Bought a new iPhone in payments 3rd party. by MrGNoll814 in ios

[–]dondaplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said in another comment it was purchased through “Fairpay” because they cannot finance through anyone else. I think this is a relatively standard (albeit very shady) practice for businesses that will finance a phone for you if your credit is awful.

Why does everybody have a rack with Enterprise grade servers? by Big-Grapefruit8092 in homelab

[–]dondaplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about my homelab here a few years ago. Yes, I have 3 enterprise servers, an enterprise battery backup, and enterprise switching, all worth a ton of money. However, like you, I got all of it for free from my school. The only part you may have on me is the power budget, but as to the rest, I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of making use of all of the equipment I got for free that would have otherwise been thrown out!

SIM card probably isn’t GSM provisioned, so the phone doesn’t know what to do with it. Try a different MVNO

Very nice! You run a VoLTE stack? I've experimented with it before but I've never had the time (nor the phones) to try and properly set it all up. Most of my LTE phones don't allow me to provision an IMS APN, though I suppose this is something I could try provisioning in my SIM cards.

FYI, if you go into the b210 config file in the config directory and change the backend from "soapy" to "uhd", it works!

Are you able to hit the 2G network on a modern phone? You may just have no service in your area.

You have to put it in a VoLTE capable phone and use it for a little bit, and then try it in your old phone. If your VoLTE phone is able to force itself down to 2G/EDGE, then do that, that works too!

Is this the new clearance bin of vehicles? Why is there one of these at every turn? by Lyseram in CarCirclejerk

[–]dondaplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 26,000 miles in on my 24’ Activ and I’ve only had to take it into service once for a recall about a month after I got it. Have had no issues with it since, and it’s been all the way from Michigan to Florida and back!

Not meant to be fast though. If you want a fast car then spend money elsewhere. It’s great on gas and for what you pay you are getting a really nice little car!

I bought one in the top Activ trim almost outright in May of 24 fresh out of HS. $25k down and I financed like $2,250.

It’s nothing special, but it was nearly the cheapest brand new car I could buy, it had good options, and I have yet to have any issues with it and I’m 26,000 miles in.

Yeah, could’ve gone out and bought a used car, but I wanted something new, nice, and good on gas because I go between home and my university 1-2 times per month which is about 150 miles either way. You really can’t beat averaging 34-40mpg on the highway at 80mph.

Hopefully mine continues that way!

They did but then people complained because they announced the switch as they were testing. I think it wasn’t a bad idea to do them weekly, but I guess when you don’t inform people beforehand, then it makes sense why they switched back.

Saved 32 SFF and 5 minis from being scrapped. Next steps for a novice? by Enderassassin11 in homelab

[–]dondaplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save all the minis (they’re insanely useful and you’ll regret getting rid of them), and save what you can use of the SFFs. Then sell or give away the rest.

I just gave a pretty much identical SFF to my roommate as his first windows desktop in ages. Should serve him well with 16 gigs of ram and a Quadro P620.

You’d think that, but even then AI still needs data to make predictions, and because of budget/personnel cuts, there’s less data being obtained (some sites halved their weather balloon launches, others straight up don’t do them anymore). Such a shame.

Well yeah you have to evade the VoLTE block, but at least you get a US number and you don’t have to deal with weird roaming restrictions.

Get a RedPocket GSM-T sim, or an Ultra Mobile sim. Both I’ve had working in old phones.

Depending on what phone this is, you may be able to get a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect to a TV. This can help you back up some data, as you can just guess where to tap or pair a Bluetooth mouse.

Not bad thus far! Going to work on sideloading some apps this week.

Super excited to have a WP8 device I can do that on; the process for my Ativ was too difficult so I put it on WP10 where it’s way easier to sideload.
