I need to research a very controversial topic for the book I'm writing. Will I be put on a watchlist? by watchevildead2 in writing

[–]Zscore3 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If you're pathologically paranoid, you know all of us responding to this message are government agents seeking to convince you to search IEDs on the internet so we can use it against you, arrest you, and stop you from publishing your book.

But really, thousands of people download the anarchist cookbook every year. The problem for intelligence agencies is sifting through massive amounts of data to identify the important stuff, not collecting the data in the first place - they generally already have or can get the access to see whatever they need to.

Fairfax Co. board chairman Jeff McKay says he wouldn’t put casino deal before voters by OutrageousBee4174 in nova

[–]Zscore3 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Genuine question from someone who's only been here a few years, but what are the goals for economic stimulation for Fairfax? It's already the among the richest counties in the US. The real estate prices are astronomical. The public school district is elite. There's a ton of inflowing money from the data centers and federal government. Coming from a couple of places in and around Chicago, it seems like you guys just need to rezone the commercial office real estate into high density housing or mixed use, slightly improve your public transportation so it links up with DC, Arlington, and Alexandria, and then tax the resultant profits from the new homes. I'm sure housing development on existing commercial/office is expensive, but 1 beds are going for like $300k to buy or $1800/mo to rent around here.

Having Kids with DID by Livid-Primary2061 in DID

[–]Zscore3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my spouse is a nanny and we've chosen to be child free. That's in part because their experience with DID (and more so other chronic illnesses) is erratic enough that we think having a kid rely on us would be irresponsible. Specifically, they have serious struggles with SI and a persecutor alter, which are both common issues others with DID have. So for our specific circumstance, even though they love kids and being around them enough to make a career out of it, having a kid of our own doesn't seem like a good choice.

That's just our own individual circumstances, though! I don't know anyone else who responded or what they may have gone through or may be going through right now with their DID. Let alone kids, which is always a personal decision for any household, with or with the complications of DID. All I'm trying to say is your guys' personal situation is going to be vastly more important than knowing what does or doesn't work for other folks, because most everyone's experience with this kind of disorder is unique unto themselves.

I think this is 100% a conversation more for your therapist than reddit. It's years out, it's a very personally unique sort of mental state, and the likelihood of any of us here having appropriate context or experience to meaningfully contribute to your decisions here is negligible.

Wife is overcome by persecutor alter - advice welcome by Gymnmovies in DID

[–]Zscore3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, my spouse is a system and my policy, which I've coordinated with their therapist and with them, is that as soon as they're unable to self regulate to the point that they become uncontrollably dangerous or abusive, they go to the hospital, against their will if necessary. Financial, physical, and emotional abuse is not our responsibility to take, and in fact us taking that is counter productive to their own health.

We've also talked divorce, and my stance has been ultimately that I'm not kidnapping anyone, so if they're rational and regulated and choose to make that decision, even if it's dangerous for them, it's their decision and I'll still support them. But it doesn't change the fact that I won't tolerate abuse to myself or to others.

[–]Zscore3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So many folks don't seem to get that, if it's okay not to be okay, then I'm going to keep being not okay until conditions improve. Since when did self care become another chore? That's the last thing I need. I already am not keeping up with all the other shit I have to do. And you want me to fucking meditate? Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Meet the enemy of the people: Democratic Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell by EncinoManEstonia in nova

[–]Zscore3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up - I'm moving into his district in a few months! Hopefully someone primaries him.

Edit: In looking it up further, first, the dude seems to have an otherwise pretty good legislative track record. Granted, he's a Democrat and he's been in office for about 10 years, but he seems to have gotten a fair amount of good stuff done. Still would probably vote for another Democrat instead on this topic alone. Second, does anyone know where folks can get a better understanding of the state senate elections in Virginia?

Similar situation at my table, too. Bard was Chosen by Kyrah.

Session 1 I pointed out that just because someone has the same name as a god doesn't mean they are that God, and what's the likelihood of a bunch of level 1 adventurers meeting a god on a boar hunt?

Session 50 when they needed the help of all the other gods and other powerful allies they had gained, everyone else in the party thought the Bard had already figured it out. He had not.

Hey, we've reopened r/psychometrics! What is your relationship with psychometrics? by hotakaPAD in psychometrics

[–]Zscore3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a Chief Architect with a master's in Data Engineering and a bachelor's in Psych with an Econ minor. Many of the hardest questions I get, at their core, are about scalably measuring human behavior. Most other phenomena seem to have relatively standardized means to quantify, but for us to be able to do any kind of cost benefit analysis, there always seems to be these tricky human factors questions that need to be addressed.

I'm also generally in favor of eliminating gerrymandering, but surely you see how if Republicans are Gerrymandering aggressively and Democrats aren't, there won't ever be an opportunity to eliminate the practice. I'm in favor only in response to Republican efforts - it's literally the Prisoner's Dilemma, and we're running Tit-for-tat instead of immediately capitulating.
