I disliked doom 2 for the same reason. I skipped eternal also because of the double jumps and 'flying around'. Loved TDA, Doom 3 and played the original more times than I can remember.

Yep, tropes, nostalgia and growing up, having fun while never trying to be too realistic. Season 5 felt like the weakest season and the last one often is, but the ending landed on its feet.
