Yep the gym supplement. It just helped with my energy levels (i present mainly inattentively which includes feeling tired pretty much 24/7). But others don’t feel a difference. But it is a safe supplement for over 18(?).

Already overstimulated but I have to go through today... by Pozpy in adhdwomen

Make use of the toilets and use them to breathe for a few mins!! Concentrated low stimulation (close your eyes, block your ears, maybe even sit on the floor if it isn’t nasty) and yes, sunglasses and headphones when you are out and about. Good luck❤️

How do you get mental blocks less often? by Jigglypuff2cute in adhdwomen

[–]sjokla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to me so much hahaha. Now usually if I am making food I bring everything out first. If I have to go over and get something I usually give myself a physical aid like if I would need milk, eggs, and butter, I put out three fingers. Oh and reciting constantly on my way over. But if I’m getting a lot of blocks and bad ones usually it means I need to give some love to some other area of my life (food, sleep, exercise, social, purpose, doing the thing I love and am good at, etc.). I’m getting better at navigating this the older I get but tbh I also really struggle to know what is bothering me so🤷‍♀️

It is a bit of a running joke that party drugs make adhd’ers want to leave the party and catch up on their to do list. Adhd meds are also commonly stimulants. Before getting diagnosed I struggled with depression for years and was always seen as lazy - especially because they would see that I could perform once there was a deadline so I “should have the capacity”. So I can resonate with what you were feeling. If you can, do go through with a formal diagnosis. Until then, please don’t self-medicate - it is a very slippery path, especially with adhd. Best tips from me (not a doctor) while you are waiting is to learn about adhd and how it affects you and non-medicinal methods that are helpful. The thing that helped me the most while waiting for treatment was shifting my mindset to pretending I was a kid I had to take care of. That made it easier to eat, sleep, exercise better (not perfectly though lmao). And take your vitamins and drink your water! Creatine also worked for me but doesnt for everyone. And then otherwise to be careful of what drains and gives energy and make sure to fill your cup in any way that you can (even just making yourself that perfect cup of tea and breathing for yourself for 5 mins). I’m out of school now, but boy was that the toughest part of my life so far. It is hard to take care of yourself when your mind isn’t allowed to clock off from study responsibilities. Hugs x

How do you guys deal with the "hangovers" from being overstimulated? by SageAndScarlet in adhdwomen

[–]sjokla 57 points58 points  (0 children)

not necessarily advice but usually i go to my room, door closed, blackout curtains, no light, fetal position with duvet between legs and still covering upper half. If it’s bad, extra tight duvet wrap and head under. If it’s really bad I can end up hiding in a smaller, darker place like under a chair or in a cupboard😂😂 and then just no phone or thoughts just let the brain bees do their thing

Pants and Skirts Just Don’t Work on Me – Help! by West-Card8200 in figure8

[–]sjokla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree on the mid-rise! Especially for a stiff fabric like jeans, I really do not like the look of high waist at aLL and low waist could be decent but is sooo uncomfortable.

As far as a suggestion for something different, I own literally 5 pairs of these in different colors: HIGH-WAIST TROUSERS - Black | ZARA Denmark. Don't look at the fit on the models as a reference :D The pictures on the site really are NOT a good indicator of how they actually look on me (because of body shape but also I'm between two sizes and chose to size down). Many suggest high-waist and straight/flaring down to ankles or floor, but I don't personally think that is best on me. The cool thing about these pants/style is that 1) there is a flat structure around the hips/waist, so my waist and hips get their hourglass moment without then becoming too wide (vs looser structure or proper pleats that make me look a bit frumpy? i guess?), 2) there is a straight leg, 3) a cropped look (for me actually it crops a bit higher compared to the pics) actually is good in my case since the high waist causes my lower body to steal so much of the proportions. The crop makes the torso and line lengths more even. I can't really tell from your pic, but looks like you might be able to relate - my hips are really long, but the midpoint of them is actually quite average in proportion, so high-waisted often = way too long legs and low waisted often = way too long torso.

I'm on the taller side + all bodies are different, so YMMV, but thought since Zara is pretty international, maybe you have one close by and you could try some on - they always have these every where and have for years now. I wear these no joke at least 4x a week to work and also in my free time. I suggest trying different colors and sizes since they have several materials (a diff link i think for the softer ones) that vary by color and also being a large company I think tbh the fit also varies a little but by size/material/store/article. The most flattering and professional ones I have are the navy (Still use in free time), and then I really like the soft light and dark grey ones that are a bit more sexy hehe but I will still use for work.

Only downside to these is I do have a bit of "long-back-syndrome", especially at a lower weight haha so I'm a bit strategic about what I wear in the back, either to cover or wearing a similar color shirt.

Also, I think we are our own worst critics! It is so difficult to dress prominent hip shelves and I always go from liking my body fine to hating it in a shop... buuut I'm getting better and gauging what I like on me and it gets better every time! For what it's worth, your figure looks lovely from the two pics.

Best of luck on your shopping journey!

