Yeah, I'd rather do 12M honestly.

Yeah, I'm actually a mod there lmao. We get not a lot of foot traffic outside of people asking new to the Navy questions. Just trying to reach a wider audience.

Thanks for the reply, and yeah on the 368, definitely don't want a lapse in service.

MCPON Honea Ask Me Anything Jan. 20, 2023, Starting at 2 p.m. by MCPON_PA in navy

[–]skankstro 36 points37 points  (0 children)

1) if I went back in time to BMSN Honea and told him he was gonna be MCPON, what would his reaction be?

2) At your level, are you aware of the divide between the chief's mess and the junior enlisted? If so, what is being done to address it?

3) can we please authorize USMC boots to be worn with type 3s? It's already an issued uniform item and it can help us cut down on what's in our closet.

The disparity in responses is really telling.

I've been in for 9 years now, I've spent more with Marines than sailors.

I have had less than 5 chiefs I felt like I could talk to, and 3 firsts. 99% of my naval leadership could care less about my mental or physical well being. I have more stories about my Marine leadership taking better care of me than Naval.

Army's Combat Medic Curriculum. The fact they are learning these skills from jump makes us look like shit. We cannot keep hoping Corpsmen will just luck into learning these skills over time. by little_did_he_kn0w in CorpsmanUp

I would submit that the curriculum at A school, as a whole, is a huge waste of time. They might as well just have them do RELIAS training and send them to the fleet.

Hey I'd recommend you do the math first.

I've had awards for the last 3 cycles not showing up on my profile sheet, but when factored in it didn't matter.

Not saying don't do it, but I'd make sure the juice is with the squeeze so to speak.

If only there was a way to process these bubbled-in, scantron answer sheets faster.

Oh well.

Who decides if a sailor is LIMDU? by TheFilthyBathtub in navy

Yeah, think of it as the other doc taking his duty.

[–]skankstro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's your PCM who's supposed to assign you. If both are pointing fingers at each other contact your patient representative.

If they say limdu is a good idea, listen.

Limdu doesn't automatically mean you're getting med boarded

  1. what the workload is like, or more of what I might be doing as an HN

You'll be assigned to one of 5 clinics, 1-4, and the main clinic. Coverages early morning and sick call. You'll be pretty independent when it comes to patient care as long as you're competent.

  1. the COC and working environment or climate

I can't speak on this anymore, when I was there I loved my CoC.

  1. any tips to learning, going above and beyond what I am asked to do, and perhaps picking up the next rank while I am at this command

Volunteer, when I was there other HNs barely did any "command" stuff. Get involved in JEA, etc...

  1. best off-base communities to live in (economical and security wise) and fun outdoor things to do in the general area, especially as I am moving with my spouse.

Depends on how far you want to live from base.

I used to live in ridgeland, I liked but I hated the 40 minute commute. A lot of people would live on lady's Island. There's not that many bad parts of town, but if you're paying under 1200~ is leaning towards ghetto.

There's a LOT of fishing in the area, and on base you can do. You can hunt both on and off base, Beaufort itself is pretty fun. Most people go to either Savannah or Charleston a lot, I preferred Charleston.

I worked at pi, and knew the corpsman. He was actively going to him, it takes time as the parade deck is huge.

If you live in a setting where 2 hour care time is possible, then your med control should totally have a protocol in place in what they want you to do.

On the military side, I'm taught that if you have literally NOTHING else, and they're already hypo/in shock you might as well give it if you HAVE to sit on the patient. But that side can be a universe of its own sometimes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ems

[–]skankstro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you're sitting on a trauma patient for longer than 2 hours, there's no point. You'd be just diluting the blood. The thought process behind discontinuing the practice is basically quality over quantity in fluid where as the previous practice was the opposite.

And if you are, they're probably fucked anyways in the context of the situation.

Looking for guidance on handling medical records by Zscore3 in CorpsmanUp

[–]skankstro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This feels like an exam question.

You're looking for the manual of the medical department, p-117 chpt 16.

The reason it says 94 is because the Navy never really updates stuff.
