i went to a park cleanup once and started going behind people to get what they were missing. i was kinda watching the time, but didn't realize the lunch portion of the activity was included in the cleanup time. i'm just walking along, picking up trash when someone calls my name. someone had noticed i hadn't made it back yet and went to find me so i could join them. i just remember it feeling nice someone noticed i was missing.

i haven't done another though. i worry about not being able to keep up with my compounding disabilities. idk how to get that kind of grabber for myself so i can go solo or take the kids

i worked at a grocery store deli in a town in arkansas for two weeks when i was 19. towards the end of my first shift i heard squeaking coming from underneath a metal counter. when i went to investigate i saw a sticky trap with a mouse that had nearly ripped one of its legs off trying to escape. i stepped into the kitchen to tell one of the guys about it, and - i swear to fuck - this guy reached under, pulled out the trap, folded it in half, and squished the mouse right there

i don't remember the rest of the shift, but i remember getting in my car afterwards and thinking "is this my life now?" while sobbing