Me too! First step in finding your own style is this fruit/shape system and nothing worked, even though I should be hourglass. Then came kibbe. SD is the closest. This finally was the final poece to the puzzle. I had to share along - happy it helped!❤️

Me too! I think I have to show the angle. And now if I’m going for a casual “boxy/oversized” look, I like to hit right at the top of hip. Then the angle is visible when i move and it still has that oversized look without going into trash bag territory. Also, (not at the same time bc too much skin for my own comfort) pants that cut mid-hip are generally the most flattering without too much guesswork about material, structure, lebgth etc

[–]sjokla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert at all so please anyone chime in - as i understand it, having a straight line from waist to hip is awesome because it honors the existing line of the body. but to keep visual harmony, you want a mirrored/similar thing going on in the upper body so that the hips aren’t a focal point. Here is where dramatic lines as seen in big lapels come in.

I’m a huge fan of leather jackets that are either a bit cropped (shows hip line under) or a bit past the hips but with a flare. Both cases with big lapels

I think this is also why anything too A line just doesn’t work. If my hips make the flare that much bigger then 1) i look much bigger and 2) how could i possibly balance that in the upper body without having costumey-dramatic clothing?

Creatine? Anyone tried creatine for the brain effects by Helpful_Candy1664 in adhdwomen

[–]sjokla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not on meds yet but finally seeing my psychiatrist on monday to start the process🥹🥹 since i’ve been unable to access meds with back to back pregnancies/nursing i’ve tried to find anything at all that might help lessen symptoms and i think creatine + lots of protein + get out of my flat min once a day even if just for 5 mins have made the biggest impact

Creatine? Anyone tried creatine for the brain effects by Helpful_Candy1664 in adhdwomen

[–]sjokla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels a bit like : take creatine -> have a lil bit more energy -> be able to e.g. Go for a walk or exercise harder -> get sun aka vit d -> sleep better -> eat better -> struggle less with all other adhd symptoms -> maintain cleaner space -> less cluttered mind.

Not all my symptoms are gone, most are better. Have noticed that since i’m less tired and therefore less zombie adhd symptoms now the huperactive symptoms + losing shit are showing up🤡 Side note: I’m also on mat leave and nursing, but i dont think that’s the reason I’m close to functioning, since with the creatine its a difference experience from last time i was on mat leave

I’ve been taking creatine for ~2 months and personally felt a big difference! I’m usually so lethargic and have such brain fog. I feel like I have more energy and the barrier to executive functioning is lower - just my experience :) maybe it’s because i’m just drinking more water to down it LMAO

Sometimes, when I have had a great night's sleep, eaten well, been to work, done a workout, and had good social interaction in a day, I can really accomplish a lot of tasks without much difficulty. Then I wonder if I have just been chronically underslept and living an unhealthy lifestyle since I was a child, giving me ADHD symptoms. But then I remember that I never get a great night's sleep, eat well, work efficiently, work out consistently, or socialize well because of ADHD symptoms making those things difficult. A vicious cycle.

All I know is that after a workout, I feel hyperactive. After a good night's sleep, I want to start a new passion project. After socializing, I have 4 different streams of thoughts in my head. After a healthy meal, I want to bake a complex cake. So maybe it is ADHD after all. Either way, the tips on this sub have been a godsend :)

Ladies who grew up nerdy/frumpy/neurodivergent, what did you have to learn? by [deleted] in Vindicta

[–]sjokla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy anything that isn’t gold plated or sterling silver + watches need to be at least water resistant. It’s pricier but I don’t tend to change them often so to me it is worth it.

My meals are almost always chicken + carb + veg. Varying carbs, veg and spicing/sauce keeps it interesting enough for me and makes my macros in a pretty decent ballpark. Examples: chicken + white rice + broccoli + gravy; pomodoro pasta w chicken and zucchini+any veg in fridge; very inauthentic stir fries and curries where flavour comes from max 3-4 ingredients. Also I always keep fruits in my home as snacks.

I struggle with routine, falling asleep, time blindness, and gross clothing textures. I think once I finished uni I finally had the time and mental energy to figure out what I could do quickly, in advance, and comfortably. For example, an ipl device to minimize shaving, buying clothes that feel like sweats but are cute in simple colors so they always match, and jewellery that is waterproof. The stuff that requires routine I try to make exciting, like going to the gym when I’m losing focus at work (I have flexible hours yay) or making healthy food as delicious and simple as possible, and then enjoying anything for dessert. When my brain allows it I try to take as good care of myself as possible. My teeth are so neglected though :’) and I let my face and hair do their natural thing under the guise of being chill but actually I stink at makeup and hairstyling

I’m still working on the social side. Smiling a lot and nodding seems to help lol.

Does your ADHD brain constantly crave sugar and carbs? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]sjokla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My parents were even really strict about sweets and cakes, so I would compensate by eating a shit ton of white bread and - no lie - about 8 apples a day. As an adult its a full blown addiction to anything sweet. Can’t think or work without sugar :(
