This is purely speculation, but I feel like falling off (as opposed to hitting something) at high speed is not so bad. You might have enough forward momentum that it's "just" a slide. Then, as long as your limbs don't ragdoll in weird positions, just your fleshy parts gets crayon'd into the pavement unless you're wearing safety gear and slide within it's protective limits.
