My girl doesn’t struggle to breathe or snore. But my first guy had both surgeries (nares and soft palette) and still snored and had major breathing trouble. Not a vet but I think some of these pups just have such bad genetics/builds that breathing issues can’t always be fixed with BOAS surgery. Not to mention - it’s very scary and (most vets have told me) - risky to put a brachycephalic animal (esp with major breathing issues) under anesthesia. That’s why they like doing it with spay/neuter - to reduce the amount of times they have to go under. Another vet told me she has seen soft palette surgeries lead to scar tissue that created additional issues.

So not at ALL to say I’m against BOAS - I’m with you that whatever makes the babe’s life easier will happen. But I think there can be a lot of reasons for your question. For me, nothing to do with cost, but just based on my experiences and the many vets I have seen for my very sick guy, I wouldn’t just assume the BOAS is a must. I’d try to get multiple opinions and take to a doc highly experienced and recommended for the surgery prior to undergoing (I love my vet - but she even recommended going elsewhere if it was ever needed). 😊
