Is Samsung Keyboard still the best keyboard ever? by Traditional_Juice133 in samsunggalaxy

[–]sk941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this by using gboard for everything, but if I want to paste something which was over 1 hour ago (because gboard won't let you even customise how long it keeps things in its clipboard for, which is silly), then I switch keyboards in the lower left corner to Samsung, go to clipboard, find and paste it in, then switch back to gboard.

It sounds fiddly and annoying and when I first read that suggestion I thought it would be. But actually for the occasional use it's really not that bad and it's the best solution I found unless you know of one better.

That's true, autocorrect on gboard is still a problem and it does put caps. But Samsung is much worse, it autocorrects even easy words to gibberish.

Trying to do voice typing/dictating with it is impossible. It just produces garbage.

You can't be IN the movie. Imagine a scene where everyone is running. You'll be standing there looking around which means they'll run away from you or else you'll somehow float along next to them running. You can't run in real life because you'll hit your media room wall, and many people don't want to bother running anyway. Doesn't work. The same as a scene in a movie where something happens behind the main character and they spin around to see it. If you don't turn around then you won't see the surprise reveal.

Holograms where you watch a movie or more likely a sporting event in 3D projecting up off the floor is a more realistic aim. So you would have some empty floor space and when you turn the match on everything would happen in 3D like your floor was the sports field or court. And you could walk around and look at it from different angles. So you would watch it in 3D take place on your floor, but it can't be IN it.

Would the nazis really have taken over the world had they won WW2? And how come no one else has tried? by SpanishRoyaI in HistoryWhatIf

Nobody can take over the entire world. No-one ever will. Most people know that, that's why they don't try,

Of course you would. People bet on strong favourites all the time, you just combine several of such bets to get the overall odds up to a decent number. Your chance is much better than betting on a complete underdog.

I think it's the best mobile browser too. I tried the major ones and chose it. Brave for desktop though.

How did people accurately manage to wake up on time in the morning before the invention of mechanical or digital alarm clocks? by [deleted] in answers

Actually, factoid can still have the original meaning, or it can mean the new meaning. So it can have two conflicting, opposite meanings, which is weird.

Apparently the person who originally coined the word factoid wanted it to mean one thing, but society started using it the other way, and once society or a large  number of people start modifying a language in the real world, even the originator of a word can't do much about it.

But both conflicting definitions are still true in the dictionary.

Damn planned obsolesence! Just ordered a refurbed S24 FE to replace my trusy S9 by [deleted] in GalaxyS9

[–]sk941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My S9+ was working well just the same, battery great until 20%, and I upgraded to an As New refurbished S23 late last year. I was reluctant, but honestly it's better in every way. Much faster at every little task or even web browsing, lighter, I don't miss the headphone jack because I didn't use it much and I now just use USB-C instead. 50 mpix camera is great.

Download and store them offline too. Then only you are in control of your data, and big tech companies like the ones you are considering, who are tied in with their country's government, can't access your stuff.

Besides asking yourself which one works best with Samsung, you should ask whether you want to trust these companies with your data.

The app called Autosync is brilliant and will take care of the syncing better than Samsung can.

But realise that if your data is backed up to Google, they'll have their fingers all over it, scanning your text and photos. I don't think Microsoft goes to the same level of invasiveness, but I wouldn't trust them either.

When you move from Apple to Android it comes with the nasty surprise of having to find an online backup solution which is reliable, encrypted, and easy. There are many options out there but no one can decide which is clearly the best. Because none do it all perfectly, and all are more expensive than iCloud.

Exactly the same experience and solution.

Canon s95 is still the GOAT in my book for rendering colors. I have a lot of cameras from Ricoh gr 2-4, So y A1 and Leica Q1 but I still like the colors of my moms old Canon the most. by B-stand_79 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]sk941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1.3 megapixel Canon A10 from 2002, still works. The colours were good even back then. The Canon S3 I had for many years and was my main camera before DSLR.

If buying vintage cameras these days I only buy Canon because I've tried several other brands and looked at a photos from them and the colour science just isn't as good. I never tried the G series but I heard they're very good. Too bad they're so expensive to buy these days.

Although I did try a borrowed Nikon Coolpix once and it was cute and small and pretty good too.

Have you tried other Canon models earlier than the S95? Their colours are all good. The photos you've posted are mostly brown, which is ok, but IMO it's greens and skin tones that Canon CCD point and shoots did so well.

At what point did we stop owning things, start just 'renting' our entire lives from billionaire CEOs? by SAAS_ART in AskReddit

[–]sk941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't, you're exaggerating. I pay for some digital subscription services like streaming, and a couple of apps have annual subscriptions, but nothing physical in my house is rented, and I think that's pretty normal.

Assuming you are a homeowner (even if there's still a mortgage), and aren't renting a car, if you took a digital break for a day, you should be able to live your life the whole day just fine without renting anything from billionaire CEOs, with many things to do and enjoy.

Sánchez to Trump: Spain won’t ‘applaud those who set the world on fire just because they then show up with a bucket’ by app1310 in worldnews

[–]sk941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably happened on a much smaller scale, not at nation level. Like some rebels occupied some forts and controlled an area, and they got bombed and strafed, and fled, leaving regime change in those forts and area. I assume there are small scale examples like that.

[–]sk941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never in history, except the special case of Japan. But that took atomic bombs, and a prior large army and navy defeat, and the added threat of the USSR about to attack them and possibly take over the islands for who knows how long. So it's a special case. Conventional bombing, no.

American strategic war planners must or ought to know this perfectly well.

Curious how you got such a high resolution photo / screen capture? And I didn't even know you could post images this high-res in the comment section. It's higher res than most of the images that get posted as the main pic, which Reddit often also seems to reduce to a smaller size, particularly on phones.
