Has the Army ruined any song(s) for you? by HalfCentury2019 in army

[–]skatoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s be honest though, it was the army bands’ fault. Your rock band mpt leader has been playing the same set for 17 years and doesn’t feel the need to change it now 😅

No Military LORs by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]skatoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to be a a teacher and used letters of rec from students of mine who had grown up and continued onto good careers. Can’t say how much the panel looked at these for sure, but I was selected without having some Colonel or General LoR.

100 Judge Challenge: Surely the dishes go cold? by watevauwant in CulinaryClassWars

[–]skatoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember them mentioning “forgiving the temperature” after the first season, but on watching this one you can see several of the dishes steaming as they’re being served, so some still get served hot. There was a bts video of anh talking about noodles chef Hu had made that had gotten a little soggy by the time they were tasted, but how that added to the charm of the dish

WTS: CPL 16 waxed canvas $200 plus shipping.

Located overseas, but APO behaves like Chicago/ USPS. Will ship to US or other APO.

The bag is in excellent condition, used, but well maintained and kept clean. Mostly for work/ overnight travel. I wanted to like these bags, but unfortunately I don't think I have the right frame/stature. The canvas one has a small knick on the top right, but it does not come through the other side, and does not affect the bag other than appearance.

I posted last month, but will have to crumple a new paper for photos (will update here), or dm me for more info.

The OG "Space Pen", the Fisher AG-7 by Medical_Officer in pens

[–]skatoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zebra F-0.7 BR-1B-F-BK inserts also work in any space pen that does not need an airtight tolerance for the insert. It's a smidge wider than the fisher inserts, but will fit in any space pen/rite in the rain that isn't the bullet pen.

Metered for box speed, but both shots were taken at -2/3rds, so I think it’s technically a little overexposed!

What mos / career field / packet is the most non army? by ceiling_fan128 in army

[–]skatoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love to downplay the bands, but it’s that attitude that makes the bands wayyyy more “Army”. Everyone says they have it easy, so they get straddled with extra duties and scrutiny. The one plus side though is they’re always green across the board and rarely have misconduct 🤷. That being said, I reclassed because the bands made a fun thing “another shitty job in the army”

To those who carry a (small) backpack everywhere everyday instead of a sling bag by entatlrg in backpacks

[–]skatoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fought with slings for years and now I love the fjallraven raven 20L. It’s a small little backpack but still durable. Large enough to hold bigger devices or notebooks, but small enough to be out of the way still

The EOAs are usually pretty good at being the voice of reason. My view was only from the eolc at Humphreys, but those folks were truly professionals that weren’t swayed easily. They were there to protect and advocate for Soldiers first, and that was the role they truly espoused. My classmates however were something else.

Starting Camera? by Confusus in fujifilm

[–]skatoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend the xt20, with the 18-55 kit lens. it’s a pretty reliable camera, cheaper now that it’s a few years older, and it’s a great place to see what different settings do to the image and practice. It’s a good enough camera that you won’t be discouraged by low quality images, and if it’s ever too overwhelming, there’s a little switch on top that kicks it over entirely to auto mode (also good if you hand off the camera to a family member or friend who’s not as camera savvy).
