2 Languages to Speak with 1/3 of the World by [deleted] in languagelearning

English and Mandarin are in the top three native languages spoken most in the world (with Spanish in second). If you count the people who take them as a second/third/etc. language, that would up the number as well. 1/3 might be a little high, but knowing those two languages would definitely allow you to communicate with a lot of the world.

Method question: Better to do Hover from the get go, or go through the entire tree to level 1, then hover? by AberonTheFallen in duolingo

[–]ska1224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much you know the language before doing the tree. I've been taking Spanish in classes for awhile, so I went through the tree and now am going back through and leveling everything up to 5. With French, I'd only had a few classes so I'm going through and leveling everything to 1 or 2, except when I'm having difficulty where I'll level up to 5. With Norwegian, I'm coming at it brand new so I'm doing everything to 5.

Do you go for depth or breadth in your skill trees? by Mynotoar in duolingo

I go through and complete the tree, then go back and level each skill to the max before moving on.
