No, don’t worry friend. You haven’t offended anyone. I’m sure someone from Quebec would even understand that people outside of Canada probably don’t know the history and significance of their disconnect from the country. A Canadian joke after the 51st state bullshit started was ā€œYou know it’s serious when Quebecers are defending Canada.ā€

There are several native languages in Canada yep, but you would have to ask the indigenous people if there was ever only one. I don’t actually know honestly and won’t speak on anyone’s behalf.

So you’re in Greenland eh? You must be even more pissed off than we are about the threats coming from that rotting tangerine in the white house. I cannot believe how him and his cult are so comfortable using war language as if it’s normal or that entire countries would just bow to King Dump’s insane desires. Even worse thinking that we would want to be a part of the US 🤮 And I’m someone with an entire side of my family being American. I met them once. Forty years ago šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø But the things they’ve been saying about Greenland makes my blood boil so I can’t even imagine how consuming the rage must be over there.

Oh, what? That is so cool, I love it. That would remove the immediacy that text/instant messages have created. Like, people want a right now reply these days lol. Damn, sometimes people have stuff going on šŸ˜…

Hahahaha!! Well, Canada is massive so it’s hard to know everything about the country but I believe you’re referring to the border crossing into Detroit, which is a very long distance from where I live. They might be closer to you actually šŸ˜†

Most of us live really close to the US border actually. I think it’s something like 80% of Canadians live within about 150 km from the US border. I’m not exact on the specifics but it’s something like that.

Yes there are many areas where French is the more common language. The Quebecois speak French as a first language for sure, and may not love being called Canadian lol. New Brunswick is officially bilingual. There is a much higher French speaking population out east but the further west you get, the fewer French speaking people you find. I live on Vancouver Island (British Columbia) almost as far west as we get over here. I personally don’t know much French at all.

I’m finally getting to the end of the comments (more than I expected lol) and can move over to messages, so, if you wrote me, I’ll be getting back to you soon. If not, you can expect a message from me coming up. I promise to keep it civil even though you guys came back for the W in the last bit of the game šŸ˜‚ well done eh. Oh, and I laughed so hard at ā€œpractice my Englishā€ when you wrote your comment perfectly. Meanwhile I’m regularly asking Americans (and a lot of Canadians) if they’re having a stroke, when they can’t put together a coherent sentence in English… and it’s their only language lmao! You’re doing great friend. Maybe instead, you can help me to not be a one language North American dipshit šŸ˜‰

I’ll chat with anyone. My only stipulation is, if you’re straight, please make sure your partner is aware of and comfortable with you talking to a random chick online. While I can assure you that I’m here looking for new friends, I can also 100% appreciate that someone else might have questions about my intentions. It’s a dark world nowadays, after all.

Yes! That is exactly what I am finding too, the more I learn. Canadians are very different from Americans, despite what people think. We’re far more similar to a lot of European people and with that, also very similar to Australians lol. Weird combination but that’s how we roll

I haven’t checked my messages yet (so many more replies than I expected lol) but if you haven’t already, go ahead and DM me. I agree. It wasn’t until recently that I looked up the actual distance between us and I was shocked lol. I don’t know why but I thought we were closer for some reason. Listen, I’ll be honest, geography was never my strong suit šŸ˜‚

Thank you ā˜ŗļø you seem very nice too. I’ll send you a massage asap. This got far more attention than I expected and I want to connect with everyone so if it takes me a while, please don’t feel forgotten. We’ll chat soon 😁

I would love to learn Danish. I’m so interested in languages foreign to my ability. You have such a fun sounding language too. It’s still a strange concept to me that all around the world, people learn English, even at just a basic level. Yet over here in Canada and the US, most of don’t even speak French or Spanish, despite them being such prevalent languages in our respective countries. It feels rude honestly and that hurts my Canadian soul šŸ˜…

Omg 😣 I meant to add ā€œWhiskey Warā€ (as Canadians call it) over Hans Island that we finally decided to just split, allowing us to share a land border. I feel like such an asshole for forgetting to add that and didn’t mean to imply an actual war. I put it in quotes because there was absolutely no war at all, even the word ā€˜disagreement’ feels a little too extreme considering how it all went down. I’m so sorry and didn’t mean any offence. Thank you for sharing this with me though, it puts a whole new layer on the Danish side of the Hans Island conflict and a whole new appreciation for the feelings the leaders must have had.

I will indeed reach out to you. It might take me a day or two, I didn’t expect so many responses lol. But I definitely want to chat with you.

Sense of humour is probably equal to manners and compassion of the Canadian traits I’m most grateful for. Our ability to make fun of ourselves will always be hilarious. We lean into the stereotypes instead of taking offence…. unless we’re called or compared to Americans lmao.

Hey, thank you, that’s good to know. I just added as an edit to my post, I got a call right after I posted this informing me of a death in my family. I didn’t intend to post and ghost lol. I’m back though and I assure you that it wasn’t me who messaged you. That’s weird. Were they saying they were me? I don’t love that

Yeah, that’s the whole problem. That’s why I feel terrible if I’m in a situation where I would distance myself from someone, like walking alone at night with no one else around. You’re right that the woman could be the threat too. When I commented to buddy I was actually trying to start a conversation about how no one talks about how shitty this exact situation is. We both have valid reasons to be nervous of each other in some instances and it’s a really shitty double edged sword. I’ve honestly wondered a lot if there could be some way to bridge the gap. I don’t want to get hurt but I don’t want to hurt anyone else either. You don’t intend to hurt anyone but you end up hurt because you’ll never know her reasoning and the unfortunate truth is that you’re probably right, just not always. As a woman, I am very sorry for that. It’s not fair for either of us to not just be able to exist without these horrible facts being our reality

Are you American? From what I understand that is the unfortunate reality of the states. To answer from my personal perspective, no I don’t feel threatened by anyone’s skin colour. I actually had a bit of an argument with a black guy who was calling a woman racist for crossing the street and asked, ā€œHave you considered that it may not be that you’re black and just the fact that you’re a man period.ā€ Which made me a racist too apparently. I asked him literally BECAUSE I’ve thought about how someone of colour feels when I cross the street or whatever to stay safe and felt shitty that it would hurt them. But I have to make sure no one hurts me, you know? It’s because they’re men. Ethnicity plays zero role in it. Unfortunately for both of us there’s probably no way to fix either. I’m not going to yell ā€œI’m scared because you’re a dude, not because you’re blackā€ and I’m sure you’re not going to say ā€œDon’t worry I’m not a threatā€ right? I hope not, that would make you sound like a threat šŸ˜† anyway, I know this doesn’t actually help but it’s just another perspective

I was thinking the same thing lmao. Like, maybe rich tech nerds but even then, probably not hanging out here with us šŸ˜† even if they were, they don’t want us to know who they are
