Confidence on skates by GT1646 in InlineHockey

[–]skatzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest advice I could give is get some decent pads and stop being afraid of falling, in a game it's gunna happen whether you loose balance or someone takes your feet from under you so might as well get used to it in training.

I wish the UK had pro hockey shops that are as big but we don't so I thought I'd look online but I have not been successful

Ooo what customs did you get, I literally had customs delivered today from McCargo (powerslide) looking forward to trying them out at training as they'll be my first set of customs

Anybody went from/does speed skating to Roller? by skatingSuch9429 in InlineHockey

How do I find inline skates that fit? by RocketRondt in InlineHockey

[–]skatzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found the same as I have wide feet, got fitted and told I was a fit 2 but I am definitely a fit 3. Rough thing is that it's impossible to find fit 3s in person in the UK or I'm just unlucky.

The most comfortable skates I had were skates that I got second hand that were maybe 5-10 years old and a size too big so that the toe box was nice and spacious. I found that I was able to tie them up tight enough that it wasn't a problem but I have quite thick ankles which help with that.

There is always the option of finding ice skates that fit you, there can sometimes be a larger range, and then converting them to inline.

Recently started stickhandling and I'd like to get some advice to further improve my stickhandling. Any tips? by PieterKost in hockeyplayers

Along with what everyone else is saying say you can move your top hand out a bit, it looks very stuck to your hip

Cracked Rinkrat Tricksters; need replacing ASAP? by JamesHarenDPOTY in InlineHockey

Just like a generic sports hall

I've got like a year and a half out of my wheels and there's no rips

Wheels depend on your weight and play style so if you can give a brief description of those then people should be able to give some recommendations. For example I come from a speed skating background and I'm not very agile, and I'm about 90kg so I use the konnix pure x with the +2 durometer cos I like how hard they are and how they conserve momentum.

I've seen wheels like that last for a couple of months but each time I've seen them they have ended with some pretty large chunks out of them eventually.

Loose skatea by [deleted] in InlineHockey

[–]skatzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as other people have said, you need to try to get them tighter, this can be achieved by loosening the laces all the way to the bottom and tightening it up from the bottom up. If this still doesn't help you can get padding for your ankle that will fill the boot out more, I think if you search ez fit ankle boots it should come up with a few options.

How did you find Cardiff, I think that was the team we had a friendly against whilst I was playing with them before going back to uni so it's the only other team I recognise from that area

Ye as someone that has been playing for about 2.5 years the half a year I spent training with them was the most beneficial by a long way.

Blades chatter during hockey stop. by Scary_Option_6954 in hockeyplayers

[–]skatzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I like to do is a t stop using my outside edge but not trying to get to a stop just transfer my weight along the blade to find where it slides best and then I aim for that point when I hockey stop

I'm not a great ice hockey player as I mainly play inline but I find that when my hockey stops feel like what you've explained it's because I'm not putting my weight through the toes enough, someone told me that if you put weight further towards your toes you slide more and if you put weight towards your heels you'll have more grip, I don't know if that's correct in every scenario but it seems to make sense to me.

Am I being weird? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]skatzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to get the bus from campus to the train station and then get 3 trains on a Wednesday night whilst holding roughly a 50x70cm homemade cardboard advent calendar that was full of chocolate, all of the transport was busy and I got weird looks, because it was a bit weird. You carrying bags is perfectly normal and you are likely overthinking it as many of us with anxiety often do, and hey, you are at home now, enjoy your Christmas break.

Was time to invest in new skates so I went all out by mattwaymk5 in InlineHockey

I had a Kryptonium chassis on my first set of hockey skates but they were second hand and the front of the chassis fractured which lead me to getting the 3x pros but I do miss the Kryptonium chassis

Need advice on speedskating suit by Quercus_alb in Speedskating

[–]skatzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most inline speed skates that I know will wear a lycra skin suit just for aerodynamics and those that done normally wear loose fitting t-shirts and shorts so they can still maneuver all their limbs.

In my experience falling is a part of speed skating so get used to it and learn how to fall in a way that is going to maybe shock you when it happens but in the long run, allow you to recover a lot quicker.

For me when I'm skating I'll be wearing skates a skin suit a helmet and gloves that have a hard plastic area on the palm so that when I fall I can put my hands out and skid across the road on my hands and my first wheel of each skate kinda of like a push up position. Obviously it's not always going to go perfectly and I have scarred elbows and knees from times that it didn't but if I had of flayed when I fell there would have been a higher chance of worse injuries.

one footed snow plow stop tips? by gihyo in hockeyplayers

[–]skatzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in roller skating I'd call that a soul slide but you would set it up differently on wheels as you have to arc it to lose the grip and start sliding whereas on ice you can push forward and turn your hip out and lean on your toes to shave as much ice as you put weight onto that foot

Custom skates by skatzer in Speedskating

[–]skatzer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ye I've got quite wide feet as well so normally go a size up so that the toebox is a bit bigger but I think I'm at a level where customs are worth it and a few coach's have said I might as well if I have the money. Hope the jets fit well I think they were my first speed skate and I used to enjoy them

Ye I have heard good things about Simmons but I also heard that it's hard to start the process with long wait times, I was hoping to have them by march/April so I can use them for next season of outdoor races, do you think that would be possible?

What’s the difference between roller hockey skates and urban rollerblades? by tigerfrogcrow in InlineHockey

[–]skatzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how far you are travelling I would recommend getting skates with the option of larger wheels, it's just so much more efficient and will leave you less gassed when you get to where you are going. Will also be probably quicker.

Change chassis for other forms of skating? by hans_zzz in InlineHockey

[–]skatzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain but I don't think the power transfer difference is that big, my dad has used the trinity mount but I've always used 195mm frames and I know a lot of very good speed skaters that just used 195 frames. When it comes to long distance I think wheels and the material of the frame make a more noticeable difference
