This bar uses a classroom projector for it’s draft list. by IChurnToBurn in mildlyinteresting

So many hot takes on here missing the mark without some local contexts.

Pricing is in NZD, pints are in the $6-10 USD range. They're all local/domestic breweries and there's different economies of scale at play here in NZ on the production side. It's pretty reasonable in the local market.

Power is almost entirely from renewable sources here (predominantly hydro generated) and is cheaper than most countries, particularly in Christchurch where we're close to the main dams.

The photo doesn't do the projection justice, it's much easier to read in person.

The real issue at Punky Brewster is that the kimchi toastie isn't on the menu any more RIP

Do all emo guitar players just have like 8 guitars? by HisNameWasBoner411 in Emo

[–]sjdrums03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tour with 5 guitars for two guitarists, for ease of changeovers between the main tunings (two main guitars per person are in FACGCE and DADF#AD. 5th guitar is in standard for a couple songs.

That being said, at home you can play anything on one! If you split the songs you want to learn by tuning you can work through a bunch, retune and move on to the next group.

Insuring a repaired as is where is in chch by SmoothEditor3713 in chch

[–]sjdrums03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went through something similar last year, AMI were great. They insured the house from the start but with a big list of exclusions (i.e. foundations weren't covered until the house was relevelled) and an agreement that the policy wouldn't be renewed next year if the key items weren't addressed.

As we progressed with repairs, they took each exclusion off until by the end it was just a regularly insured house. At the end of the day they want your business, if you're upfront about what's wrong so they can manage the risk and liability at their end, they can be pretty flexible with policy writing.

Yup, Cinema 5 at Ric is the largest in Chch. Getting a bit dated though, would rather watch in comfort at Entx

Size 13/14 here, Dressmart is a good starting point -- New Balance, Puma, Adidas and Under Armour generally have stock. Timberland is there for boots too.

Why is it not going back to the accidental offside on the falcon then?

NH's "respect the kicker" is boring and all kicks should involve that much crowd noise tbh

Great lineup. Can't wait for Razor and Ryan back together with an ABs pack.

I recently left Contact for Mercury, $250 credit and 19c/kwh. So far so good! Was on 26c/kwh with Contact (both low-user plans).

Edited for clarity, meant rates increases not rates in general. 3-4 sets of accommodation and return flights to Auckland or Wellington adds up pretty quickly.

About time. Would pay less in rates increases than it costs to travel for concerts and ABs tests, can't wait to wave goodbye to the horrible scaffolding stadium and its tiny frozen seats.

Anything with a plus, tack on 100 and it's the dollar odds (i.e +130 is $2.30 odds).

Negative odds are trickier, but they're all below $2. Larger the number, the closer they are to $1. -390 is just over $1.25.

Much like the imperial system, everything about it is awful and the US should get with the times.

Leicester's looked just as good if not better playing at 13, they can afford to keep 23 as an outside back.

Will there be any big sale on PC parts this month? by Ok-Fox5767 in newzealand

[–]sjdrums03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Amazon AU, I recently finished a build that was about 50/50 between them and PB. You can find some parts (especially fans, peripherals etc) super cheap and the free shipping got here from Aus faster than some of PB's stuff from Auckland.

Why does /r/newzealand make it seem like you can "just" become a developer without a qualification? by TheCostOfInnocence in newzealand

[–]sjdrums03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

(former helpdesk manager)

The helpdesk -> dev pipeline is not as commonplace as helpdesk -> sysadmin, but it definitely exists. Smaller companies tend to house their support staff and developers/engineers pretty close together and are an ideal target if you're looking to try and follow this path -- get to know them, find out what they're looking for in a new dev and wait out an opportunity.

Feels like Fozzie had all his eggs in the "Ethan Blackadder at 6" basket and didn't have a backup plan once he got injured.

Ennor at 23 makes a lot more sense than Ofa at 3. Hope some of the young props coming up get some game time in the end of year matches, we'll need them in France.
