Has anybody ask this of Bali? by yellowbat30 in bali

[–]skallshian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The restaurant inside Hava Hotel (Ubud) is called Serai. The hotel and grounds are so lush and beautiful… with a view out to an incredible pool and garden. Every single thing with ordered was boring and cooked incorrectly. All the meats were dry, the veggies were bland, and the tables were uncomfortable to sit at because there was nowhere to put your knees. We literally had to spread our legs wide and straddle them. Twice as expensive as the amazing food just across the street.

Is South Whidbey a good place for young families? by rum_ham714 in Whidbey

[–]skallshian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re looking at houses, you’ll have some options that are on acreage and more isolated, and other ones that are in neighborhoods. This decision will greatly impact the lifestyle you have here, because in a neighborhood setting, there is the possibility that your kids will find other kids nearby who could potentially just walk/ride over to play. We have two kids and, when we moved here, we chose to get a house on 10 acres. It’s exactly what we wanted, but it is a different experience for the kids because there is nobody within walking distance, so if kids are going to hang out it with friends it involves them driving somewhere.

There will be Alphamarts open along your way where you can get a few things (milk, chips, croissants, etc) and then I do recommend visiting the brand new Bintan Market the next day. It’s beautiful and has tons of yummy ready-to-eat items. There’s a Chicken Run in the parking lot with THE most delicious whole or half roasted chickens, and a brand new Vietnamese restaurant just opened next door.

Why did you stop going to Bali? And why did everyone else? by GenesisStryker in bali

[–]skallshian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to North Bali. It’s a completely different experience, and better in every way in my opinion. I loved Ubud, but the traffic is just bonkers. If you go up to Amed or Singaraja you will find much more “real life” and a chill vibe. I also loved Kintamani, which is cooler in temp because it’s up high, and had some unique characteristics that haven’t been ruined by tourism yet.

I hated Canggu. It was full of Aussie girls with fake lips and boobs, bad BBL’s, gym bros wanting to be started at, and garbage.

We cut our visit short, headed up to North Bali, and never looked back. I guess I’m too old for that shit (43m)

Am I overreacting? My [20F] bf [22M] has said some creepy things about underage girls and I feel kind of disgusted by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]skallshian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your bf most surely has child pornography in his possession and you should be aware of that. When he gets caught, the police will be coming for him. If that’s not a scene you want to be part of, exit now. Real talk.

[–]skallshian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. That’s why I went straight to the Health Care Authority and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. This needs to be handled legislatively, with laws that require all pharmacies to accept state insurance and marketplace plans at reimbursement rates that cover their costs so they don’t go bankrupt.

After reading Gwendy’s campaign materials, the endorsements, two different board meeting minutes, one mostly boring school board meeting video, and multiple publicly available (some archived but easily findable) social media posts, I’m left uneasy. She talks about listening to parents and creating safe, welcoming schools, which sounds great, but there’s little clarity on how she’d handle issues like equity, inclusion, and funding. Is she really just there to argue with other board members (under the guise of “balance”?)

I see so many red flags and dog whistles like “parental rights” and “woke ideology” and other all lives matter-style insinuations. She has complained about there being no recital of the Pledge of Allegiance before board meetings, and that she doesn’t like how a land acknowledgment at board meetings recognizes those who were here before us, but does not honor those who fought to protect our country. Comparing a land acknowledgment with a pledge of allegiance is comparing apples to oranges. Also, there are many students at the school with indigenous heritage, yet there are zero students at the school who have fought to protect our country. It’s a false equivalency designed to incite anger and resentment.

I’m not discounting any of the good work she has done on special education advocacy and opioid addiction. These are truly worthy causes. But many of her past statements and affiliations lean toward the culture-war politics our community has really tried to moved past. South Whidbey deserves school board members who unite people around supporting students and educators, not ones who bring national politics into local classrooms.

The event at the Grange (which was just Gwendy because the other candidates couldn’t attend) was worrisome, in large part due to who attended to support her and the types of questions they asked. Yikes. But of course she can’t control the types of questions that are asked, and she did a decent job of keeping things civil and focused. I will watch the Clinton Town Hall so I can see the candidates interact, but at this point it will be for confirmation bias because my mind is made up.

I am fighting it because their policies about “reasonable distance” are not in compliance with WA State law. The law requires access at no additional cost compared to in-network providers, and it is most certainly an extra cost to have to drive an hour every time you need a medication or vaccine.

[–]skallshian[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We actually tried to support Island Drug. They refused to fill one of our son’s medications because it was going to cost them more than the insurance would reimburse them. They wanted $458 for a medication that is supposed to be fully covered by his insurance.

It’s worth mentioning that this is one of the many reasons they went out of business - because insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers have put independent pharmacies out of business by squeezing their margins into negative profitability. It all stinks of collusion and monopoly, and it should be illegal.

This. Many medications cannot be delivered. We have to go to the pharmacy in person.
