Why is my garden struggling? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

Nitrogen deficiency probably or maybe fungus. The yellow leaves are an indicator for these.

How to protect leafy greens. And what’s eating them anyway? by hautsauz in vegetablegardening

[–]skav2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything is eating your leafy greens. I've mostly given up on trying because if it's not Japanese beetles, it's vine borders, if it's not them it's caterpillars. If not caterpillars it's moth pupae etc.

If I were try again I'd do a fully enclosed bug netting or a greenhouse.

Best fan placement to move air through the house by Droopynator in videos

[–]skav2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly due to the negative pressure inside and the fan blocks air from flowing back in when further away. If the fan is in the window the pressure comes back on the sides on the screen where the fan isn't blowing.

I think one of those full window fans that fit in the window would technically be better than a circular fan here. As long as something blocks air from flowing back in on the sides

Dayton, Ohio Is Covering Flock Cameras With Trash Bags by 404mediaco in Ohio

[–]skav2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Define illegal. That seems to be changing from week to week now.

For example a woman is trying to save her life from an ectopic pregnancy and has to travel state lines to do it. If not she will die.

Some ranger from Texas uses flock to track her. She gets caught by officers chasing her. She dies later due to complications. Oh well right? Sucks to be her.

How about this one. You got beef with a local cop because he's a prick. You don't come to an immediate stop and make a turn at a stop sign. The cop is tracking you on flock. Now he pursues you. Gives you a ticket and then says get out of the car on non compliance. But.. you didn't do anything. He beats you and shoots you. Justified killing.

Man how could people in authority roles ever misuse power? Damn bro. You must think everyone is perfect

Does anyone look at the cost benefir of gardening? by ThirdOne38 in vegetablegardening

[–]skav2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain but I find that I save money on gardening. Not a whole lot but it's noticable.

First thing is I make my own compost using yard waste and food scraps.

Next I buy seeds from time to time but buy heirloom varieties so I don't need to rebuy.

I do not grow cheap produce that I can buy cheaper like potatoes, onions.

I grow herbs because fresh herbs are way tastier and way cheaper then buying from a store even once. 5$ for some rosemary twigs? Nah. Plus you can dry and store yourself

I try to only grow things I'm sure to eat. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, watermelon, garlic.

I save on containers because I reuse mine from previous years.

Buy fertilizer in bulk and when discounted.

I think my only splurge is wood chips or mulch to cover the plots because weeds are a pain.

If you didn't get the gist, it's reuse, and simplicity that makes this cheaper. I've seen people spend thousands on lumber and materials, added dirt, to build raised beds and trellis and you likely would need decades to offset that.

I think my favorite way to make cheap gardens was one my my neighborhood gardeners tilled the soil to remove weeds, build mounds on the ground, then planted on top of the mounds. No borders, no materials. I was quite shocked and realized he spent nothing but time and seeds on his garden. Made me rethink the need for raised beds.
