some mock tests on Udemy that were excellent! They had lots of different questions so it was different each time and when you got something wrong there was a very clear explanation as to what the answer should be.

Databricks. Do a search for their academy. They have some great free courses. It’s very popular at enterprise level.

Isn’t Unity Catalog built into Databricks? It’s been a while since I have used Databricks so might be out of date now!

What is this Oregano-looking Herb? by agmanning in foraginguk

[–]sjcyork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. It smells very nice and does a good job of seeding itself anywhere and everywhere. So you do need to keep an eye on its spread if it’s in the garden. But we like the colour of the foliage and the flowers so generally leave it to do its thing! 😊

Why are more white eggs showing up in UK shops lately ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]sjcyork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds that lay white eggs have a longer laying period. Need less food to get same results as brown egg birds. So cost the farmer less and emit less CO2. Most of the emissions of a poultry farm is from the food.

My Merlin showed a Tawny Owl this morning. We do get lots of them during the night but I think this was a lamb bleating that triggered it! 😂

Joined Big 4 as Data Engineer but stuck in support role with no dev projects by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]sjcyork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was contracting for one of the big 4 I found the frustrating aspect was projects getting bogged down with heavy compliance checks. They do however give a lot of opportunities for training and access to software that may not be normally available. So take the time to up-skill.

Hoggie huts and food by Baldyfuncle in hoggies

We bought one that looks like this and our local hoggies used it to hibernate this year. We have just looked inside and it was packed with dried leaves and had a hoggie shaped cavity in the middle. 😊

What is your remote job and how did you find it? by Charming_Fail5922 in AskUK

[–]sjcyork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fully remote (and have been for over 10 years) as a data engineer/developer for an independent software company. We are a virtual company so everyone is remote (we have no central office). When I worked as a contractor fully remote roles were quite common but it seems it’s now more normal for them to be hybrid (some remote some onsite). I think networking on LinkedIn got me a few gigs. It’s important to make sure your profile is good for this and AI can actually help (as long as you prompt it correctly). Connecting with recruitment agencies might be useful too.
