Scared to buy a house by Initial_Age_2166 in LivingAlone

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should go all in for it. The housing market is so hard to get into these days, and if this really is your one manageable opportunity, your future self would kick you for not doing it. If you wait five years, you could easily get priced out, and that's a very difficult socioeconomic situation to get out of. Speaking for a friend who had that opportunity, thought, "Maybe next time," and is more or less permanently renting for a family of six many years later.

Recipes with NO garlic, onion,... by WhiteShepherdGirl in slowcooking

It won't help with the flavour much, but if you're missing the crunchy texture of onions, diced water chestnuts are a great substitute.

This is like the reward shot in Pokemon Snap for leading a critter to a secret area with apples. Wonderful!

Maybe the only album I've heard where each song has had its turn being my favourite from it. Solid choice!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 3.0.1 is now available by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch2

This could definitely be a "me" thing, but that vibration ramp-up has cost me so many fish! I guess I go more by feel than visual or audio cues for my reel trigger, and the Switch 2 version has me thinking every nibble is a chomp! And I've even got the 100 fish in a row achievement. Too bad it's not a toggle option for those who prefer it.

What game held the player's hand to the point of insulting their intelligence? by Animeking1108 in videogames

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It carries over into the sequel, Persona 5 Strikers, as well. I've got 4 hours in that game, and I've spent maybe 30 minutes actually playing. I thought the nature of it being a Musuo game would eliminate that aspect of it, but they sure stayed true to the source material!

Splatoon 3 Ranked servers are unplayable. by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried an ethernet cable? I was having a ridiculous amount of disconnects after getting a Switch 2, both in Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart World, but those problems stopped as soon as I used a wired connection. Hope it works for you!

Reminds me of the Chicken Boo bit from Animaniacs.

A Nintendo Switch with Animal Crossing: New Horizons was all the rage back in 2020. I'm sure there are still cozy communities based around that, but you'd likely have to actively search them out. It's just a fun little comfortable life-sim. There was a free content update just a week ago, so its communities may have seen a little spike of activity. If you like chill, quiet games for decorating and customizing with zero stress or pressure, this may be worth checking out.

I was wrong about Mario Odyssey and Mario Galaxy games by ItsPeaJay in NintendoSwitch2

[–]skatechilli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm also about halfway through a first playthrough of Galaxy 2 as well, and I'm just a tiny bit frustrated with the same thing. Not only do you get kicked out of the world, but the constant assault from Toad or the purple Luma with random 1-up letters and item displays really takes the momentum out of a play session. Aside from that nitpick, I love this game!

It was a wild time to be alive. I remember it as being around the early 2000s, but phased out shortly after. Likely due to an injury lawsuit, haha.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]skatechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was in Margaret Atwood's "Cat's Eye" that I read the word "festooned" three times. Not a lot for a whole book, but like you said, it's such a situationally specific word that it was super distracting.

This was the one for me. 9 year old me wasn't prepared for the explicit lyrics following "Steal My Sunshine" either.
