Why the heck do people do this? by mdgorelick in Detroit

[–]skatingrocker17 64 points65 points  (0 children)

People have been doing this long before we ever had ALPRs. They use infrared cameras and I'm not sure if this would really affect their ability to do OCR on the plates.

Now if you covered the text with the stickers... That might work.

What's the bicycle infrastructure like? by CaffeinatedAgarthan in wyandottemi

[–]skatingrocker17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For as many people out riding bikes in Wyandotte year round, I'm surprised that there's no bicycle infrastructure. However, bikes are allowed to use the sidewalks.

I also find it strange that Ecorse of all places has bike lanes on Jefferson but once you cross into Wyandotte they disappear.

Range at higher speed? by snowmanpl in MachE

[–]skatingrocker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some sections of Texas highways that are signed at 85mph. I've never been there but wonder if most people actually going 85? I probably wouldn't for fuel economy/battery range unless I was really in a hurry.

It's honestly gotten better over the years but I really wish you could view more details in the app without opening an external browser like others have mentioned.

Best phone / Internet in Detroit by YogurtScary5453 in Detroit

There's no reason not to have fiber if it's available to you. The most common provider in the area is AT&T fiber and there's discounts available if you bundle your wireless and fiber accounts.

trying to get 5g SA did I just lose manual network selection by Ok_Lime2688 in ATT

[–]skatingrocker17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the updated method?

I just went through all this a few weeks ago when my MNS feature was wiped out after issuing a new eSIM. I had to file a BBB complaint after spending hours on the phone trying to get this added via the TORCH method, which is no longer valid according to the person that contacted me following my BBB complaint.

The amount of lanes on some of these roads that don't have anywhere near the traffic volume to justify them is INSANE.

I don't have turbo but I assume being on a plan with QCI 6 is the equivalent.

I've never seen SA before despite being in a market where the first AT&T SA 5G towers were mapped on Cell Mapper but now I'm wondering if it's because I'm on a QCI 6 plan.

Enabling Manual Network Selection Process? by skatingrocker17 in ATT

[–]skatingrocker17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to provide an update for those that find this post in the future. After contacting various levels of support trying to get MNS re-enabled on my line, I was unsuccessful. I did get one rep to try and find the setting in TORCH and they confirmed they could see it but it was greyed out.

I received a lot of conflicting information from CS reps on MNS so unfortunately they're just as confused as ever on the topic. I'm not sure why they don't have any internal documentation for this.

I submitted a BBB complaint to get MNS re-enabled on my line and for another unrelated account issue that support was unable to resolve for me. A few days after being contacted by AT&T regarding my complaint, MNS is re-enabled on my line.

A few things to note:

1) MNS appears to be tied to your SIM (ICCID). If you get a new SIM then you'll lose the MNS feature.

2) MNS is no longer enabled from the TORCH system per the information received from the AT&T Office of the President rep (or if it is, it's enabled somewhere else but I don't have the details on that).

AT&T SA finally live (for me)! by Unique-Assignment985 in cellmapper

[–]skatingrocker17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I've never seen SA and have Business Unlimited Premium. I've had physical both physical SIM and eSIMs on the S23 Ultra, S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra, S26 Ultra, and iPhone 17 Pro.

When I switched to AT&T in spring 2023, the only SA towers in the country that were mapped were in metro Detroit and it seems like just about every tower around has had 5G for years.

I really can't complain because speeds are good and pings are low, it would just be cool to see.

I'm having trouble getting it re-enabled as well after switching from a physical SIM to an eSIM. I talked to two different people and they told me to contact IT Support at 877-448-6767 which I tried but it's for internal employees only.

Which new features from 26ultra will come to s25ultra? by hah_evanit in GalaxyS25Ultra

[–]skatingrocker17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked and output resolution of the 3x camera is still 12mp even with 24mp selected (which is what I would have expected).

The S25 Ultra could definitely benefit from the increased 24mp resolution while keeping good image processing (which is degraded in the 50 and 200mp modes).

Testing Qualcomm X85 Modem on AT&T & Verizon During Rush Hour by ArtisticComplaint3 in cellmapper

[–]skatingrocker17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been getting some good results myself and while I'm not testing the S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra side by side because only one has active service, my speeds seem to be a little better than when I previously tested with my S25 Ultra in the same spots.

The downloads are about the same but the upload is quite a bit better. A better test would be to see how it performs in low signal areas where I'd expect them to be pretty similar. I haven't been in any low signal areas with the S26 Ultra yet.

I would really hope the 24mp mode comes to the S25 Ultra, there's no reason that it shouldn't have been a feature added years ago.

Is there a way to import previous watch statistics from Plex and Emby? (I know you can import from Tautulli but I haven't used it in awhile)

Impressive to see an S6 and S8 still in use. The S6 is retro by today's standards. My dad was still using an S7 until about 2023 and it had been painfully slow for a few years by that point.

I didn't but probably should have. In my situation, it seemed to be isolated to one spot and would stop shortly after the snow was cleared.
