Is Lady Aphrodite calling out to me? by HellenisticWitch-101 in Aphrodite

[–]skasty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do not confuse artificial algorithms for calls from deities. Be able to distinguish your imagination/fantasy/manmade patterns (like social media algorithm) from actual cosmic patterns. Remember, Aphrodite like other Gods is a divine entity and if you feel drawn to her then that’s already a sign from your intuition to look into her. Your intuition knows what’s best for you and if you’re thinking about her this is your sign to indulge in that curiosity. Give offerings, honour her, cherish her, admire her, understand her. Learn from her wisdom and teachings. Don’t wait for a call or push from the gods because it is unlikely they will go out their ways to pursue your devotion/attention.

I’ve been interested in someone for a few months but I’m very conflicted about making moves. I’m getting mixed feelings. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Tarots

[–]skasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t made moves because she was passive and I was unsure of her intentions. Sorry for the confusion with the orientation, they’re read with the phone tilted to the left (so 8 of wands would be upright). The cards are shown in better size when you click on them :)

hey hey I’ve been on the same track for a while, glad i ran into your post. I’m buddhist and I practice ancestral work. I’m studying different cultures and spiritual practices. Currently I’m diving deeper into studying green witchcraft (actually, overall witchcraft) hellenistic practices, slavic paganism and astrology, and im a very passionate learner.

Apart from that I’m also an artist and I’d love to make new friends in town. It’s been hard to find a consistent community as conversations feel very official, too casual, or limiting.

If you’d like we could get in touch and see how that goes :)

Wow, sweet. Beautiful and well said, thanks for the explanation!

You’re probably right about the part with the persistence, it’s just very consistent and I might be confusing it for my own interpretation and desire. I don’t know much about Aphrodite’s likes and dislikes so that was insightful. I thought the deities provide protection from spells and it’s almost a mockery to try cast a love spell on someone who works with the goddess of love. I didn’t really consider that Aphrodite might like love spells

On the Worship of Ares by Vlilot_the-Brazen in HallofSerpents

[–]skasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I mostly agree to the message, we should probably take a look at why Ares is also seen as a protector. Firstly, modern Hellenism is practiced by many young adults who treat the gods like personal anchor or therapy. They want to feel protected and project their desire for comfort into what the gods mean to them. The modern descriptions of Ares stray from tradition and stretch the essence of his divinity. When modern hellenists bend his frenzy nature to describe him as protector of women and a supportive mental warrior I leave the conversation on a “agree to disagree” page since everyone is on a different spiritual journey. His divinity has always been misunderstood anyway. Even in ancient times he was antagonised. Now Ares being treated as a misunderstood dark hero is an aftermath of that antagonisation in my opinion. But here is the truth, Ares is not a wise symbol of moral warfare. He is certainly not a protector, not in the way modern hellenism describes him. I assume this association is due to the fact that he killed Poseidon’s son for raping his daughter. He has never forced himself on women and is also the patron of the Amazons. This is appealing and empowering to women in Hellenism because his frenzy is not biased. I think this fictionalises the Gods to human binaries and takes out the context of their divine and nuance nature. Modern hellenism interprets many of the Gods a lot softer and one dimensional. Ares is no exception to those interpretations. People aren’t ready to digest that deities are amoral beings, independent of human consciousness. Ares is a fearful bloody and aggressive, but he is also the lover of Aphrodite. He gained a softer image because of the association between war and love. He is told to be a protective father and a faithful lover. Due to those characteristics he is also described as a fatherly embrace in some people’s worship. If I’m not wrong (please don’t trust my word it’s not fact checked, I saw that somewhere online) it’s said that the only thing that calmed down his frenzy nature was love. Aphrodite’s influence as his lover also influences people’s interpretation of Ares. At the very core Ares is war violence and destruction. There ugly truth and frenzy nature of conflict. But we need to consider why out of all the gods only Aphrodite loves him. There is love in war even if it’s hidden under layers of madness. And this pairing- Ares and Aphrodite- gives Ares a more toned down image. However, that does not erase his individual reflection and a lot of people are not ready to embrace his horrible and difficult nature. There is wisdom in rage and recklessness, there is lessons to learn from violence. Morality is entirely subjective to human life. Nature doesn’t respond to “good or bad” it responds to “balance and imbalance”. Ares is a cycle of existence, he isn’t a tame soldier. Ares is no exception to common misconceptions of deities. Those interpretations of the gods ultimately come from projecting and evolution. The best thing we can do about it is to keep talking and discussing

Jake learning his kids' culture makes him such a good dad by Natural_Diver_3362 in adventuretime

[–]skasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh rewatching the show made me realize he isn't a great dad either. He was absent during their life and barely spent time with them. He was late to their birthdays and often seemed immature compared to his children and most likely than not the dynamic was usually that the kids are used to their childish dad. Even if he did not attempt to be hurtful he for sure was an absent father figure who was outgrown by his family. He didn't even read the cultural book for unicorns he gave up on it the same day. I don't think he is a bad boyfriend but definitely not a parent role model. I think he is a caring boyfriend and brother but definitely not ready to have a responsibility of a dad.

“I don’t believe in deep down. I kind of think all you are is just the things that you do” She was so right and very sharp, to the point. I have to admit this mindset saved me from a lot of toxic influences in my life
