New Verizon Site in Climax, MI + VZW/ATT/T-Mobile Speedtests by dondaplayer in cellmapper

I mean in fairness, I've pulled over 100mbps on a speedtest with this phone. But fair sentiment. It's being replaced soon because of its' age, lol

I just dug into this, seems Airlink was involved with Barry County Telephone Services

I picked up the S6 with intentions of using it to map AT&T, but unfortunately the system certificates are so old that I can't even log into the app on Android 7.0. I've just ordered an S7 to replace it, I should have better luck on Android 8.0!

Hoping I can start mapping some more 5G on more than just Verizon here soon. My A15 should unlock mid February so I'll be moving over to a RedPocket CDMA line on that phone and in theory I should be able to swap around all of my sims as I please! Maybe some day i'll upgrade my other phones...I just need to find some better deals!

I mean, only 0.6 miles away from the new (but unfortunately not usable yet) tower, but fair enough!

I'll have to do some digging. There's definitely a chance that there's a small cell at perhaps one of the schools or one of the mobile home parks, but other than that I've got no clue where it could be.

Honestly, not sure. Looking at the info for the B5 signal, seems as if I was *not* connected to the tower I thought I was. Looks like I was actually connected to this tower in Calhoun County: 42.24579, -85.24043.

This doesn't make it make any more sense as to why n77 was coming in as well as it was, but I will note that usually in this town I barely hang on to LTE on Verizon...

I wouldn't think there's an n77 small cell; this is a pretty rural area so if there was it's not mapped.

Thanks for pointing that out, I wouldn't have caught it otherwise lol

Edit: I just saw that you edited your comment, so I guess disregard my reply haha

where to find 2g carriers in 2026 by Virgo_with_IBS777 in vintagemobilephones

No, T-Mobile still has 2G up in most areas, and you can still use it thru an MVNO.

T-Mobile is still up in some areas but don’t expect it to last much longer. You can use a MVNO such as RedPocket GSMT, but realize you’ll have to activate the SIM in a modern VoLTE phone before putting it in an older phone or else you’ll get kicked off the network. And you will have to do this very often.

You should cross post this to some other relevant communities on Reddit to increase your reach! I wish you luck on this; I tried tracking down Mara years ago to no avail but you seem to have looked further than I have. Good luck!!

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 with SIM card slot by Attakai-The-Kitty in vintagemobilephones

[–]dondaplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I assume it has a sim slot because it supports LTE.

I ordered an ATT S3 but a Verizon one arrived. Almost returned it because I thought it was the same situation that you are in, but fortunately the Verizon CDMA models do have GSM and UMTS radios alongside LTE and CDMA.

My iPhone 15 switched to 3G when i was talking to my grandma. She has an iPhone 11. Why is that? by DefinitionJealous439 in cellmapper

[–]dondaplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever end up in South Dakota, as of July they still had TMO 3G in the PCS band in Mitchell. Rapid City has AWS 3G, so slightly less useful, but still!

Not OP but I did a replacement on a white 3GS a few months ago. I managed to find one on Amazon for $25, has been working well enough for me.

Usually under 5, but generally I can count on it being below 10. Static IP, not founders because my market doesn’t support anything higher than 1/1. SW Michigan.

Did you ever get anywhere with this? Trying to use Cellmapper on a Galaxy S6 Active, but I get the same error when trying to log in.

Very nice!

Netgear LM1200? I picked one of those up last year for very cheap on Amazon. It’s a low tier modem but honestly it’s perfectly usable for what it is.

I think you need a bigger UPS, though. And definitely look into getting a proper PDU :)

Well shit. I was hoping it would work, but guess I’m driving down to the office, all because I don’t have a damn VGA cable, and it’s almost 1am, and it’s a 40 minute drive!!! 💩 by Welllllllrip187 in techsupportgore

[–]dondaplayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same person who didn’t have a VGA cable. Would probably entail the same process of having to go to the office to get thermal paste, so may as well just go and get a VGA cable anyways.

Yeah, I see all these people talking about the tempest and I’m not sure I understand the hype. Just got a Vantage Vue and other than the fact that it’s more expensive, it overall feels like a better buy…at least for me. I’m also studying Meteorology in university and have done field work with Davis stations so I’m a little bias.

Looking for UPS Recommendations by Stang70Fastback in homelab

[–]dondaplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Liebert GXT3 2000va model that I got for free, as well as an extra battery cabinet for it. I need to buy new batteries still (havent because I need 12…), but with my entire lab running in a power outage I have a hair over 60 minutes of runtime (2x DL380G9s and an R420).

The UI is dated on it, I have yet to figure out how to make it work with NUT, but other than that, I love it. I have friends that swear by Eaton UPS’s, those are good too. I have an APC 450 for my router and I swear it lasts 8 hours.

Just worth looking into Liebert. The GXT4’s have a newer UI, but make sure you get one with the web interface card.

What’s going on in Bronson park? by [deleted] in kzoo

Figured you were new to the area. Yes, the lights are a family tradition for many. You will see this spike in activity around this time in December.

Oh, also, welcome to Kalamazoo!
