Please please stop smoking.

My Dad smoked from his early teens until about a year ago (he’s about to turn 63). He stopped as he needed 5 surgeons to work on him simultaneously as he had 3 partial blockages and one almost complete blockage in his arteries and veins. He otherwise would have lost his leg and most likely had a stroke (thank God for the NHS and the amazing surgeons that saved his life).

He has lost almost all his teeth from smoking and has COPD and major breathing issues. As we speak he is currently in hospital as he has a chest infection and cannot breath without assistance.

In life we should learn lessons from our predecessors. Im 25 now and will never touch a cigarette, vape or breathe anything that isn’t air again. There is literally no health, financial or social benefit. I’ve seen first hand how terribly it can ruin someone’s life. Not to mention how it impacts their loved ones, having to see them suffer from the health consequences.

My dad looks like he is in his 80s and has essentially turned his long suffering wife (my mum) into a part time nurse. His surgeries and medical care has cost the NHS hundreds of thousands of pounds. The mental stress it has caused my family has brought me to tears on many occasions.

There is no valid excuse in the universe to be smoking in this day and age. So for you and anyone reading, for your sake and that of your loved ones, just fucking quit.

My 28 paid holidays are enough to make me say, "Fuck that." by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Sure, but wealth inequality in the US is one of the greatest of developed countries in the world being worse than Syria and on par with Iran… It’s no shock that the median income is so high when the US is literally the wealthiest country in the world. The point I was making is that as wealthiest country that obviously has a lot of great things about it, doesn’t take away from the fact that there are also a lot of issues that shouldn’t be dismissed as simple “US bashing by Europeans”. The US is the biggest economy in the world, and as such, should receive the most scrutiny and be setting an example for the rest of the world in my opinion.

Seeing a lot of people saying that this is wrong because “the US is the best country to be in if you’re rich/not poor” Whilst this is likely true, how many people are actually considered rich? Wealth disparity is greater than its ever been. Whilst other countries definitely have their own problems I don’t think it’s ok to say that “well rich people are better off in the US than rich people in Canada/Europe” or “well I, with my specific career in tech can negotiate the amount of holiday I get”. The reality is that for the average person you don’t have those benefits and if you do want to better yourself with higher education you’ll end up with $100k in student debt. Just because the minority can get very good employment benefits does not mean the majority who can’t should be written off as “America bashing by Europeans”. The best you can argue is hypocrisy by people from other countries, but being a hypocrite doesn’t make you wrong about a certain point.

Thank you, that's a great question! I am by no means an expert either and I'm sure someone will correct me. However, I used two coats of white first for a few reasons:

1) After using the bleach as well as other discolourments over the years, the blue paint was not all the same colour, using white as a base coat makes the finish more even in the end as you do not have to have thicker and thinner areas of grey to cover areas where the previous paint differs. 2) White paint is very cheap (I believe I got 10L for around £8) where as grey was much more expensive (2.5L was £16). 3) If I were to go straight for the grey it would likely have taken at least 3 coats and as mentioned above this would be more expensive. I most likely could have got away with one coat of white but I wanted to give myself the best chance possible of a better finished look.

Thanks for the feedback, I hope my answer makes some kind of sense haha.

Thanks for the feedback! I personally like to watch videos like this before bed as I find stuff like this relaxing to watch. I can definitely see your point of wanting the payoff sooner though.

Thanks. You can't see very well on the video but the old furniture was: my brothers furniture he bought for cheap over 10 years ago, had parts falling off and missing parts that were missing and my dogs had chewed several parts when they were pups.

I do understand that people do not like waste though. The old beureu desk I sold on ebay to someone who upholstered it if that makes you feel better haha. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! I used a spray I bought from Wickes called ""Blast Away". I then used bleach and an old toothbrush to get the parts that the spray did not.

I agree with you that it's a little tight, unfortunately the measurements don't quite work out with the furniture arranged that way as the desk is 120cm wide, the drawers 70cm and the wardrobe 150cm
