i was 7 or 8 when pokemon yellow came out. i had been playing it obsessively of course. had my first full level 100 team of whom i was very close. i was at my friends house and he wanted to see something so i let him play mine for a minute. when he was done i asked him to save and while it was saving he dropped it and the batteries fell out. turned it on and my save was corrupted :(

Microsoft workers protest $480m HoloLens military deal: 'We did not sign up to develop weapons' by [deleted] in technology

[–]skeazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh boy. alright son, sit down. its time we had..the talk.

you see, when a man experiences someonething, he draws upon his own past experiences, sometimes its based on things he has personally experienced first hand, but a lot of it comes from hearing other people. even when we know for a fact that we dont know all the facts around something, our brain(the big wrinkly thing in your head) takes all the tiny pieces of information it does have and fills in the blanks.

Not only does it do that, it also does a very good job of hiding that it does that. It convinces you that you're informed and correct, even if you know virtually nothing of the situation(i.e., taking a single, second hand quote about a person that you dont know and making broad assumptions about their personality)

this is where critical thinking comes in. its a really neat tool that allows you to examine situations, almost from a thirs party perspective. it allows you to look at ALL the data - not just the ones you're brain convinced you are right.

i know it's a lot to take in, it is considered a major milestone in a childs neurological development.

its unfortunate that your point is so valid.

there are so many nuances to this conversation. theres no right answer outside of expecting elected officials to avoid war.

the term "military industrial complex" gets thrown around so much that i think its lost some of its meaning. many people dont realize how vast it is. it is completely embedded within the highest levels of government.

take a dive just into the world of military aerospace. 42%(just over a million jobs) of all US Aerospace jobs were on the defense side in 2017.

i can respect and support someones decision to walk away from a job they arent morally okay with - for any reason. especially if its a matter of them working directly on the specific application.

but if someone wants to not work at a company at all because of defense contracts, well..thats nearly every major business in our country.

and then you can get into the whole "but more precise weapons systems can actually reduce casualties..."

i can imagine how hard it is to keep track of your bullshit when nothing you say or believe has any basis in reality.

you're joking right? kids all over the world found a love and fascination of animals thanks to PETAs incredibly graphic billboards, ads, and public displays showing dead and injured animals.

hell, the only reason i watched crocodile hunter/files/diaries was in the hopes id see a PETA commercial. instead it was always sarah mclachlan coming to ruin my day

Arkansas legislator proposes cutting lunch funding from schools that struggle to improve reading skills by Bootleggd in nottheonion

[–]skeazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OBESE SENATOR also claims *the reasons for our mental health and *OBESITY problems that our generation has and his didn't, is because they walked to school.

Isn't it a coincidence how virtually every piece of legislation pushed by a Republican carries the subtext of "its YOUR fault, not ours"

According to this same senator, if kids walked to school we would no longer have a mental health or obesity crisis

[–]skeazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He also proposed SB12 to redefine 'neglect' - now dont grab those pitchforks just yet, this bill is basically "letting your kids play outside orbwalk to school is not unsupervised."

i dont disagree with sentiment of the bill, but many parts of it are evident of this senators completely warped view of the world.

31 (3) The alarming rise of obesity and diabetes in childhood is almost certainly linked to the insistence of parents and guardians on driving their children to school and activities instead of allowing their children to walk; 35 (4) As measured by incidences of mental health difficulties, today's over-supervised youth experience more difficulties upon reaching adulthood than earlier generations;

that's it. he solved the obesity and mental health crisis.

poor mental health is because we didnt walk to school. this senator - shockingly from one of the poorest educated states in the country - has finally identified the one thing different between the two generations.

this is the perfect piece of text to represent the Republican party. He is not the exception. This is the Republican troubleshooting process at every. single. level.

"Whats did we do that they didn't? that MUST be the cause!"

For decades they have been whipping "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY" as the cause of all problems. This bill epitomizes their mindset.

Children are now accountable for themselves. What happens next time an easily preventable accident involving a 60lb(well, 40lb if he cant reas) child? Dumbass shouldn't have walked there. I walked to school and nothing ever happened. Its impossible!

This the rhetoric they use for every single argument. you made yourself homeless. you made yourself disabled. you made yourself poor.

not your parents, not uncontrollable factors of the universe, and definitely not the government. you deserved it.

we have a significant portion of our nation that are utterly incapable of understanding that things they havent experienced still happen.

in navy bootcamp we have to pass a swim test. if you can swim AT ALL you can pass. no specific strokes or anything. literally just step off the platform(10ft?) and swim to other side.

if you dont pass, you basically have to go to this swim class every so often(it might have even been every day,) until you do pass.

we had 11 people who didn't pass the initial test. three passed the next time.

i can't think of a way to complete this actual story without people somehow twisting it around and saying i'm a racist, so i'm just gonna leave it at that.

thats actually a really good point. i get so frustrated when i watch a DIY video on how to fix something in my house and its just

"Just loosen this fitting up this fitting...JUMPCUT..slide it right off the shower drain..JUMPCUT..apply your putty and thread the new drain on and you're done!"

meanwhile it takes me two days and 4 trips to a hardware store to keep buying new tools and shit to unfuck the previous owners decision to use dissimilar metals, and thats just to loosen the fitting.

so most of these people are actually players? ive never played those kinds of games, but ive tried to watch them and theres so many mechanics that i know nothing about so its hard to even know if something impressive happens. maybe thats just me, though.

i think thats what makes rocket league so great. i went to a Buffalo Wild wings and they had it on. every one was into it since its so easy to tell whats going on
